  1. Whoops, need to catch up...

Finished the Leviathan trilogy. Nicely done, although I am about done with the "you meet your soulmate at 15" trope.

Read Partials and Fragments by Dan Wells. Interesting post-apocalypic, we-did-this-to-ourselves stuff, some good science, but the second book really feels like filler until the last 20 - 30 pages. Third one comes out next year, I believe.

In between library visits, I'm re-reading The Chronicles of Brother Cadfael by Ellis Peters.

Today I came home with The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin and Heir to Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier.

  2. So, fuck you Social Security Disability Insurance people. If I was a man, I'd've gotten approved years ago. But I'm a young woman with a slew of "invisible" disorders and shouldn't I be married and have a husband to take care of me and such so no you don't qualify and no you will probably never qualify.

  3. Before I die aloneBefore my time has goneThere's just one thing I have to doBefore the fire and stoneBefore your world is goneHave you some patienceCuz I will have my vengeanceBefore I die aloneLet me have vengeanceBefore my time has goneI will have vengeance

Spotify recommended this to me a while ago, and I cannot stop listening to this dude's music.

  4. Been playing a lot of Torchlight 2. Crazy fun game so far. A lot like Diablo 2 more so than Diablo 3 was. I have a level 29 berserker on veteran difficulty that is tearing through shit. I still die from time to time but the game is still tons 'o' fun!

The first game was a blast, too. Definitely need to get some money for this one. Can never have too many hacknslash clones.

  5. It's been nearly a month straight of rain here. Finally broke down and bought a dehumidifier so that towels and such would not get mildew. Wettest June since forever, and July apparently took that as a challenge. :-p

  6. Do you (or anyone else, but you mentioned it first) have any general recommendations for steampunk books, for someone completely ignorant of that genre?  The visuals and ideas of steampunk are something that I find fascinating to the point of wanting to play around with them in stories myself, but it seems like the books suffer from the same problem as the fantasy genre, which is simply a bad case of Sturgeon's Law with countless untalented hacks who somehow bluffed their way into authorial careers.  So, what's a good short list for beginners?

I'd start with this. I haven't read much of any steampunk, so you might want to look at the book in Amazon or Goodreads and see what else they recommend.
  7. Working on Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. A really neat steampunkish alt history taking place around the beginning of WWI.

Finished this last night. Excellent start! Will definitely look for more at the library if it ever stops raining here.

For now, re-reading Voyage of the Mourning Dawn by Rich Wulf.

  8. Lord of the Rings: Online, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Diablo III when I'm here on the computer.

Recently put in Summoner 2, an ancient game for PS2. I like it so far because of the female protaganist, but ye gods this game is not afraid to kick your ass and kill you early and often.
