  1. Some serious loss of brain function at the end of the last episode.  First somehow Bananas convinces Nany that Cara Maria is a threat to her and to vote her in.  (She's got a fucking broken hand dummy)  Then, Nany changes her mind.  But when TJ tells Nany and Bananas they're going into the elimination if they can't agree, Nany changes her vote.  Like Bananas really would have gone into the elimination if she stuck with her Theresa vote.  Then to top it off, Cara Maria loses her mind and accuses Theresa of swaying Nany's vote with her buddying.  Nany just said Theresa's name twice to keep you out before she got hoodwinked like a 3 year old that gets a quarter pulled out of her ear.

  2. That was a fun episode. You gotta feel bad for Brandon as he had zero point zero chance of winning. I wonder it any of those dudes would have forfeited vs Zack there.

I gotta believe Aneesa is tight with the producers at this point. She's gross and seemingly friends with nobody. Laurel makes a pretty great heel. I wonder if she's rubbing off on Jordan as he's going from one handed hero to self inflated douche pretty quickly.

I'm liking this format. We're getting the old guard/new guard dynamic with Johnny/CT and Jordan/Zack. It's gonna be interesting to see if the house begins to turn on the vets going forward. Still a lot of dead weight to go through though.

You're right, Aneesa is the worst.  Just ahead of Danny from Austin.

  3. This is amazing.  Is this generation of Challengers the most sensitive of all time?  Jeez, get over getting voted for the Elimination.

EDIT:  Latoya has secured a lifetime invitation to every Challenge.

  4. Also, it appears that Act Yasukawa is in the hospital. I had trouble sussing out the details (Google Translate was no help), but she posted pics of her in the hospital on her Facebook page and on her blog, so yeah.

So, that kind of sucks. :/

That does suck, she is my new hero.  She seems to be channeling some classic Southern heels.

  5. I felt bad for Steven Yeun in this episode.  He had to play out this ridiculous plot where Glen walks down the zombie filled, pitch black tunnel with a one legged woman in tow.  I've seen teens in slasher movies with better decision making skills.

  6. It's actually kind of odd. One of the fundamental elements of all fiction is change. Not that all fiction has to result in a change, but generally speaking, in the best fiction, there is some effort made towards change,

This is the argument that Brian Cox made in Adaptation.  I think it goes back to what Ledoux said about the flat circle (and Rust expanded on).  Rust will always return to the nihilistic mind-space that drives people away.  Marty will always be tempted by young women that will torpedo his marriage.  These characters' flaws will always drag them down.  (or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about)

  7. Just realized the guy behind the True Detective cameras also directed Sin Nombre.  It's all starting to make sense now.  Dude is going to have a long career.

And the cinematographer is the same one from Top of the Lake, if anyone has ever seen that.

  8. Wow, it doesn't seem anybody gets Lost in Translation.  The main characters aren't supposed to be sympathetic.  Maybe because I experienced something similar in Japan, it makes sense to me.  Minus the Park Hyatt Tokyo.

As for the topic, I'll say everybody in Outbreak besides Dustin Hoffman.

  9.

Fantasy booking the season 2 actors is going to be fun. I gotta believe one of the big leads next season is a woman.

Julianne Moore and Jean Reno maybe? Snowball's chance?

Maude Lebowski and Hubert Fiorentini (on his way back to Paris from Japan) team up to rid the local beach community of political advocates.

  10. Another really good episode. It's been awhile since there's a show where I am considering rewatching it sometime before the next one airs. I love this character McConaughey is playing.

As much as I'm enjoying this week to week I'm envious of people who are letting them build up on the DVR. Seems like it would be even better binge watched.

Yep, I'd love to come in fresh and watch these all at once.  Episode 3 threw out some names that I had totally forgotten about.  But the ending of that episode was just perfectly horrifying.

  11. That isn't even factoring in the countless number of non-WWE wrestling fans, or fans who don't watch wrestling anymore but want access to a digital archive of WWE/WCW/ECW. That also isn't even factoring in the amount of people who stream these PPV's for free who may choose to just pay the small Network fee to do so now.

I don't see them having any trouble hitting 1 million and doing so fairly quickly.

I haven't watched a WWE show in years and years  (apart from the Kharma appearances) and I will most likely be signing up.

  12.

FSW needs to watch Spring Stampede '94. Actually, '94 prior to Hogan's arrival... most of it is fucking great but Spring Stampede might be the best PPV ever.

    Might?

    MIGHT?

It's the greatest pro wrestling show ever, period, full fucking stop.

Slamboree '94 right after it is top 5 all-time, as well.

Especially if Vince has footage of this.

Dark match: Danny Bonaduce defeated Christopher Knight

  13. You know who was up for Mike's cameo role in The Hangover 2? Mel Gibson. Mel had one of the most successful careers in Hollywood and always straddled the line as a very opinionated guy. However, he didn't TRULY cross it until 2010 with the tapes with his wife. The anti-semitic stuff in 2006 was damn close, but there was pressure to release Apocalypto. Everything other that was in the realm of movies, his profession. But when those tapes came out, he made it impossible to even get a cameo as a tattoo artist in The Hangover II. That's the nadir for someone who has released some of the biggest movies all time. Go ahead, name the biggest theatrical release for Mel since those tapes came out. I'll wait.

Actually, the part that Gibson was slated for was the tattoo artist that went to Liam Neeson instead.  Then that ended up going to Nick Cassavetes when Neeson couldn't do reshoots.

