  1. Have you ever wanted to know what it takes to become a professional wrestler in the biggest promotion in Japan? This video shows exactly what exactly happens in a daily training session. From back bridges, to push-ups, to downright difficult looking exercises. Those who train in Japan are taught to be tough and to be well disciplined, and with these young talents at the time working closely under the late Kotetsu Yamamoto in 2002 they are indeed pushed to their limits. The talent involved are Naofumi Yamamoto 山本尚史 (Yoshi Tatsu), Ryusuke Taguchi 田口隆祐 , Shinsuke Nakamura 中邑真輔 & Hiroshi Nagao 長尾浩志.

Nakamura is now one of top wrestlers in Japan, Yamamoto/Yoshi Tatsu is now in WWE and Taguchi is still about, but what ever happened to Nagao?

  2. What are the best sources to watch current Joshi online? Any specific YouTube or Daily Motion channels I need to follow or anything?

YouTube is your best bet. Channels like JoshiHub, Joshi Shows and purowookie upload a lot of the new stuff as well as classics. And there are plenty of other channels that have the essential Joshi matches.

  3. Just saw another match with Io Shirai (sadly very clipped) and I think that I love her. Since I had never watched Joshi before it is odd for me (a wrestling fan of 25 years) to suddenly be 'discovering' new wrestlers that have probably been entertaining for years but I just knew nothing about. What don't you Joshi people do a better job at pimping this stuff? You're all fired. :P

Hey, I've been doing my absolute darndest to get more people to check out Joshi, they just never seemed interested...

  4. What freaky athletic spots was KENTA ever doing in the first place? Seems like his calling has always been aggressive, stiff, strike based matches and he is no less capable of those now. Not that that style really has a place in WWE, but if there was ever a time to bring him in it's definitely now.

Aside from that leap from the mat to the top rope he used to do in his junior days, nothing out of the ordinary.

  5. Ten years ago KENTA in WWE would have made some sense. Don't really see the point in bringing him in now---he's bigger, sure, but also older and banged up, and not the motivated freaky athletic guy he was in his prime. He doesn't have any of the buzz he did back when he was still a Jr. and was every US indy fan's favourite wrestler. Then again that description sounds an awful like Benoit and Eddy and Danielson around the time Vince started pushing them, so maybe the time is right for KENTA in WWE.

If they were really gonna pick up a free agent from Japan and feud him with Bryan for the title though I wish they'd just bring in Devitt.

Devitt is going to WWE, though. And KENTA is still in very good shape and motivated.

  6. I'm tired of the modern joshi style being shit on. What exactly is wrong with it? If you say too many big moves and spots then don't because 90's Joshi had A LOT of that too. Kana is very shoot and mat-based but in a way she's a female KENTA (and I'm a huge fan of his) in how she doesn't always know when and how to sell offense correctly and in doing so makes her opponents look weak when they aren't supposed to.

I'm gonna have to know why you think Arisa, Io and Yoshiko are inconsistent workers because I'd say they are the most consistent going today, and even when they don't have GOOD matches, they're hardly bad.

Saying only one wrestler is worth watching in an already weak niche of wrestling that struggles to gain new fans is not good, and is only going to scare people who are interested in modern joshi away. Watching modern joshi expecting it to be like what it was in the 90's isn't realistic nor fair. The scene is completely different now. Demographics change, styles change, etc.

  7. If NOAH were to fold I wonder where KENTA would wind up...

I've always wondered if NJPW would take him in if that were to happen. He'd probably have to be a junior again since their heavyweight division is pretty stacked and he's only 5'8", but the talent is pretty much all in the heavy division. I wouldn't want to see him just carry guys like the Young Bucks to half-decent matches.

Maybe AJPW would be more likely since he was originally with them pre-NOAH exodus. Maybe he'd even just retire...

  8. I'd throw Kana in there (if we're including joshi), though she probably couldn't get past.... eh, Santino Marella? Sharkboy? That Cheeseburger dude from RoH? But, yeah, she had a better year than most people who will be in the tourney.

I'm not showing up for March Madness, btw, so don't expect me to vote for her. The tourney's reputation precedes it. I'll pass. Arguing with people on the internet over whether Harry Smith has better punches than CM Punk doesn't appeal to me much.

Arisa Nakajima and Io Shirai also had great years in the Joshi circuit. But there's no way they'd even get picked.

  9. The Yamada vs Toyota Hair match hasn't stood the test of time, wrestling-wise. IMO there was some sloppy work between the two and some questionable selling. But only a Korakuen crowd could've made this match what it was. The heat was insane and made this match an emotional affair, and a classic.

  10. Happy Meiko finally won the award after she was snubbed of it by Aikawa the past two years, but the fact that GAMI and that Saki Akai girl were nominated yet Arisa and Io were ignored just shows Tokyo Sports shouldn't be taken seriously.
