  1. my recommendation is to pick a few characters you're interested in (for example, Batman) and then read some solo stories (ex. Year One) and some group stories with them as the main focus (ex. Tower of Babel).  Find out what kind of stuff you enjoy reading, and go from there.

P.S. Anything with Alan Moore is also highly recommended.

  2. while it has no bearing on either man's career, or the future of the weight class, or really any relevance whatsoever, i've always been interested in Rampage/Tito. i think it is a solid co-main for whatever title fight they decide to headline their debut PPV with.

also, the Alvarez bit was my first reaction to PPV also. Here's hoping this proves his point and he gets freed up to do whatever he wants to do.

  3. Guessing the reaction was something when Grant Morrison introduced Damian Wayne to continuity? I liked him after reading my first issue with him in it, Batman and Robin (Vol. 1) #1 and in the Morrison Batman books after that. A brooding smart arse. It was something reading Batman & Son seeing where Damian Wayne began having previously read the developments he makes.

Damian was pretty much universally hated (at least on the forums i visited). when Bruce "died", there were unanimous votes of people who wanted to see it revealed that Damian wasn't really his son and that he just go away forever.

fast forward a couple years, and these very same forums and fans preach about how DC "never should have killed Damian", "he's the best character they've had in years", and so on and so forth. I think i've gotten just about as much fun from seeing the complete 180 in the opinions as i have from reading the books themselves.

  4. god damn is Dick/Damian the greatest ever version of the dynamic duo.

so much this. i know it was always meant as a short term deal, but MAN did we get suckered out of the best thing they could've possibly done with the franchise.

Or maybe it's because i'm a Grayson fanboy.

I didn't read this run, but what are they doing with Dick Grayson now? I'm curious.

as Fowler said, he's back to being Nightwing. the series started off a bit slow, but has become very good since Dick moved to Chicago (#19). Can't wait for the Annual in October to see the next direction for him.

  5.

i'm planning on starting up the Monday Night Wars the night after 'Mania 13 and watching both shows every week. I know that 7-8 months away, and who knows what will happen, but i honestly can't think of a better way to spend my Monday Nights.

You should pick up Raw a little bit before then (maybe February or so of '97). The Austin rise, Bret's slow turn, Shawn losing his smile... it's a surreal run of TV.

thanks for the head's up, maybe i'll kick it off around the turn of the year. that gives me a reason to watch the 'mania build as well.

  6. Just finished Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Strikes Again".  Wow.  i must not have been reading comics when this was released because I've never read it before and didn't remember it even was a thing until last week.  I didn't quite hate it, but it's definitely not good either.  I fairly enjoyed books 1 and 2, but, taken as a whole, it reads like Miller plotted it as he wrote the scripts.  I really didn't get a sense of the world beyond Miller telling us it's a dystopia.  Too many events happen without any buildup or explanation why they're happening, and a lot of plot elements seem thrown in because Miller wanted to write a scene a certain way or needed something to advance the plot in a certain direction.

my dad got DKSA for me quite a while ago, probably when it was first released in trade. the artwork is atrocious and the storyline isn't even existant. after reading this, i waited years before i would even attempt DKR. polar opposites, there.

and Outsider, Batman '66 doesn't fit anywhere. i'd say pre-New Look would be the best place for it, but since it's just started, you may as well wait on it. the actual comics from '66 get pretty serious pretty quick. i think '68 is when it really turns the corner, so the '66 book would feel out of place real fast.

  7. since early March/late February, i've been watching WCW Nitro 1996 on Monday Nights instead of following Raw (which i fell out of love with years ago). The dates line up perfectly (i.e. i watched 7/22/96 on Monday, 7/22/13). i am watching them at 7pm SHARP, right when they aired live, and i'm having an absolute blast. It has actually rekindled my love of wrestling that died out over the last few years. Most weeks i also catch WCW Saturday Night, although i watch that at some point over the weekend, and don't adhere so strictly to the start time.

  8. i would read an ongoing Human Torch series. the original android, not the Johnny Storm version.

was the reaction to "Fear Itself" pretty terrible? i really liked it (like i do most major events) but they usually seem to upset everybody. Probably due to me not following the monthly titles.

  9. I certainly recommend Grant Morrison's Batman run which Brian talked about. Make sure you read it in order:

    Batman and Son

    The Black Glove

    R.I.P.

    Batman and Robin: Batman Reborn

Batman and Robin: Batman vs. Robin

    Time and the Batman

    The Return of Bruce Wayne

Batman and Robin: Batman and Robin Must Die

    Batman, Incorporated (Vol. 1)

    Batman, Incorporated (Vol. 2)

I know "Battle for the Cowl" falls in after RIP, but does it include any of the titles Natural mentioned?

Battle for the Cowl is placed inbetween RIP and Batman & Robin: Reborn. It's a self contained 3 issue mini-series. It's not written by Morrison, and isn't anything special, but i liked it, and pretty important as far as the storyline goes.

  10. i only buy two print books every month: Nightwing and Batgirl.

i also am absolutely in LOVE with Batman '66.

last year, i started reading the batman comics from the beginning. i must say, when they finally introduced the "New Look" Batman in 1964, it was amazing. and having read the O'Neal/Adams stuff for the last month or two, this is by far the best Batman to date. so many awesome ideas/characters/everything else that they added.
