Didn't Tyler Reks freak out on a plane or something like that?

Yep. He claimed there was something wrong with the engine. And he knew this because he was a pilot. He demanded to be let off the plane and suggested that others should follow him. It did not endear him to anyone.

The Whammies were animated by Savage Steve Holland, who would go on to direct the John Cusack/Curtis Armstrong classic "Better Off Dead."  This has nothing to do with TNA; I just really love that movie.

Though now that I think about it, it's funny to imagine pissed off cameramen chasing Dixie around the Impact Zone and shouting, "I want my two dollars!"

TNA would be worlds better if Savage Steve Holland had the book.

EC3 would make a fine Teddy Beckerstead stand in.

I seem to remember me and my dad laughing at Avatar because he botched a lot. Did this happen? Or did he just botch once and we laughed about it and my memory is playing tricks on me?

In his debut match I remember at least three botches, I don't think that gimmick made TV more than a couple times.

    Well I'll be damned.

Ahmed was such an exciting presence when he first came on board and got that big shine at Survivor Series. Pity injuries fucked him up so badly as he'd have been champ in no time IMO

I thought so at the time too. Looking back on it though, he was probably too reckless and dangerous in ring to get to that level. Fun to watch, not to work with.

  6. I'm of the belief Kevin Greene could have been great if he had stuck with wrestling. He just had "it".

I remember growing up, Minnesota Twins first baseman Kent Hrbek always talked about a career in pro wrestling whenever he was done with baseball, he even had a gimmick name ( " T-Rex "). Perhaps AWA shutting it's doors put the kibosh on that, I think he would've been great.

Has anyone ever run a match where all the spots are intentionally called loud enough to be heard by the audience?

i seem to remember Road Dogg and Mick Foley doing something to that effect on a house show, calling spots on mic for everyone to hear. Then they had a "miscommunication" and started going at it "for real". Not sure if this is and Internet folk tale or not, never seen footage.

Edit: sorry about huge empty space, I'm on my phone

  8. Is there a pending lawsuit where a kid died because he took this move or something? I just can't fathom how they went from building up this move as an elite finisher to never speaking of it again seemingly overnight.

I think it was around the time of the class action lawsuit from former wrestlers concerning concussions, and the perception of the top guy stomping people's heads as a finishing move wouldn't look good on their part, in the internal opinion.

  9. Been watching a lot of 1987 JCP and I'm wondering how Sean Royal from The New Breed didn't become a star. He was a really good promo, had a great look and could work. I know that Chris Champion's injury derailed The New Breed but Royal was pretty clearly the star of the team.

In an effort to learn more about Sean Royal, I read his wiki. Apparently in 2002, (same year the New Breed traveled back from), another Sean Royal turned up. They were both active for a time, and the older was being credited for championships the younger one had won. I really hope all of that is just time travel continuinty stuff.

  10. Honestly, I know the Nexus thing was hot, but Barrett never struck me as a guy close to being World Champion material.

Good promo, solidish in-ring, but I never saw this main event potential other people apparently did.

Being made of glass obviously didn't help, either.

Barrett as a short term champ during the height of the Nexus would still be more fondly remembered than Swaggee. It would have made that period of time alot more significant and memorable, and possibly had him in a better slot now.

  11. Vince doesn't get to pick the guy. The fans get to pick the guy. And if he keeps fighting this, it'll never work.

It seems as though once something works, it will get redone over and over thinking it will work again, ignoring the circumstances that lead to the original thing working. The evil authority figure etc.

  12. Was there a reason Bob Holly and the Kid won the tag title tournament after replacing the Smoking Gunns in 95 only to lose the titles the next night...to the Smoking Gunns?

Bob Holly mentioned it in his book. And no, there was no given reason. When he asked why they were dropping the belts they had no real answer. I would guess the Gunns were originally scheduled to win the tourney and Billy's injury made them unable to compete, so the Gunns winning the next night just returned to the status quo.

Isn;t the old school theory/rule that if you sub a babyface into a title match they have to win. Send the fans home happy even if they didn't see what was advertised.

There is some truth to this, but it's not as if Holly/Kid just stepped in to the finals of the tournament. They replaced the Gunns before the first round started, so it's a bit of a stretch in that respect.
