  1. Cody/Dustin vs Lucha Bros on the 1/8 show sounds cool and all but why are we just throwing out these matches that could be built up and be actual feuds? As of my last count Cody is feuding with Spears, Inner Circle, Butcher, Blade, MJF, Wardlow, Dark Order. That's at least 15 guys right there. Can't we just pick one or two of them? Also, since Cody and Dustin are treated as super babyfaces, does that mean Lucha Bros are officially heels? If so, why? Crowd wants to love them & their moves always get them cheered anyways.

Just a weird match announcement if you ask me.

That main event ending with a job tag team angle, lol. I think they needed something more impactful than Jon Silver and  Alex Reynolds joining the Dark Order though it was cool to see the entire Elite try to put them over.

If everyone is a star, nobody is a star.

I think it's very nice guys like Omega/Bucks/Cody wanna help everyone of their buddies out & make everyone feel important but that's not how pro wrestling works. When pro wrestling is working well you have either a big star like Hogan/Cena or a group of top guys who are clearly positioned as head and shoulders above the rest. Kenny should not be going 50/50 and needing 15 minutes to beat Kip Sabian. Bucks should not be losing tag feuds to Lucha Bros, LAX, SCU & presumably next to the Dark Order. Cody is currently elevating MJF yet he's also fucking around with Butcher, Blade, Darby & already went through the Spears nonsense. The funny thing is the example is right there in front of them - Moxley. He's a star. He gave Janela a bit but beat him quite decisively. Same thing with Darby. Jericho is doing a masterful job at making people feel important by giving them a little but still you never leave the match/angle/feud thinking they are completely on his level. The Omega/Bucks/Cody group have not mastered that yet. They end up bringing themselves down to the level of the guys they think they are elevating.

You can't make everyone all at once & you can't waste valuable TV time on nonsense like this Brandi thing. She's great on the eyes but the entire concept of another group recruiting people is superfluous.

I really liked the show even with the cold angle at the end. Hopefully this break gives everyone a chance to step back and re-examine what's going on here. I'm all for the group-think instead of a one man Vince McMahon's way or the highway product but there definitely needs to be one person at the top willing to tell people 'no' for the betterment of the company.

Mascaras worked a show around this time last year where he legitimately needed someone to hold his hand while he climbed the top rope for his dive.

He also works with his entire body covered most of the time because he has open sores all over like many 70+ year olds tend to have. Still won't do a job though because "it wouldn't be realistic".

  4. They tried the corner thing with Cien Caras like a year ago in a match with Rush & one of his brother vs Sanson & Cuatrero. Originally it was a trios I think with Cien Caras/Rush's dad involved but they realize oh fuck Cien Caras can barely move. So they figured the safe thing was to just have a match where the ***ONE THING*** he needed to do was an easy spot to counter Bestia's interference. So of course the time came for the spot and Cien Caras forgot it was his moment. Which led to Bestia freezing. And the entire match freezing. Then Caras remembered it was his turn to interfere but the timing made it seem like he was trying to cost his own kids the match. It was a giant humiliating mess for all involved. And we never saw Cien again. What a way to go out.

  5. Mascaras is done too. We've definitely crossed the threshold where watching some of these guys went from a fun throwback to just plain sad. At least for me. Do we need to see Super Astro slipping off the ropes & almost crashing on a tope? Do we need to see Negro Navarro reaching to reverse a hold but not having the flexibility to grab Virus' arm so Virus has to very obviously move himself closer? Do we need to see Canek being helped to the ring by a child because he can't walk for an extended period on his own. I wish these guys had more self-respect.

  6. Legit the worst match of the night. People don't want to admit it because it marks the end of an era but Navarro is done. Panther is done. Super Astro has it in him to do the one spot we remember of him per match but is otherwise done. Casas is the last one standing in terms of an old legend that can still work at an acceptable level. And even he is not even close to what he was pre-injured by Sam 450 & the health problems that followed.

  7. First of all - the entire Joey thing is sad to watch play out. It's going to end terribly & as a wrestling community we shouldn't be enabling him by finding joy in watching what is happening play out in front of our very eyes. People like BJ Whitmer & Kelly Klein should feel worse for using his current state to push their own agendas. This is of course not to say any of the claims against ROH don't have merit.

Second - I don't understand the negativity towards ROH in the sense of wanting them to go out of buisness. ROH gives at minimum 20-30 wrestlers (& some staff) a way to make a great living at pro wrestling while doing a relatively easy schedule compared to other organizations. You want that to stop just because you don't like Matt Taven matches or how Delirious books? Just stop watching if that's the case. Why wish for the company to die & wrestlers to have less options? That's the part that confuses me.

  8. 95 year old Chavo Lutteroth II definitely comes off as someone with one foot in the grave already if you know what I mean. Not sure why they put him in front of a microphone but clearly he had a message to get out which for all we know may end up being his last.

Ah, that sucks, I followed them pretty heavy up until a few years ago and they were always good for atleast a few great matches a year still until then.

Are there any new generation guys carrying on the matwork style they do I should seek out?

Sadly not enough. Look for Virus vs Metalico if you haven't seen it yet or Virus vs Electrico in Puebla.

AAA show was good tonight. Fenix/Kenny easily a MOTYC. 3 way mixed tag was very fun & Copa Pena was also fun until the final 2 when it got great and is must-see.

  10. Skayde has kinda been MIA. Navarro missed lots of time due to his heart condition. Black Terry has been on and off injured as well and still had limited mobility with his one arm. So there isn't much unless you are stretching to find good stuff.

