edit: he should bring in a fake attorney who tells him that ripping his contract totally releases him from the company

Get "Smart" Mark Sterling on the phone!

I honestly think it's for the best. It feels like life has gone on without Perry, and bringing him back now would just make him feel like a retread. Keep him with New Japan for the foreseeable future, and maybe do something with him at Forbidden Door and let him cut some scathing promo about how AEW did him wrong and try to create some buzz for him.

  2. I just finished the novelization of "The Omen" by David Seltzer. I've always been a big fan of the original trilogy, and then I found out that in addition to the original three movIes, there were novels penned for two other stories. Aside from a few odd changes from the movie (the main one being the protagonist's name is changed to Jeremy Thorn) it's quite good. There's some rudimentary backstory given to some of the side characters that makes for interesting reading.

Next on my list is "Safari" by Parnell Hall. It's book number 19 in his Stanley Hastings mystery series. And I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys either mysteries or light hearted stories. I've actually been taking my time in getting to this one because there's twenty books in the series. Parnell Hall passed away in 2020 (fuck Covid) and I'm dreading finishing the series.

What's the reason for pointing the finger at Detroit here? The Lions did not do anything wrong. The ref screwed up. It really is that simple.

My issue is the fact that after the whole thing got blown up, DC was still dead set on going for two. Even without the offsides call on Dallas, there was still no way that was going to work out for them.

Maybe I'm crazy, but if I'm Chicago I really think I use the #1 pick on Marvin Harrison Jr and let Fields cook with Moore and MHJ on the outside.

The last couple of weeks of seeing VJJ, Tonyan, and now Scott dropping perfectly placed balls that should be touchdowns, only make me think that's what Poles is going to do. When they were still strugging and looking at two top five picks, I'd have guessed trade the first for another haul and then use the second for Harrison. But there's no way that happens now.

Strong suspicion Joe wins the title Saturday. I think taking the ROH titles tonight was part of getting everything off of him so he can get surgery.

I thought so at first, but now I'm leaning toward doing something like Flair and Funk at WrestleWar. MJF can overcome the odds to beat Joe. They can do the big reveal beat down MJF and "end his career." MJF goes off and gets his surgery. In the meantime there's a few ways to occupy whoever the Devil winds up being, Adam Page is right there to start him off. MJF comes back for the revenge match at Revolution.

  6. It's the big 4-1 today for me. And living two time zones away from my best friend and a decent amount of family meant I was subject to a pre-6AM wakeup call of various texts wishing me a happy birthday. And also finding out that I share my day with Claudio Castagnoli, Bill Eadie, Zelina Vega, and Goldberg! And I'm releatively sure one of my friends will randomly pop up and remind me that on this day 25 years ago, Nash ended Goldberg's streak.

  7. Backstory: my better half is three classes away from getting her bachelor's and becoming a licensed english teacher. She's presently employed as a teaching assistant.

And it's clear that English teachers are very much needed in this day and age. She received an email from a student that started with the phrase 'yo check it' and proceeded to explain that they'd lost their assignment. No capitalization or punctuation, not even a real greeting.

  8. I had to drive to work in some of the thickest fog I'd ever seen about a month ago. You literally couldn't see more than three feet in front of you. The only time that I wasn't nervous or afraid was when I'd see some sort of taillight or traffic light up ahead, because I knew that I wasn't going to run into anything.

So, is the Golden Showers vs Absolute Big Assholes completely off the PPV, or will Jericho get to look for a new partner or do Starks and Bill get new challengers for the title?

My theory is that the title match is still on, but Jericho gets Danny Garcia to team with him. It can officially break him apart from the former JAS, and if they decide to do a title switch, it can potentially set up dissension with Omega for whenever he's recovered. And if they win, just imagine the victory dance celebration!

If we have any kaiju fans here, I just wanted to let everyone know that Godzilla Minus One is the best Godzilla movie since the original, and I loved it. I saw the US premiere in LA, and it was spectacular.

Shin Godzilla was more of a political satire. This is a post-WWII drama mixed with a disaster movie. Great reset for the franchise, and it actually nails the human story.

    See this movie opening day.

My rinky dink little desert town finally started showing Godzilla Minus One this week. It's absolutely worthy of all the hype it's getting. A friend of mine had told me that it was "fantastic" and I had to tell her that she'd actually undersold it.  It's basically a mix of Jaws, Independance Day, and Full Metal Jacket. I honestly think that you can show it to someone who doesn't care at all about kaiju or Godzilla and they'd reallly enjoy it!

Having Eddie go over and become double champ in his fucking hometown should be a no-brainer.  Good to see that our former board member absorbed the lessons learned from all of us armchair bookers here at DVDVR.

It was a great moment.  Tears were shed.

Claudio adhered to the Code at the end of the match and shook Eddie's hand.  Pure class.  More tears were shed.

I thought Sammy was dead after that Codebreaker counter to his SSP.  I hope Sammy leaving with Callis means that he's turning heel.  Takeshita / Guevarra might be the sexiest heel tag-team ever created.

