  1. that seems so weird that they was the main event for that ppv.  I'm sure I watched it, but I can't remember at this point.  That was one thing as a teenager I always thought was weird... the cards were set up oddly, in my mind, and the match ups sometimes didn't seem appealing, but ended up great.

Wasn't that the PPV though where it was right after word got out that Tazz gave notice that he was heading to WWE? I know the World Title match was supposed to be Tazz defending against Masato Tanaka, and they did the angle where Mike Awesome crashes the party to make it a "THREE WAY FUCKING DANCE!" and Tazz gets eliminated two minutes into the match. Maybe they were worried that wouldn't go over well in the main event?

  2.

The Arena is not possible as The Arena has hosted its last wrestling event some years ago. The Asylum was torn down YEARS ago, so that is not an option. Vegas is a good location and I am sure Viacom can work something out for TNA as Bellator holds a lot of shows there. A very interesting time.

Except that it was renovated and hosted an Extreme Rising show last weekend.

And wasn't the Asylum the Nashville Fairgrounds, which hosted an ROH show with AJ Styles tonight?

Or did Nashville Fairgounds build a new arena?

  3.

I can seriously just watch that on loop. The sell is perfect (probably because it's legit!).

They forgot to gimmick the guitar and Jake ended up having neck problems due to it.

I always thought the story was that they had a gimmicked guitar, but some agent (Strongbow? Garea? Goulet?) accidentally handed HTM the wrong one, and he didn't realize it until he had started the swing?

  4. Haha.  Goldberg still outdraws HHH.  I expected the FOley DVD to do better, but then again I also expected to watch it at some point and never did.  In all honesty, there have been like 40 HHH DVDs.  Nobody likes the guy that much.

I'm more curious what the sales figures for the Mid-South set ended up being. That seems like possibly the most "niche" DVD set they've ever put out. I remember reading how the AWA set didn't do that well, and I'm not sure if still is, but at some point the Superstar Billy Graham was supposedly the lowest-selling official WWE DVD release with under 10,000 units sold.

Very cool still to see the WCW-related sets doing so well comparatively. Keeping hope alive for "The Best of WCW Saturday Night"!

  5. Disclaimer: I listen to a thousand bands that sound just like Discharge and also play in one. So I am kind of a hypocrite in that respect.

I am the same way. I'll be the first to shout about how happy I'll be to never see the phrases "melodic death metal" and "tech-death" ever again, but I'm a sucker for any band description that has the word "doom" in it, even if there really isn't far to push those boundaries.

  6. If WWE Network's flagship show ends up being a reality show/Midnight Madness knockoff, I'll buy separate subscriptions for every single wired device I have out of the goodwill that would earn from me.

Double purchases if one of the teams is just Mark Henry by himself driving the M-E-A-T M-A-C-H-I-N-E

  7. For what it's worth -- that Lita/AJ cartoon has been around for about a month now. I remember seeing it float around Tumblr in early November, so it wasn't something necessarily drawn by anybody backstage in the WWE. It seems that certain people online here and other places are thinking that's the case...

Not shocked by that, as it is an obvious joke.

  8.

The Wilpon family, who own the New York Mets, have also always been interested in pro wrestling. In 2011, they had plans to launch their own promotion but that never came to be.

Seriously doubting this report to be accurate, but if it is, we may be one step closer to that "Davey Richards vs. Davey Richards Inside a 15-Foot High Steel Davey Richards" main event after all.

  9. Here's a press release I didn't expect to receive in my inbox:

ULTRAMANTIS BLACK Signs to Relapse Records

Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the signing of hardcore aural terrorists UltraMantis Black!  Hailing from parts unknown, UltraMantis Black is the musical manifestation of underground professional wrestling legend UltraMantis Black himself, backed by a cadre of anonymous musicians/warriors who may or may not feature ex- and current members of Pissed Jeans and Pilgrim Fetus.  Simply put, UMB is the greatest band you've never heard. UltraMantis Black has waged many battles. As a professional wrestler, he has fought a never ending array of opponents worldwide, hell-bent on usurping the Great & Devious insectoid leader of The Order of the Neo Solar Temple. In his quest to decimate the unconscionable and depraved current state of the cultural grappling landscape, he has guided his Spectral Envoy of the Final Judgement through space and time as they deal out justice in the guise of revenge towards those who desire to harm and exploit the vulnerable and voiceless. Now, UltraMantis Black takes his struggle to a new level. Set to release their debut EP in early 2014 via Relapse Records, UMB seeks to further spread his gospel through a relentless musical assault of hardcore cacophony. His message is a simple declaration of war. A godless jihad against those who continue to systematically enslave, torture, and murder the Earth and all innocent and sentient life that exists upon it. Clear missives of animal, earth, and human liberation delivered under the secretive cloak of lucha libre to the soundtrack of blasting audio terrorism. Stay tuned for details on the EP release and impending global domination as UltraMantis Black take their electrifying live show to an arena near you.  In the meantime you can watch UltraMantis Black destroy pathetic jobbers HERE and read his storied history at this location. This is UltraMantis Black.  Prepare yourself.

