  1. I have to be in the right frame of mind to read them.  I kinda figure that the dumber the person, the stronger their opinions.  So I read the comments, or newspaper letters to the editor, or listen to call in shows with the specific goal of finding some weapons grade stupidity.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I'm rarely disappointed.

  2. Looks great.  Still wondering if it comes out before my as yet unborn son is old enough to play it, though.

Hopefully it'll actually have all that shit for the 360, not just the new consoles.  Saw a few new vehicles in there (Hind helicopter, Harrier, some sort of armored car), plus the motherfucking aircraft carrier.  That all better make it into freemode.

  3. That was my sentence too.  It's two real world days, regardless of whether you are online or not.  I think it does extend a bit for each car you blow up while you're inside though.

I think that's where all the jets have gone.  I've barely seen any in freemode for a long time now, but the penitentiary was full of the damn things.

You're braver than me.  I never tried accepting any of the invites when I was in there.

  4. Damnit, it seems like the last update must've ramped this shit up.  Sure am glad they found a way to make the game worse.  I still think it's a combination - recent rep and blowed up cars.

How long before they let you out of the hole?

Be sure to watch out for the Sisters.  I suggest just hanging out in your apartment and watching the madness unfold around you.

  5. Yeah, if I keep going the way I am, I'm gonna have to start standing on a street corner with a will work for sticky bombs sign.  I've gone from 13 million down to 7 just by spending my time in freemode.

I'm such a prolific sticky bomb user that I'll pretty much go through 3 or 4 stockpiles every time I'm on.

  6. That was a much better result last night.  My biggest concern was that I would get too many bad sport points from the personal vehicles I took out.  Stout had the sniper and the sticky bombs working like a charm.

I have no idea what that last guy was thinking with the 1 on 1 request.  It went really, really poorly for him.  His buddy got back into the server and made a run-in in the middle of it, only to get chased back out in about 30 seconds.

Stout - I could barely hear anything you said all night.  I'd hear nothing, then it would cut in in the middle of you saying something for a while.  Still don't know whose headset was messed up.  It was kinda the same vs. the wildboys.  Dunno if you heard me say I was taking off after we ran the last guy off at all.

  7. Stout and I took an assbeating at the end there last night.  We were just demolishing people up till that point.  It wasn't so much how can I kill this guy, but how do I want to do it.  The three passive guys got the worst of it.  I sniped two of them out of helicopters back to back, then shot the third guy out of his chopper with a pistol.

But good gravy, did it take a turn for the worse when the two wildboys rolled into town.  I finished down about 20-10 to one of em, and the other had me about 15-13.  It was actually worse than that though, because I started the session up like 4-1 and 10-2 on em.  They were damn good.  They pretty good Mary Lous and snipers, but they were deadly in those damn cars, and I don't think I've ever seen anybody better with a grenade launcher than one of em was.  Actually, I've never seen anybody that good at that backup Zentorno shit either.

They could be killed, because we did it a number of times, as did other guys that got involved in the scrum.  There seemed to be something weird going on, though.  One of em was trying to sticky bomb me when I pulled a Mary Lou and got in close on him.  He still had a sticky bomb in his hand when I started shooting him in the face from close range with my combat SG.  He somehow managed to swap to a shotgun and kill me before I could finish him off.  It almost seemed like we were lagging, and they were about two steps ahead of us.  The only obviously cheap thing they were doing was that taking the easy way out shit.  That never fails to annoy me way more than it should.

  8. The car that we kept rolling down the mountain in was somebody's personal Sandking.

The Toyota stuff mainly comes from a seemingly endless running battle we had with the cops while melraz was driving one of those damn things.  By the time it finally gave up the ghost there wasn't much left that you'd recognize as a car.  It had 4 flat tires, everything that could come off had, and it had been squashed down to about the size of a quad bike.

It's odd that we're starting to see more people out on work release now.  Hope the Sisters aren't gonna get parole anytime soon.  Makes me wonder if they've started to ramp up the number of people they put in the hole.

  9. I stick with my Blista Compact.  Hell, I use it a lot if I've got a car out in freemode.  It handles fairly well and is a small target for somebody trying to sticky bomb me.

I think I may have been run over with one of those damned Pantos at one time or another.  I know I've certainly blown up my share of em.

  10. That wasn't even the only personal vehicle I blew up accidentally.  I was trying to get the guy with a sticky bomb, and forgot I still had one on his car.  Same thing happened earlier after I shotgunned two guys off motorcycles then tried to get one on his respawn after he hid behind a wall.

