The top match, MS-1/Sangre Chicana, was overwhelming the winner. It had seven #1 votes, two second-place votes and a pair of #3 and #4 votes.

Voters felt that 1984 and 1986 were the overall superior years of footage.

In terms of top wrestlers, among those with five or more matches, the top finishers were Sangre Chicana (4,500 points), Satanico (4,451 points), MS-1 (4,375 points), Hijo Del Santo (4,366 points) and El Dandy (4,070 points).

  2. It always takes a year to finish these sets. We always think it's going to be faster, but it always takes 10-12 months.

We've always had less participating for non-English sets and honestly participation has been downward sloping for years.

Certainly, there was momentum lost when we lost the old board, but the project will continue. I think Portland will regain a ton of interest because that's a lot of stuff which many of us have never seen before.

I predict participation will again explode if we ever do another WWF set or if we do NWA/WCW.

  3. I've been looking at the relationship between wrestler ages and match quality which has led me to assemble lots of lists of wrestler birthdays.

Beyond the obvious (The Harris Boys! Gymini! The Bella Twins! The Usos!), here were some that I noticed:

3/30/1945: SD Jones & Ronnie Garvin

10/20/1958: Fit Finlay & Scott Hall

7/4/1960: Barry Windham & Sid Vicious

11/11/1963 Billy Gunn & Sam Houston

9/29/1970: Stacy Carter (The Kat) & Tajiri

    2/10/1971: Louie Spicolli & Victoria

    3/24/1982: Epico & Jack Swagger

I would support all of these tag teams.

  4. To be clear, I think the original post was from spman on the f4w board. On 3/29/14 he wrote:

So I got a chance to ask Jerry Lawler last night about the staus of the Memphis tapes, and he told me that he's finally got everything worked out and is negotiating the sale to WWE. Of course, the problem with the Memphis footage was not only the complicated question of who owns the rights, but the condition and location of the master tapes.

I would imagine if Lawler hands over what he has, and they acquire whatever might have come out of Corey Maclin's estate, and maybe make deal with Cornette to let them source everything he has, they might have a pretty close to complete library of the top years of that promotion.

Personally I can't wait if this ever materializes, Memphis is by far my favorite of the old territories.

  5. Are there other interesting things out there from lawsuits. Anything in Ventura's or the Charles Austin lawsuit or the WWF suing WCW over Hall and Nash having the WWF mannerisms (which I think would be most interesting) or the Raven independent contractor one?

I've put copies of Wrestler's booking contracts that were part of lawsuits/SEC filings on my website: https://sites.google.com/site/chrisharrington/mookieghana-prowrestlingstatistics/wwe_contracts

Includes Shane, Vince, Linda, Stephanie McMahon and Jim Ross along with Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Kanyon, Mike Sanders, Raven and Ultimate Warrior.

  6. What's the correct definition?

Draw is just an advance against your future paycheck. Essentially, it's upfront money so you can pay road expenses. It's not additive to what you're paid. So, when Sherri made $5,000 w/ $200 draw, that meant she was paid the $200 now and so her future pay for the event would have only been $4,800. In the article (at least in the original version we posted), we treated it like Sherri would have made $5,200 which is bad voodoo wrestlenomics.

  7. Full payoff sheet can be viewed here:

There's not much difference, really.  The unaltered version just has the match rundown at the top of each page.

The original was filed as an exhibit in the Ultimate Warrior/WWE lawsuit(s). You can see the PDF that was in the case originally & the images at https://sites.google.com/site/chrisharrington/mookieghana-prowrestlingstatistics/summerslam1991

And yes, we (author Wooly & I) screwed up the definition of draw in the WhatCulture article. That was a major brainfart on our part we're pretty embarrassed by that. Unfortunately, once the article is published, we can't edit it. So, right now, it stays unchanged. Wooly even got an unsolicited DM on twitter from Colt Cabana explaining the correct definition of a draw which was amusing.

  8. Great piece by @WoolyWoolhouse over at WhatCulture, WWE: 10 Surprising Revelations From The 1991 Summerslam Payroll Sheet

    intro.jpg

It's another fun companion piece to Bix's great piece about the Ultimate Warrior in the latest issue of FSM. The payroll for the event was one of the exhibits in the lawsuit which Bix was chronicling.

EDIT: And I totally screwed up the DRAW concept so ignore that part, but the rest is true.

  9. Kanyon, Sanders, Raven were challenging over the independent contractor thing

From the link provided in the post.

In October 2008, as part of WWE's response to the lawsuit, the booking contracts for all three wrestlers were included as exhibits of WWE's motion to dismiss.

I am assuming Borash's might have come out as part of the TNA vs. WWE lawsuit. Or... Borash had to file suit to collect unpaid royalties.

Since Chris didn't specify on that one - I am just guessing there

The Borash contract was part of the Sonny Onoo Discrimination lawsuit. Part of Onoo's claim has to deal with how he was in a gray area since he was doing consulting for Turner -- he worked in their office, on their computer, sometimes had to deal with them for some medical stuff -- this was part of his claim that he clearly wasn't an independent contractor. The Borash contract was an exhibit in the trial.

  10. I updated my website with some additional WCW & WWE Contracts if anyone is curious.

    https://sites.google.com/site/chrisharrington/mookieghana-prowrestlingstatistics/wwe_contracts

Corporate Officers (SEC Filings): Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, Paul Levesque (Triple H), Stephanie McMahon, Jim Ross

Booking Contracts from Lawsuits: Brock Lesnar (2003), Chris Kanyon (2002), Mike Sanders (2001), Raven (2000), Ultimate Warrior (1987), Ultimate Warrior (1992), Ultimate Warrior (1996), Jeremy Borash, Sonny Onoo

Good companion material to the new Fighting Spirit Magazine article (Issue 104) all about the Ultimate Warrior-WWE lawsuit(s) by Bix.

  11. Id be curious to see the markets run by cena tour vs bryan tour. If cena shows are consistantly the larger markets, it would stand to reason that they would draw better.

    Sounds like a mookieghana project.

I already explored this in depth: http://indeedwrestling.blogspot.com/2014/02/wwe-live-events-daniel-bryan-versus.html

I adjusted for size of the cities.  Cena tours were off about 140 from the city averages while Bryan tours were off about 670.  If both guys were on the show, they were up about 750.