In other news - CMLL did a rare good thing and put Star Jr. over in the Gran Alternativa. A talented and deserving guy. Curious to see if this was a one-off and he just moves into the mix where Dragon Lee was booked or if he gets a little push as a new star.

  11. Dragon Lee is not signed to an ROH contract. (Or was not when he arrived this weekend)

The PWG thing is overblown in terms of overall picture. His recent CMLL suspension was because he decided to do BOLA against orders. The funny thing about that is CMLL specifically didn't want him working with Fenix/Penta who are not even signed to AAA contracts & he had just worked with them in Mexico City on an indy show a couple days before BOLA. CMLL doesn't even know who they classify as AAA talent. They pick Fenix/Penta because of their association with Konnan. For example a couple days before Wrestlemania weekend there was a show in Nuevo Laredo where Laredo Kid *cleanly* beat both Titan & Cavernario in a 3 way match. Laredo Kid *is* a contracted AAA wrestler who was even a double champ at the time. CMLL still allowed it.

If CMLL clamps down even further and bans their talent from not only working with Fenix/Penta but also Rush/Dragon Lee - that's a problem for all their wrestlers since you would be hard pressed to find an notable indy show in Mexico that doesn't feature one of those four as headliners.

I bought a PWG three (I think) disc comp set from Best Buy a decade ago and I guarantee I never finished it

EDIT: Checked and yes it is three discs and NINE HOURS LONG. Fuckin' hell...

I don't even understand the point here? It was a series of comps featuring the best stuff over many years. 9 hours actually seems like too little, hence why there were 3 volumes of 3 disc sets. If you watch RAW, Smackdown, NXT, NXT UK & 205 Live weekly you are consuming 9 hours of WWE programming ***on a weekly basis***. I'd saying fuckin' hell to that... LOL

And yes if PWG switched to streaming the rules would change but stuff like that just goes over the head of the folks who just say they want convenience but in reality they just want the shows up on torrents faster than waiting a month for the guy who rips it off the DVD to get his order.

I like Big Dave and I'm far from so many of the posters who take every opportunity to dump on him but his PWG bias is out of control now. I don't even know if I'm going to bother with BOLA. I think the thing that I remember most from last year's was that hilariously awful PCO/Brody King match. I like most everybody in this year's tournament but ugh. Hate where it's at.

Is it a PWG bias or is it that all Dave sees is PWG? Dude has to cover the entire pro wrestling industry every week. It's quite possible the hard working guy with a family doesn't have the time to watch weekly Beyond or every Big Japan show or even Impact which is seen by a couple thousand folks on twitter. He seems to prioritize watching the relevant promotions & when it comes to US indies he attends PWG live since it's one show every couple months in a location close to him. So yeah... he's gonna have a lot of say about PWG & discuss all the great wrestling he sees there. It's not bias, it's just frame of reference. When he manages to get away to attend a big wrestling weekend he covers other stuff (see: AAW in Chicago or the WrestleCon/Bloodsport shows in New York) and often raves about what he sees.

As for the person who made a crack about PWG being stuck in 2008... how many other indies that existed in 2008 are still around running in the black? You can argue until you are blue in the face about why PWG should switch to streaming but the fact remains PWG continues to make money using the model they've stuck with all these years. If they switched & things went south, not only would there be no going back but how many of the folks who bitched about no streaming would be there to support the company? They'd just move onto the next group which is why so many indies over the years died out.

I think the Fenix/Laredo/Puma/Taurus AAA Title 4-way from 8/10 is really really worth a watch. It's all the usual fun stuff you'd expect but a bit of extra focus on Taurus as the biggest guy in the match that everyone has to deal with gives it a little more structure. As good as anything AAA have done this year aside from maybe the Vikingo/Laredo match and the Triplemania main.

Very much agree. I think Cubsfan said it best when he noted something in that PWG match sparked something in Taurus who realized how he should be working as a monster.

Summer Supercard was super fun. My ringside seats were a few away from @Robert and right behind Bobby Cruise, who was totally cool and let me take pics with some of the belts that were at the timekeepers table. Standouts for me was the surprise match with The Villain, Rush vs Dalton, the CMLL 6 man (almost like a Friday night inside Arena Mexico) and Ladder Wars was BANANA. I've met and have had fantastic experiences meeting both GoD and The Briscoes and the both fucking killed it. I actually had pretty low expectations for this card and I had a freaking amazing time.

Hell yeah - great meeting you!

Show was awesome. There were maybe only 2 things I didn't like but everything else was good. If they had run a smaller building (Ted Reeve) it still wouldn't have been full but would have come off way better. I gotta watch how the main event came off on video but live it was totally wild and those guys were murdering each other. Of course I'm biased so I loved the CMLL trios the most. They really hit a home run and crowd seemed very excited to see something different. They left so quick afterwards I couldn't even reach my wallet to throw some dollars! Crowd hated Taven and he is a total failure as a champ but the match with Shelley was real good. Some of those nearfalls were genius and crowd believed Shelley would win even though pre-match everyone seemed resigned to the fact Taven was retaining. The Bandido tag was real good and progressed the Gresham story.

I've said it a million times so no point going through it all over again but ROH has the pieces, they just need to use them better. With all the available talent out there in 2019 you should not be focused around The Kingdom, Shane Taylor & trying to get over a women's division built around the Angelina Love group.