  11. The big 12 isn't really full of huge stadiums anyway, outside of Texas, and to a lesser extent, OU.  Baylor's new stadium actually reduced their capacity, and the old one wasn't exactly huge.

If there is any expansion, I'd say Dewar's list is a pretty good bet.  I might add Central Florida as well.

The really interesting thing to me would be how they would split the divisions.  I'm guessing they'd have to do something where they put OU and Texas in separate divisions, but keep them as a rivalry game.  Like how the SEC does it with real, or invented, rivalries that get played every year.  That game is the league's only real money game, so they've got to keep it no matter what.

  12. Power steerin'? I didn't have no power steerin' when I walked 20 miles one-way to school every morning barefoot in the driving snow! You kids think you have it bad!

That sucks. Might it be the dealer constantly messing up the install? Any other dealers you can take it to?

In our old age we need those kinda creature comforts man.

The warranty is only good for this dealer, so I gotta go back to them unless I want to pay for this myself.  I assume they're fucking something up.  My guess is that there's another issue with the steering system that they haven't found yet, and that's causing the problem.  Other possibility is that they bought a bunch of these parts at the same time, and the whole lot is screwed.

  13. Glad we got to put the band back together last night, even if it was only for a little while before technical shit started rearing its ugly head.  Had a lot of good laughs.  Plus, the return of ba-ding!

Melraz would've loved that last room we got stuck in.  It was a sniper's paradise for most of the time.  People that had no business trying to snipe kept giving it a go, and paying the price.  One guy in particular got killed from the westside Ammunation, all the way up into the hills north of town, then back down to Chinatown.  Poor guy had no situational awareness.  About halfway through, I was sitting up on a hill waiting for him to respawn after Stout sniped him out of a car.  I saw him start running toward a parked car, and I was thinking to myself "surely he's not gonna try that".  Of course, he did, and he paid the price.  I had the shot lined up on the back window of the car for at least 10 seconds before he got in the car.  Poor bastard.

Blew up more personal vehicles than I probably should've, but I really couldn't help it.  Suckers kept trying that backwards Zentorno/Entity shit, and they needed to be taught a lesson.  Still sad I didn't manage to allah akbar that one guy while I was driving his purple Superbird, though.

One of my old crew from Cell Block 10 was in that one room.  I wanted to tell him to take that damn dunce cap off.  Us ex cons gotta keep our heads down and try to blend in.  I might have to bring my female character out of mothballs to see if she's still wearing that thing.

It was one of those nights where somebody new would kill me and the game would tell me I was up 12-2 on them.  That type of shit just kept happening over and over.  chevygirl got me after I had killed her one time, and the game told me I was up about 45 to 5 on her.  How the hell do I not remember that?

Ran into a bunch of tanks for some reason, but none of them were much of a danger.  Got one guy to accidentally blow up his own tank once, then drove a sticky bomb laden car under him after he went and got another.  No jets to speak of.  I only remember one, and that guy crashed into a palm tree right in front of us.

Got a good laugh at the expense of one dumbass that thought they were in passive and walked up to me doing the air thrusting shit.  Shotgun to the face sorted that out for them.

And, yeah we've always been shitty at team tactics.  We drove JT crazy.  He'd be trying to form us into a cohesive fighting unit, and we'd all get distracted by something shiny and chase halfway across the map after it.  I'm probably the worst at it.  I see 8 dots in a group, and I can't help it.  I gotta go say hello in the traditional nite shift way.

  14. Minor shit really, but my car, or really the dealer that's working on it, is driving me nuts.  I had the power steering pump replaced in May.  The car has 200+K miles on it, shit happens.  Everything was fine till it started trying to die and lost all power 3 weeks ago.  It turned out to be an oxygen sensor that needed replacing.  Again, not a big surprise.  They also said we needed new tires.  I already knew that, so we got them to price match what we wanted.  Finally they said the power steering pump had failed.  They wanted to charge us till we pointed out that the repair was still under warranty.  Got the car back after a few days, and thought everything was fine.

That night I happened to look at the tires and noticed that they weren't what we paid for.  We just hadn't paid attention till then.  Got set to take it back the next morning and heard a fairly nasty noise coming from the engine compartment.  After they'd had a look at the car again, they figured out that they'd put our tires on the wrong car, so they had to order a new set.  Also, they found out that the new power steering pump had failed, so they had to replace it yet again.  This time they had the car for more than a week, partly because they finished it about the time we left town for vacation.  Got it back on Friday, made sure it had the right tires, and everything appeared fine.

