  1. Borat? REALLY??

I spaced on the traumatizing part. That said, you really only need to watch it once.
NOT TRUE. Borat was the last movie I saw in theaters twice because I was laughing so hard first time around I missed half the jokes. Besides, a lil' teabagging never hurt nobody that wasn't tied down to a bench in the lockerroom after practice.
  2. People getting their panties in a bunch over this is hilarious. WWE stock has corrected, and the people pushing the "oust Vince" narrative apparently bought their shares on a long put, which means they want to drive the stock as low as possible before their time is up and then they'll sell at a healthy profit.

WWE stock is back at its 18 month average, I'm not sure why everyone's blowing their brains out about this.

No, that investment firm went short on it from $30 to $11, closed out after a 60% return, and are now long, meaning they've already made all the money they're going to make from a drop in the price. At this point they're anticipating an increase in the share price, not a decrease. If it drops more, they lose money. The company just lost 2\3 of their value in a matter of weeks, it's a pretty big fucking deal.

Again, the "ouster Vince" talk is because of how off they were with the TV fees/network subscriber numbers (And yes, Vince DID say shareholders could guarantee a huge increase He added fuel to the fire comparing themselves to NASCAR, it wasn't some analyst as JP Morgan who realized the demographics between the 2 were similar). Further, yeah it's within its 18-month range, but over the past 10 years it's remained within the same $8-$16 range, despite being the entire North American wrestling industry. To top it all off, they've been able to INCREASE revenue during this entire period, yet they've become less and less profitable every year because SG&A costs keep increasing.

It's one thing to blame management for stagnant stock price because consumers simply aren't buying the pro-d-uct, it's another thing entirely when profitability dwindles because management can't keep costs under control and uses the cash balance to paythemselves dividends despite not having sufficient net income.

  3. I could've sworn that I checked Netflix like a month or 2 ago and they had NO Godzilla sans the Zilla animated series. But lo and behold, they have King, Raids Again, Vs. Mothra, Ghidorah, Monster Zero (why the U.S. Title is AstroMonster, I do not know), Terror of MechaGodzilla, and sadly Godzilla's Revenge. Why, of all the ones to secure the rights to, they decided on Revenge is both bewildering and disappointing.

  4. Wow you saw them completely backwards? That's an interesting perspective to have on the series. By the time you get to Alien you're probably thinking - you'll want to die when it's all said and done, Ripley.

First time I hung out with this kid in 4th grade he had Aliens 3 rented from Blockbuster, as he had just gotten through the other 2 so I was forced to watch the third one. After enjoying it, he told me we had to watch Aliens because it "was the best," and eventually worked our way back to the original. Good thing Resurection wasn't out yet, otherwise I probably wouldn't have hung out with him again.

  5. Maybe it's because I saw them out of order (Alien 3, Aliens, Alien), but I always thought Aliens was the superior one. And if anything, considered Predator "scarier" than Alien because there's at least a remote chance I could find myself being hunted in the jungle one day (despite my general aversion to humidity and insects), whereas I could identify no such interstellar scenario.

  6. RE: Stock prices.

Definitely Vince exaggerated, but come on, a minimal amount of research, or even subscribing to the observer for a month (or getting an underling to do it if you're too busy), would have easily made it clear how much BS it was that they would quadruple their rights fees.

Bear in mind I know virtually nothing about stocks/Wall street, but don't people like to, you know, LOOK INTO the stuff they invest millions in?

It's just very odd that literally thousands of people on message boards and whatnot knew there was no way they were getting all the cash they said, but people whose job it is to know this stuff had no clue.

Exaggerating is promising at the next PPV a match that'll rank up there with Flair/Steamboat and delivering HHH/Kane. Saying you're going to get between 200-300% increase in fees and only delivering 30%, delivering only 10% of what the CEO said was a "Sure thing" is pretty close to flat out and out lying as you can get. And it's not as if Vince is some wacky old founder who still has a minor role with the company, he's the CEO! And to top it all off, WWE said that the target number of subscribers to turn a profit on the network was no longer 800K-1M, but now between 1.3-1.5M. So they initially undershot their initial target by close to 50%. It doesn't get much more incompetent than that. You simply can't go around making misleading statements of that magnitude and not expect shareholders to get pissed.

At the same time, of course you're right that Wall Street analysts should've done their own research on the matter. Fuck all I used to figure out the TV fees/Network subscriber targets were complete bullshit was the calculator on my 3 year old Blackberry, so surely someone with decades of experience would have been able to call bullshit early on. I'm the last one to argue for the competency of Wall Street, but to be fair, most of their analysis were based on the assumptions that WWE management was being somewhat honest with them. Clearly that's not what was going on.

I have no idea what was being said on other message boards, but from what I recalls years ago when this was only 1 of many IWC sites I frequented, this one was always amongst the most informed. And even here, a lot of people were parrotting the "Live sportz = DVR proof! NASCAR money!" line that management was feeding everyone.

If the stock falls below $8, I should get mod powerz.

  7. Bullshit. I'm watching GODZILLA TOKYO S.O.S. right now and let me tell you when that little kid made the Mothra symbol out of school desks, and Mothra showed up and gave the "'sup" head nod before flying off to kick Godzilla's ass...well...it got a little dusty in my living room.

To be fair, I haven't seen any after Destroyah, so maybe Toho found a way to make a giant, cotton-consuming insect threatening enough. Maybe.

  8. Someone took a pic of an actor's bio in a stage program and it's, eh, kind of funny and sad at the same time.

Thank God for Liam Neeson movies bringing the diversity.

What's with all these terrorist characters on 8 PM network sitcoms? I mean, Reba? 7th Heaven??
  9. 5. Mothra vs. Godzilla

This is as close as the series came to its Night of the Living Dead. Japanese society being what it is, this movie is a mindboggling and ridiculously courageous swipe at the evils of morally bankrupt capitalism. It is probably the magnum opus of the franchise, but I rank it only as number five because I've never been terribly conviced of Mothra's quality of opposition.

    Thank you.

It's been over 15 years since I saw most of these. Omitting the original because obviously it's the best:

    1) Ghidorah

    2) Vs. MechaGodzilla (1993)

    3) Astro-Monster

    4) Destroy All Monsters

    5) Vs. Gigan (I know, I know, but dude had a buzzsaw. A fucking buzzsaw!)
