Speaking of former Olympic wrestlers,  Gable Stevenson has been removed from the NXT roster.   I would think there is no chance he is going up to the main roster.  So it looks like the great experiment is over as a complete failure.  Not a knock on Gable as there was plenty of incredible amateur wrestlers who could do it in the "professional" set up

I see Gable on the NXT section of WWE.com.

  2. That final stretch once they finished up the commercial breaks was just killer.  I was legitimately concerned for Gable after the sleeper suplex.  He alludes to it in the post-match video, but even before that I thought they would let GUNTHER break the record then run GUNTHER-Gable back with a career vs. title stipulation.

The Steamboat thing is obviously a setup for someone else to answer the challenge. No clue who really fits if they're keeping Punk off the show. Hangman would be a good fit stylistically, but no way he's getting any support in Chicago taking Punk's spot. Wardlow could be dusted off I guess.

I wish FTR weren't paired up with the Bucks so they could do a double strap match with Starks and BIG BILL for Steamboat's honor.

    Is Richie Steamboat healthy?

By that standard, adam Cole was the 3rd best promo in that interminably long segment. Bennett and Taven came off as credible, and Bennett’s delivery was actually pretty strong. Cole came off like he always does; a pubescent trying to sound tough while talking shit on Xbox live. I don’t believe he’s a top guy, and I don’t believe that deep down he believes he’s a top guy. I’ll be curious to see the number he does without MJF to prop him up.

Yeah, I thought Bennett was pretty great there.  Taven had good material but his delivery didn't really match.

No. Rosemont is where the Allstate Arena is. The NOW Arena is in Hoffman Estates.

For an out of stater, I can get to downtown Chicago in an hour and a half just on the expressway. The drive then to Hoffman Estates is 45 minutes of stop and go traffic.

That's right.  I can see the NOW sign in my head, I was just thinking it had replaced the Allstate for some reason.

The only house that isn't drawing well on this run of shows in Chicago is the one that is technically not even in Chicago, and that's the show tonight. They've marked down tickets at the NOW Arena down to $25. FWIW, I still haven't been to this venue, but I do know where it is and it's a pain in the ass to get to on a weekday. The Collision and PPV at the United Center did fine as far as ticket sales go.

    Is that the Rosemont?

My beef is that Punk has halved his potential opponents, and even though it’s a work, only doing business with his friends and supporters kills a lot of intrigue around his programs and matches.

Business could pick up if Chuck E. Smooth is available.

"The Bounty Hunter" Bryan Keith, who is apparently from the Reality of Wrestling promotion in Texas, subbed for the injured Lio Rush and was incredible.  Very good in the ring, no holes in his game, nothing botched, good charisma, just all around a really good wrestler and a pleasant surprise.  I hope to see more of him.  They did a gimmick where he, as the dark horse of the tourney, made it all the way to the semis.  His matches against Masha Slamovich (quarterfinals) and Mike Bailey (semis) were amazing.  Just great.  My only criticism is that he needs to figure out his gear, as he was pulling up his pants a lot.

I'm a big fan of Keith, especially his ability to mesh with multiple styles.  I've seen him take on a number of people in various indies and he always seems to bring his A-game.

It was really funny on I believe Dark Side of the Ring (what was it? Snuka?) where Tony was on there and admitted that in an anecdote. I was like "well, guess it wasn't a secret".

He definitely mentioned it on the JYD episode when he was talking about the parties with their patrons.

It was an accidental chop block to the front of the knee.  If that happened in all sports it would be a serious injury.   A little confused why Damage Cntrl was against Asuka but not important

I read that as "an accidental chop to the front of the knee" and was more amused than I should have been.

Does anyone here use Fite+ and can you tell me more about it?

I'll probably be dropping Honor Club before it renews next month and I was looking at re-upping with either Highspots or IWTV, but I see Fite is $8/month and has GCW, BLP, and Paradigm Pro, among others.

    • Does each company have a good library of older shows available for my subscription?
    • Is the interface decent?
    • Are new shows available for streaming at the $8 rate or is it something like those are actual PPVs and are made available to $8 subscribers later?
    • Any other companies I need to look out for on this service?

    Thanks!

I definitely think the interface is pretty good compared to other streaming services.  New shows for groups like GCW and BLP are free, the only stuff I've noticed being run as PPV has been Impact and Triplemania.  Between Fite+ and IWTV, there's pretty much always something worthwhile to watch live on the weekends and their catalogs are both deep enough to keep you interested.

Bron/Ilja was this week's NXT Banger after last week's one being Dyad vs. Creeds.

That match was pretty crazy.  There were a couple of moments where Bron looked like he was trying to slow Ilja down with a stiff bomb or two.  They both must have been pretty beat up afterwards.  Bron's presentation is SO much better with this delivery than his babyface ways.

Everything about the Coffey vs Stacks and DeAngelo feud has been incredibly goofy with little common sense.  So we are deciding the jail term of Tony in a match first of all.  sure why not.  Then we are supposed to believe that Stacks will lay down to keep his boss in jail so he can become the boss.  After that didn't happen all of the sudden Tony can make his one phone call to call the announcers IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MATCH to tell us it was a swerve.  😅

I'm just glad there was an open telephone at the right time.

Brother? They have different last names!

A friend and I were discussing the show as it went on and during the Underground match he said, "Kemp went so far as to get Gable's last name tattooed on his leg - now that's playing mind games with Thorpe."

When it comes to face tattoos, I can honestly say that Shlak's "Chaos Wheel" face tattoo doesn't look bad and fits his whole aesthetic perfectly.

But is something fitting Shlak's aesthetic a good thing, no matter how on brand?