Today I had to do a 200 mile round trip for an out of town doctor appointment.  Just as I pulled into the parking lot I started to hear the same sound coming from the power steering pump again.  Fortunately, the power steering didn't fail on the way home, though the fluid level did start to get frighteningly low.  Dropped it off again at the dealer for what I assume will be be my 5th power steering pump since may.  Really don't have time for this shit.

  15. UPS & Fedex seem to work fine here.  We've received a ton of deliveries for baby stuff with no issues.  We also had a couple medication deliveries for my wife that were worth more than either of our cars, and didn't have any problems there.

USPS, on the other hand, is a disaster for us, and has been since we moved here 16 years ago.  For several years we would only get about 80% of our mail.  The rest would go to various neighbors. And, of course, we would get our neighbors' mail in our box.  We'd all just deliver it to the right person ourselves.  Eventually enough people complained and they mostly sorted it out.

It's still a serious mess though.  We came home one day last year to find a big, plastic grocery bag hanging off our door.  It contained about 50 pieces of our mail that was mostly 3-4 months old.  It also contained mail for 5-6 other people.  No clue how it got there.  We spent about an hour returning all the mail throughout our neighborhood, since it came from a bunch of different streets.

Even now, we're waiting on two critical pieces of mail from the company that my wife and I both work for.  We know they were mailed on November 19th, but still haven't received anything.  I'm not holding my breath on them delivered anytime soon, if at all.

  16.

Back when the Big 12 added WVU and TCU, they should've added Louisville and either Memphis or Cincinnati. It would've made sense at the time.

If the Big 12 were to expand (and again I don't think it will, but I don't know much) look for them to expand into Louisiana and/or Florida. Would likely add 4 teams, so someone like Cincy or Memphis as a closer team for WVU, maybe BYU (the Sunday thing is a big deal for baseball, which is huge in the Big 12), and teams like USF, UCF, and/or someone like Louisiana-Lafayette.

My personal dream is for UT and OU (and probably Texas Tech and Okie State cos of politics) to go to the PAC 12.

At the risk of echoing shit that's been posted on a thousand shitty football message boards, I don't think Texas and OU are going anywhere for a long, long time.  The rest of the Big 12 schools know those two are their meal tickets, and they won't let them go anywhere without a serious fight.  Baylor won't want to be left out of the party, and they still have outsized political pull, plus Ken fucking Starr as university president.  Even if Texas and OU found a way out, I don't figure the PAC 12 would want part of OSU or Tech.

I'm hoping this leads to more hilarious Chip Brown claims that ND, FSU, Clemson, etc are gonna join the Big 12 any day now.  It's been too long since we've had a new one of those.

In order to keep the Big 12 together as is, all of the teams signed a Grant of Rights which basically locks everyone in until 2025 or so. If a school leaves, they have to fork over all of the TV revenue they earn until the end of the GoR. It's allegedly ironclad, but I suspect that if UT and/or OU ever seriously wanted out they would find a way.

Baylor's pull last time around was all about Bob Bullock (and to a lesser extent Ann Richards). Tech will be included before Baylor, because of a desire for creating more Tier 1 public universities in the state of Texas.

At this point, the Big 12 is on life support, with UT and OU as the only two athletics prizes. All of the other conferences are aware of this, and know if they want one or both of those schools, they're going to have to accept little brother.

For the record, it wasn't just Chip Brown who was hearing that FSU and Clemson might be up for grabs after Maryland bolted. The ACC took care of business, unlike The Big 12.

The part about Texas being able to get out if they really wanted to gets bandied about all the time.  It hasn't happened though.  Seems (at least to me) like either the the contract really is ironclad or Texas is happy enough where they are to stay.  Either way, they don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Baylor may not have the top level folks they had at the end of the SWC period, but they've still got more pull than their size would seem to dictate.  Plus, they've gotta pay off their new stadium, and their tiny home attendance ain't gonna do that by itself.  They're not the only school that would be left out either.

I know it wasn't just Brown that missed on the conference expansion.  It's just that he's been so delightfully wrong so many times (A&M staying in the Big 12, Saban coming to Austin, etc) that he's an even easier target than Ketchum.

  17. Yeah Houston is pretty much UT/A&M.  LSU is probably 3rd above UH & Rice.

Rice is at least better than KU and ISU, and could compete, if not win, vs most of the rest of the Big 12 at its current state..  They might be able to win 6-8 games in a good year with the right non-conference schedule.

  18. Back when the Big 12 added WVU and TCU, they should've added Louisville and either Memphis or Cincinnati. It would've made sense at the time.
