  1. Not sure if this has been mentioned but they asked Leno about about this and his response was "“I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe women. You go to Saudi Arabia and you need two women to testify against a man. Here you need 25".

I'm not a fan of Leno's but take that for what its worth.

  2.

Watched Filth last night. Since I'm a huuuuuuuge Irvine Welsh fan (though I haven't read the book) I enjoyed it, but it's a nasty downer of a film that honestly does get really tunnel-visioned by the main character's initial exploits. Welsh's characters are always sociopaths that somehow deep down have a heart of gold; this time he gives us a man who is truly bipolar and quite mad and though he's suffered some real tragedy is also a racist, sexist, homophobic asshole that stomps on the rights and lives of everyone. Welsh's explanation of the character is more interesting than watching his life transpire. But... goddammit, it's a Welsh story, I am obsessed with Scottish dialect, and James McAvoy (who Welsh rightly said looked like he was all of 10 when he walked in for the audition) somehow convincingly turns himself into a 40-year old cop having a high-speed come-apart. Your mileage may vary.

I forgot, but I watched Filth recently as well. It takes a lot for a movie to be as much of a downer as Shame, so bravo Filth, you did it.

I watched this movie when I was sick with the flu. Big mistake as it just made me feel worse.

  3. Man, I don't know. We just had the best ending to RAW in 8 months. Yeah, what happened to The Ascension kind of sucked but they aren't any good. Lets talk about Brock and Sting lol

I understand the enthusiasm but I missed the end because I didn't want to sit through another CenaWinsLOL that was totally telegraphed. It sounds like it was a good ending though

  4.

So we are done pretending that Ascension is going to get something out of this angle right?

    They will.

A Tag Title run in TNA next year.

The funny thing is Viktor and Connor sound like TNA names.

What will they be called? The Risers?

  5. I got the AC Xbox One Bundle on Amazon. I used gift cards to get the out of pocket cost to $199. I also go a fifty dollar Amazon credit for doing so which I flipped into buying Diablo 3. Since then I have bought Shadows of Morridor and Destiny. Nothing like establishing a backlog for a new system right out of the gate.

And JBL saying the guys facing The Ascension "don't even deserve to be in a damn WWE ring" ... why should I fucking care, then? Jesus.

The entire point is the Ascension are claiming to be so great, but facing a bunch of jobbers instead of real tag teams like the Dusts and Usos.

I get the point, but the presentation can be different. WWE has done this for years with guys. New guy comes in, get paired with jobbers and nobodies for a bit, dominate, and then move on to real challenges. The commentators can easily put over the fact of how strong the new team is and how they are simply sending a message to the WWE tag teams. The commentators can talk about the long title reign in NXT and how the team was THE TEAM in NXT and pimp the fact that they already have wins against The Usos and the former WWE tag team champions The Miz and Damien Mizdow. The commentators jobbing those guys out on commentary is pretty damning as people like to repeat what the commentators say and take it from there. Look at the team's Facebook page WWE created last week (?). It's like JBL and the team made 3,000 accounts just to troll the guys.

For the record: I think they completely suck and I am not a fan.

Everything you just said would defeat the point of the current angle.

So is the angle that Ascension claims they are great until they face competition and lose? That feels like it would be the natural course but seems as good as the "losing streak" angles they always do are at getting someone over.

  7. For bad Mania moments, how about the Savage/Crush "falls count anywhere" match at Mania X?  It was WWE's first clumsy attempt at EXTREEEEME and it was god awful.  Instead of a nice, simple FCA match, it was some convoluted Chutes and Ladders bullshit where you had to pin a guy (or just incapacitate him maybe?) and then return to the ring and wait.  If they couldn't get back to the ring in 60 seconds, you won.  Jesus Christ I'm getting confused just typing this.

So instead of the drama of a pinfall, we get the drama of watching the winner stand in the ring for a minute.

IIRC, Savage won by tying Crush to a scaffold so he couldn't get free in time to get back to the ring.  Yep.  The vicious blood feud essentially ended with one man lassoing the other and running away.

In the arena show build to that, the were working various concept matches. I remember them vaguely having an stretcher match at a house show I was at.

Don't get excited. It was the stupid "push them over the white line" BS.

  8. Does Royal Rumble 95 have the least star power of any Rumble match ever? Shawn, Luger, Bulldog, Crush, Backlund and Owen are pretty much it for main event or upper midcard guys. Add onto that Bret Hart attacking Owen and Backlund so each is in the match for no time at all.

Plus 1 minute intervals? That's some bullshit.

I hate hate hate 1 minute intervals. As soon as one guy is in the ring the next guys is coming. Too much.

  9. How is Seth not a mastermind? That's how he's been positioned as for ages now. He put The Shield together. He jumped at the chance for more power when HHH asked him to join his ranks and turned on his brothers. He wormed his way into winning the Money In The Bank, which he coyly still has despite a near-miss at the title. He slid his way into The Authority's top spot and undermined Randy Orton, whom he eventually took out. He led The Authority in Survivor Series and nearly was a Dolph Ziggler miracle away from cementing their grip. He then figured out a way to make Cena give into his demands.

That's pretty great mastermind work right there. He's been nothing short of awesome as a conniving slimebag since The Shield turn.

At least his plans aren't just elaborate ways to hit someone with a sledgehammer.

  10.

Finally saw Under The Skin.  Wanted to say that the creepy music whenever anyone is about to get killed deserves to be on the level of the themes from Psycho or Jaws.  Like you should be able to hum it and people should know what movie you're referencing.

Although I'm also noticing that it bears a strong resemblance to the Warp Whistle from Super Mario 3.

I was going to rent this yesterday and my local vid. store didn't even have it. Bah!  So instead I watched 'Enemy'.   I didn't really like it.

Under the Skin is streaming free on Amazon Prime if you have it.

  11. Watched Starry Eyes last night (not to be confused with Bright Eyes).  That's gotta be one of the top 5 horror movies of the year.  Very good performance from the lead, and the third act, in terms of sheer violence, is right on the level of any of the new wave French extreme horror from the late 2000s.  I was expecting things to get crazy, but not that crazy.

I've seen this on a few top ten lists for horror this year and want to check it out. Did you get it on demand?