  10. It's the worst payoff to the best set up, overall. Great actor, great dialogue, interesting plots to a point. Then it all turns into idiotic cliched gibberish and is awful. So avoid it, because it's worse than watching a show with no good things.

    So it's British Dexter?

  11. 2010 RAW Roulette, called a "Trading Places" match

I could live without the RAW Roulette gimmick overall, but I loved the Goldust vs Regal mini-feud that centered around Regal always ending up embarassed to be a part of whatever match the wheel spun. The "Trading Places" match was fun, but I think the "Vegas Showgirl" match they had was better.

  12. I haven't heard anything about TK since he was doing the Nikozuna gimmick in Mexico, and that was, what, the mid-90's?

EDIT: Looks like he was a semi-regular for that group in Italy that Rikishi was booking a few years back, which makes sense.  Didn't know he worked a Z1 tour in '02.

Tonga Kid is retired and living in Northern California these days. His son Jacob Fatu is currently training at Rikishi's KnokX Pro Academy in the Los Angeles area and working on their shows. Showing great potential and a pretty charismatic face, has the same aerial presence his dad did back in the day.

  13. From today's update:

1981 - In Memphis, Joey Cagle & Rocky Sorter beat Eddie Gilbert & Ricky Morton to win the Southern tag team titles, Steve Keirn beat Bugsy McGraw to win the Mid-American title, Dream Machine beat Jerry Lawler in a loser leaves town match to win the Southern title when Koko Ware turned heel on Lawler as referee

    Joey Cagle & Rocky Sorter?

A tag team called The Heartbreakers. One of those '80s tag teams where it was two fat guys with blonde mullets doing evil pretty boy gimmicks. I don't think they were in the wrestling business much longer beyond this. I think they are part of an eight-man tag that is part of the '80s Memphis set.

    Sean Waltman ‏@TheRealXPac

If everyone that's a wrestling fan would just allow themselves to watch w/o over analyzing it, they would enjoy the show more & be happier

And what joy is there when the faces never win at anything?

Am I seriously the only one that remembers this entire board melting down over The Nexus showing ass after only a couple of weeks? I am in the camp that three weeks is not enough to declare this an nWo scenario just yet. Not to mention that we haven't hit the actual go-home show for the PPV yet.

The payoff promised for the Punk/Heyman feud is Heyman getting beat up and going away.  I enjoy Heyman, why would I want that?  Or he's going to bring in some other not over guy to feud with Punk?

Yeah, but it's supposed to get Punk over. Not Big Show, not Cody, and not The Miz.

At this point Bryan is pretty much a prop in this storyline.

Because God forbid a storyline be overarching throughout the entire roster and attempt to get multiple people more over.

  15. Yeah he was on a ton of ECW house shows in 98/99. He had good matches every time out. He had a house show match with Shane Douglas I enjoyed. Heyman had a severe case of big timers disease and never used Gang right. Personally I would have had him beat up Bam Bam and took his place in the Triple Threat. It is a shame that OMG never got a real run after WCW. Guy was huge with a great look and could bump like crazy while bleeding buckets. He had a tryout with Vince in 98 and they passed on him. I would have loved Gang and Bossman as Vince's enforcers.

Out of all the different places that I could have seen a house show match between One Man Gang and Tommy Rogers, the fact that I saw it at an ECW house show is still kind of weird and fucked up to me. Lansing, Michigan in January 1999. And that crowd was REALLY into One Man Gang that night for some reason, he was getting face pops for literally every move he made. He did that thing where he raises his fist in the air, goes "huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!!!!" and damn near everyone in the building did it with him. One of the more surreal experiences I've had as a fan at a live show.
