  1. This is NOT to reinvigorate the earlier subject but I really thought I'd informally banned myself by making a personal statement about Joshi fans. I was legit frightened to see what the responses would be because I really like this community and didn't want to lose it. That's all I'll say about that.

To come up with a different topic in a topic-less thread:

What wrestlers are addressed in discussion more or equally to their ring name? The first that comes to mind is X-Pac/Sean Waltman. I see the latter come up more often in the contemporary sphere than the ring name. Wrestlers who used their real names don't count.

Read the last few posts regarding some dude trying to kiss Saraya, and then make it a niche of the niche of wrestling and you'll be as close to the answer as you'll get without actually doing the research.  The further you get from the mainstream the weirder people get.  If you are in the United States, people look at you like you're weird for liking wrestling.  People think you're even more weird if you like any wrestling that isn't WWE.  People think you are super weird if you like wrestling from another country.  People might assume you're a pervert if you like women's wrestling.  But, if you like women's wrestling, that isn't WWE, and isn't based in the United States, you might end up on a watchlist.  Here's the thing, you might be normal and resent the implications, but the more you look around you see that you might be an outlier.

    A watchlist? What?

  3. Danielson/Omega at Grand Slam 2021 has been the greatest highlight of my fandom for AEW. I was fuckin' freaking out at every twist and turn. It was a big fuckin' deal. I'm loath to enjoy matches for the sake of matches but Danielson/Omega was a match for the sake of a match and it delivered.

  4. So glad they had an AEW flag up there, it would have been dumb not to bring one. Doubt a WWF/E banner has ever been there!

Now I want to know if any other pro wrestlers have also done this. Surely someone has? Hell, Darby out Jeff Hardy'd Jeff Hardy.

  5. I'm really glad this issue about women wrestlers came up honestly because there's something that's starting to bother me and I don't know why:

Asking this and I hope no one feels attacked or thinks the worst about me, but why the fuck are Joshi fans so fucking weird?

I mean, I get being a superfan, obsessed with wrestling, all that. For some reason though, when it comes to specifically Japanese womens wrestling, there's an extra level of defensiveness/loyalty/photodumping.

If you happen to enjoy a certain promotion/regional wrestling that's fine but lord if Joshi fans don't seem like the most rabid diehards. Questioning anything or being underwhelmed by someone invites a level of vitriol nowhere near critiques of other women's *or* men's wrestling.

I won't go so far as to say it's sinister or a fetish but there's a level of devotion that I simply cannot fathom.

Again, I'm just noting a thing I've noticed in online circles. I do not mean to personally attack anyone and if this is out of bounds and creating a nonexistent issue please tell me.

(that I even worry enough about backlash to pre-emptively clarify what I mean should say something)

    Fines and/or suspension in theory.

I thought SD was ok and the main event was good but I didn't see anything super praising about the match until I looked at Cageside Seats.

There was an appreciation thread about it on the FAN board (which apparently was the Wrestlecrap board once) and I got a YouTube suggestion for JDfromNY206's review of SmackDown saying they "COOKED." It must come down to the corners of the IWC in which one dwells.

Of course that's up there but I absolutely love melodramatic 80s music cheese.

Now, where were we? Oh yeah, stay out of my booze!

  8. ... am I missing something? That Stratton/Jax match is being praised to the moon everywhere but I saw about *** at most. Was it that someone kicked out of Stratton's finisher? Hell, I actually laughed that Naomi's run-in was so ineffective. How the fuck you gonna miss someone with a swing of a chair in the narrow confines of the entranceway?

    That's Shane Douglas' music though.

I am glad that it's been a couple of hours, and nobody has brought up that xenophobic American sitcom of the same name though.

... and here I was about to say the Perfect Strangers theme is the best TV show theme ever.

EDIT: Okay, best sitcom theme ever.

  10. I'm torn on Jey Uso feuding with everyone. On one hand, it's great because everyone should always want the championship but it's so early in his first ever reign that he really needs some kind of focus. You also don't want to overexpose him because more opponents means more segments on TV. It's bad enough his primary feud since Mania has been with someone who only shows up a quarter of the shows at best.

  11. I was Sports-Entertained but this is still an odious format with only five fuckin' matches. I'm even someone opposed to the AEW model of matches and MOVEZ~ yet they felt the need to promote only five fuckin' matches but this feels like doing the literal bare minimum.

Thank goodness I only ever watch this stuff like a pirate because this would be awful otherwise.

  13. Oh man, forgot about THE GREATEST MATCH OF ALL TIME in 2020.

For real though, Backlash 2000 is waaay up there in terms of secondary PPVs and it's as if the ends of the shows between it and Mania 2000 were switched somehow. That pop for Austin is severely underrated in WWE's flashback clips.

Just like that Light Heavyweight Championship match, amirite?

According to luchablog AEW 'Grand Slam Mexico' is completely sold out.  It sold out in one day.

Fantastic. I'm trying to think of the last US event in at least a major arena like that one which sold out in a day.

  15. They have to eliminate the around the ring spear while Bron's a heel. Keep it as a finisher in the ring sure, but save his next around the ring one for his face turn. You can't have the crowd cheering on the vicious heel to beat the fuck out of the sympathetic babyface, especially when Bron's heel turn is only a week old. Maybe the guy I listen to regularly who I'm never supposed to bring up on wrestling boards was right when he remarked that WWE audiences just seem to like everyone now. As long as they can chant something or sing along to someone's music, who cares about heros and villains?

I didn't get why the match happened in the first place. Yeah, the implication earlier in the night as Heyman left Sami's locker room was that Bron would be part of a vicious beatdown later after Sami spurred them. Then Bron comes out in his gear after Sami tells Seth to go to hell and I go "aw shit, Sami's gonna die now!" Commercial break. What. There hadn't been an announcement about a Bron/Sami match earlier, why would there be? Sami could still possibly join them. After he declines, NOW we have a match? Win or lose, Sami is outnumbered in the aftermath and he'll get his ass kicked. It felt like an egregious case of making the babyface really really stupid.

EDIT: Honestly all of this consternation is because I really enjoyed the rest of the show. I've now seen two Vaquer matches and have liked both. A rare Rhea singles match on TV delivered. Becky and Lyra sounded pretty convincing. I liked the opening segment and the continuous check-ins throughout the night.

Aldis made himself being there actually FEEL different than if Pearce was there. Penta beefing with Gable and his squad will rule. McAfee's promo was pretty good too and got better as he started doing more shit like Punk like looking down into the camera. If Gunther doesn't kill him in less than a minute and McAfee doesn't show up for his own program with at LEAST a TK Memorial neckbrace I'mma be annoyed.

    Hmm, what else...

Given the short time to build for Backlash, I'm fine with a Jey/Logan mini-feud. Jey's finding himself a victim of his own presentation, having to subtly ask the crowds to not YEET his promos to death. Hopefully he keeps the entrance and catchphrase but it isn't a constant cacophony of Yeeting.

I still am not sure which one is Matt or Nick. I also was never sure which one was Max or Jeremy. I'll try to pay more attention and see if I can notice what you are saying. They just are "oh, good workrate tag match" to me.

I just realized one seemed to do almost all the talking and that helped. Pre-singles Usos and especially the pre-"Uso Penitentiary" version of the team were so much harder to figure out for me.
