  1. I felt this match was entirely skippable. Kevin von Erich has never done much for me. He is definitely athletic and at times has some fun offense, but he's always struck me as completely unable to guide a match and utterly lost when in control more more than 30 seconds at a time. Wrestling in a foreign country definitely didn't help him.

Pirata Morgan was excellent, and his bump to the outside was sick if not incredibly wasted in this match, but everything not involving him was average if not even tedious. All the tecnicos seemed incredibly lost, until mercifully the match was over.

  2. This is definitely a lower half of ballot type of match. Some good segments, and the ref bump and brawling at the end did really work as being out of control, but the match never flowed. Some very slow segments that quickly spead up then just as inexplicably went back to nothing.

I've never really commented on matches before and I'm not too good at write-ups like soup23 above but I just wanted to add a note about this match.

The structure of this match and matches like it are pretty much my favourite type of wrestling.  I like matches with a solid wrestling baseline and then some form of escalation, in this instance from the mat to the suplexes to the dives and then a bit of brawling.

Soup mentions the viciousness within the confines of wrestling holds, thats exactly what makes this match.

Don't let brevity stop you from posting. I am interested in reading lots of opinions on this set, no matter how brief.

That said, I really felt like the last Canek match was far better at making each hold seem violent and demanding. Not that this match looked soft, but the start-stop rythm of it made some of the holds seem much more like rest holds than a guy going for a submission.

  3. Canek was great in this match, as he showed that he can probably out-wrestle Corleon, but didn't hesitate to get his cheap shots in, like dropping the knee into the hammerlock. Every hold in this match seemed like an absolute struggle, and the spot others mentioned where Corleon kept hitting those elbows to keep the headlock on was awesome. Some of Corleon's strikes left a little to be desired, or maybe Canek's selling of them was off, but the matwork in this was intense. The topes at the end were cool, and all in all this was a really good match.

  4. It seems like I liked this a lot more than others, which kind of surprises me. I liked how each fall kind of picked up the pace a little bit, until the 3rd fall had the topes into filth and both guys really cutting loose with their offense. Hamada moving from a crossbody into a sunset flip at the end was really smooth and impressive. I liked the pace, with each guy kind of wanting to go fast, but afraid to make a mistake and get caught. I didn't think the matwork "didn't go anywhere" as much as Centurion Negro was trying to keep Hamada grounded, but couldn't and lost.

Lou Thesz's shirt looks like he bought it at the Boomtown Rats' garage sale.

  5. I really liked this match. It started out as a fun, fast-paced offense showcase, with Sayama actually looking good and Perro and Baby Face with excellent punches and kicks. Sayama worked well as a young, raw talent not yet experienced enough to overcome Perro & Baby Face's cheating. Hamada as the big brother, getting more and more pissed at the rudos was good, too. Sayama at the end of the first fall has been talked about. It clearly wasn't good. It easily could have been worse.

I loved how this match started to pick up in the 3rd fall, with Hamada getting more and more pissed, until Perro realizes he's probably not gonna' beat him tonight and decides to end the match.

Also, some guy in the front row was on the phone.

  6. I threw out nearly all of my VHS when I moved in with my then soon-to-be wife. She said I didn't have to do that, but 1) I knew better than that and 2) I had 2+ folders of wrestling DVDs. About two years ago I found that I had like two shelves of wrestling VHS at my parents' house, which includes a NWO Japan commercial tape with this bizarre interview with a very drunk Nash, Hall and Syxx, a ZIPANG show and a few Sabu comps.