Roderick Strong should just go full Iron Mike Sharpe and wrestle with a protective leather collar.  Hell, give him an industrial strength neck brace like Lord Humungus wore in The Road Warrior.

As happy as I am about Fenix winning the International belt, I have to believe that wasn't the original finish.  i hope Mox is okay.  I am kinda bummed that the Orange Cassidy journey to redemption and revenge has probably been shitcanned now that Mox is the ex-champ and probably injured.  Not a good night for the BCC.

Saraya retaining was the least interesting thing on this card but as most of you have said, Toni doesn't need the belt to be over.  The problem is what do you do with Saraya when you know that the woman the fans would rather see defend her title is Kris Statlander?

MJF being the thing that will not die because holding the AEW World Tile = Life for him is the best thing in this fed.

Twitter or X or whatever it's supposed to be called was all abuzz that Fenix legit fucked up Mox and that they did the finish on the fly, and Mox wasn't supposed to lose. I don't completely buy that for two reasons.

    1. Granted, we know how dedicated Mox is. But I can't imagine him saying "Hey I'm hurt, spike me on my head like that again!" When they could have literally done anything else after the phantom kickout to give Fenix the pin or Mox could have told Bryce "I'm hurt, just count to three" after the first one.

    2. The International Strap is supposed to be a midcard title, and Fenix getting it sort of re-cements it in place. Fenix gets the rub of a singles belt and beating Mox for it. But at the same time, he's not going to be headlining PPV shows with his title defenses.

Some brutal drops tonight for KC. Toney was on another planet all game.

My father said that when he gets to practice next week, that Reid and Mahomes are going to give him a Code Red and dump superglue on his hands while the rest of the team takes turns punching him in the arms for five minutes.

  13. I got myself a little hardway juice at the PT job yesterday. I was loading up an SUV with the hatch opened halfway and turned and smacked my head into the corner of the hatch. I basically said "Wow, that hurt" and then realized that I was bleeding and got the hell out of there. My manager saw me bleeding was like "Mike, WTF happened?" Once the bleeding stopped, I was fine. My wife got me home and when I got cleaned up it's barely a scratch and it's already scabbing over. But holy shit, it seemed like I was pouring blood when it happened.  I'm already prepared for going back there today and the first time I have to go out and load up a vehicle I'll hear "Watch your head, Mike!"

  14. To me, this was one of the weaker episodes of Collision. Too much talking and not enough of the in-ring stuff that's supposed to separate it from Dynamite and Rampage. The main event delivered and the women's tag was a pleasant surprise. The Joe squash had a purpose (and how about that lariat Joe used?) but, stuff like the impromptu Luchasaurus/Brock Anderson deal and the whole Hobbs/Miro thing seemed more suited for Dynamite.

  15. I was working on my review of the 3/19 NOAH show using my laptop when my kiddo needed to use it for a Zoom meeting. I saved my file and picked up where I left off using my wife's. Well, her version of Word started making some curious choices as to what words it alerted me were misspelled. I don't mean words like "brainbuster" or "Kenoh" but rather "would" "stretch" and "routine." I asked why her University provided copy of Microsoft Word was apparently really stupid about misspellings and she started poking around in the settings. Somehow or another, the default proofreading language was changed to Spanish.

  16. When the first three films got their own steelbook blu-ray releases to coincide with their 40th Anniversary, with the updated 4K scan, I assumed they'd do that for every film that Paramount owns. But then they rushed out a Final Chapter Steelbook without the Anniversary gimmick. So now I'm not so sure. I don't see them depriving the fanbase of a Jason Lives 4K or steelbook. But, I can see why they wouldn't want to go through the trouble and costs of getting new scans, when none of them are exactly anyone's favorite.

  17. The GLEAT show on 7/1 had a big surprise in the main event, with Fujita "Jr." Hayato winning the Lidet UWF Title from inaugural champion Takanori Ito. Ito won the tournament to become the first champion on 6/7, and his run lasted all of twenty-six days.

  18. I've become something of an obsessive collector of physical media versions of the orignal Friday the 13th films (ie before New Line got the rights to Jason). In the last couple of weeks I've managed to snag the steelbook blu-ray collection of the whole series and the original Friday the 13th on 4K. And now I've snagged the classic "From Cystal Lake to Manhatten" DVD collection, which I only got for the alternate cover art. I've already promised my wife that the only other purchase I plan on making (see? I'm giving myself an out!) will be a 4K of the sequel, should it ever come to pass.

  19. In southeast NM (not too terribly far from the Texas border) it's finally cooling down. The high temp today was *ONLY* 94 degrees. A nice change of pace from the 110 temps we'd been getting the last couple of weeks.

  20. I just recently discovered that the law career of Vincent LaGuardia Gambini has been continuing in the literary world since 2017. Last week I finished reading "Back to Brooklyn" which takes place right after the film ends, although it updates things to modern times. It's clearly a labor of love for the author. He perfectly captures the spirit of the Vinny and Lisa characters, to the point that I was reading it in Joe Pesci and Marissa Tomei's voices.