  14. Would Linda Hamilton in The Terminator movies count? I've seen her in other stuff, and she's really not that good.

You're not gonna count Dante's Peak?

    R. Lee Ermey in Hexed.  He's no Gunny Hartman in this one, but he did give me one of my favorite lines in movie history:  (as a detective in the interrogation room) "Lady, I'm divorced, with no charisma...I have no where to go."

I'll throw in Fletch Lives and Saving Silverman for good ol' R. Lee.

  15. I'm looking forward to this card probably more than any show I've seen this year.  I do hope Tate gets her arm stretched again not because I don't like her but more because she doesn't deserve to be there.  Cat Zingano beat her but Tate still got rewarded with the show and the title fight.   It's odd since Tate was the one initially complaining about Ronda getting pushed to the front of the women's division back when they originally fought and had a big problem with Ronda in her opinion not deserving to fight her at the time.  Now it's reversed but it's cool because she's benefitting.

And for some reason, Tate is continuing to play the "Ronda hasn't paid her dues" card.  http://www.upi.com/blog/2013/12/24/Miesha-Tate-Ronda-Rousey-hasnt-paid-her-dues/3731387910329/

"Every single woman that fights MMA has done just as much work as Ronda has, we just haven't gotten as much turnaround," Tate said.  "Those women who came before her haven’t been on magazine covers, they weren't plastered everywhere by the UFC. They didn't get the same reward back. She got 10 times back what she was putting in and maybe everyone else was getting 1 to 1."

Tate, who will take on Rousey on Saturday at UFC 168, said a win will mean a victory for all the others who fought "for breadcrumbs," "only for the love of the sport."

"I've been there and experienced it," she said. "I'm gonna share some of the limelight. These are the girls who deserve a pat on the back."

That's like saying Tom Brady hasn't paid his dues because he never had to wear a leather helmet.  Maybe somebody should tell her without Ronda Rousey, she probably wouldn't be co-main event on Saturday.

  16. Yep, I'm with the "Baby didn't get eaten" crowd.  I loved the look of pride on Hershel's face after Rick gave his speech.  (Even if you could see what was coming)  But I think it would have be even better if they had switched out his speech for the one Rocky gives in Rocky IV.

  17.

Funny Farm, the best Chevy Chase movie of the '80's that didn't involve going on Vacation.

    Have you not watched Fletch?

Non-Vacation Chevy Chase movies from the 80s, I'd have Fletch, Fletch Lives, Caddyshack (maybe not a Chevy Chase movie), Seems Like Old Times, Spies Like Us and Three Amigos ahead of Funny Farm.  But that isn't a slight on Funny Farm, that's just a compliment on Chevy Chase's output back in the day.

  18. I have no idea if anyone here watches TUF but can someone explain to me how 2 guys can fail to make weight so badly?

It just blows my mind that these guys walk around at 150-155 and then cut to 135 for a fight. That can't be healthy right? Is there some sort of tactical advantage? Wouldn't it make more sense to cut to 145 and fight there? Or even try to train a little more muscle onto the body and just fight at a natural 155?

Im obviously showing my total lack of understanding about fight prep here but I just cant get my head around these two guys walking around at 150+ when they know they need to be under 136 in a matter of days.

Can someone with a better knowledge of camps and fight prep please explain to me why these guys would cut down to such a low weight rather than fighting at something closer to a 'natural' size?

    Thanks in advance.

Anthony had made weight for his fight with Cody exactly one week prior to his fight with Davey. They didn't show it, but I saw him step on the scale at 136 for that fight. After that weight cut, though, he kind of went crazy with the food. That whole week he kept treating himself and making exceptions. One week was the longest any of us had to prepare for a weight cut. One of the toughest parts of the show was having to always be so close to weight because if you were picked to fight, you only had 24 hours to make weight... And since you had no guarantee you were gonna fight, you had to cut weight just in case.

So the fact that he had a whole week to prepare really was a luxury, and he had no excuse not to make the weight. He just lost discipline and lost focus during that time, and it cost him the opportunity of a lifetime. It had nothing to do with him not being physically able to cut the weight either. This is why Ronda made the decision to make weight in 24 hours. The editing of the show makes it seem like Dana talked her out of it, but let me tell you what really happened...

Anthony tried to say that it just wasn't possible for him to cut the weight because he had screwed up on his diet. But here's the thing, he could have made it. He left the gym the night before at 144, which is well within a range to make the weight. There is a science to cutting weight and lots of things that we as fighters can do to make it easier on ourselves, but the BIGGEST factor in the weight cut is your mental fortitude...and this is what Ronda wanted to prove.

She jumped on the scale after Anthony missed weight and was 152 pounds. Without any sort of prep (diet, water loading, sodium loading/cutting, etc.) jumped in the sauna and was in there for FIVE hours before it was time to go to the coaches challenge. Yes, Ronda Rousey cut weight in the sauna for five hours, went to a rock climbing challenge, won, and then went BACK to the sauna that night and cut some more.

The next day when it was time for Jessica and Raquel to fight, she was at the gym before anyone else arrived and was back in the sauna cutting weight. When the rest of us arrived she was sitting at 136 pounds in the locker room. I watched her warm up Rakoczy for her fight while on weight and then step on the scale in front of Dana and be 135 pounds. She did this to prove a point.
