  1. Talon doesn't really have very good sales, so a cancellation wouldn't surprise me.

as far as Snyder goes, i dig a lot of his stuff. Black Mirror being the peak, but Gates of Gotham and Court of Owls were both really great too. Death of the Family was good throughout, but the ending just didn't do much for me. felt very anti-climactic.

haven't even started on Zero Year, waiting for all the issues to be out before i start reading.

i am not joking when i say that my favorite DC book is "Batman '66". it is pitch perfect, clever, and legitimately fun.

  2. i'm interested to see what all random little events that the UFC owns the rights too. EliteXC? Battlecade? Affliction? i hope so on all accounts because there's some gems in there

  3. batman forever remains my personal favorite batman movie ever. followed by TDK.

on the opposite end of the spectrum, batman&robin is the most vile batshit ever. DKR would be second worst.

fuck it. list time. my favorite batmovies. not best, just favorite:

    Batman Forever

    The Dark Knight

    Batman (1966)

    Batman Begins

    Batman (1989)

    Batman Returns

    Dark Knight Rises

    Batman & Robin

  4. SO glad i watched the event this morning without reading spoilers.

the main was absolute insanity and i loved every damned second of it.

the Shogun KO was just brutal. especially the punch afterwards.

Bader dominated and showed why he's "the guy" to beat en route to a title shot.

who saw Soa Palelei winning that fight? biggest shocker to me.

  5. Midnight Express pretty much has to be Van Halen, right?

originally a kick ass group (Condrey/Eaton-Roth), then a main member left and they came back still awesome yet different entirely (Eaton/Lane-Hagar), then they tried to reinvent themselves and it was just terrible (NEW Midnight Express-VH3). Finally the originals get back together and while it's good, it never recaptures that magic.

  6. hot on the heels of buying a Wii-U, i have also (finally) picked up a 3ds (XL). the Zelda game put it over the top for me. What does everyone recommend with that? the only games on my "must-have" list are Kid Icarus and Mario 3D Land. keep in mind that i never owned a regular DS either, so all those games are fair play.

  7. After carefully weighing my options, I've chosen my console for the next generation of video games:

I bought an N64 with eight games off a friend of mine that needed to clear out their apartment.

POKEMON STADIUM/SNAP- I don't have a good term for this idea, so here comes a clunky one: I'm a big believer in "ideal playthroughs." If a game is single player, typically, I'll want one good run with a game so I have some lasting memory of it and then I'm pretty much good, without any need to play any sequels. I had that with Pokemon Silver, and so I've been done with Pokemon for a long time. So playing Pokemon Stadium was a pretty good reminder of why I'm glad I had that one playthrough: the combat alone wasn't enough of a game to hold me. On the flipside is Pokemon Snap, which is an idea so very close to amazing that it's unfortunate Nintendo's never gone back to it. That PS3 game Afrika was the mechanical execution free of any of the charm or personality, which are things that the Pokemon art style is best at. A new Pokemon Snap might be a breaking point between me and getting a Wii U.

OCARINA OF TIME- Always hated zelda, 2D or 3D. I just never had fun with it. So since I'm waiting for the first of January to start buying more games (Gauntlet Legends wooo!) this is doing for now, plus I'm glad for the opportunity to have time with the game without severe expense. So far, it's OK. The dialog comes apart in some weird places (I keep expecting Link to go "I'M LIKE FIVE YEARS OLD, WHY DO I NEED TO DO THIS") but at least that's good for a laugh so I'm still enjoying my time with it.

WCW/nWo WORLD TOUR- Back on that ideal playthrough thing, I spent a lot of time with Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 through 300% Absoultely Legal Means, and before that all of my Aki Wrestling Game memories were tied to Wrestlemania 2000. So I'm having a weird time with this one. Like, it's the game I played, kind of, but it just feels... wrong. It's like I had a dream about this game and now that I'm playing it nothing is the way it should be.

SUPER MARIO 64- is still this game. I got all the stars on the DS version (i know (i know)) so I'm not having a strong pull with this one.

I also got Starfox 64, Star Wars Shadows Of The Empire, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I don't intend to ever play any of them.

fantastic selection of games. the n64 is my 2nd favorite system of all time (behind only the NES) and i love every game you listed here (except Pokemon Stadium).  World Tour was my introduction to AKI games and it'll always hold a soft spot in my heart.

for future games, start with Goldeneye and also pick up Mario Kart, NBA Hangtime, Smash Bros, and Donkey Kong 64, and you pretty much have my entire teenage years.

  8. It may have been slated by critics and hated by many wrestling fans, but I nonetheless find Ready to Rumble to be a charming, fun movie. Could have done without Arquette winning the WCW title afterwards, but never mind.

i figured this was a given, being that this is a wrestling board and all, but this was the first thing i thought of too.

One of my favorite movies ever is "the Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space. it was made-for-TV movie by the crew that also did the Hercules and Xena tv shows. It's super cheesy, much like an updated '66 Batman. It boasts Ron Perlman, Liz Vassey, and Nichelle Nichols as members of its cast.

it's not commercially available anywhere, but i found it at Cinemageddon a couple years ago, so check it out if you're interested.

also, Bring It On and Clueless are 2 of my favorite '90s comedies. and anybody that hates Clue should be shot. or hit with a candlestick. by the butler. or Mrs. Peacock. in the study.

  9. finally broke down and bought a Wii-U.

had some friends over to play it last night, had a blast. Mostly played Super Mario Bros. U (this and the Luigi U game came with the system) but also played a bunch of NintendoLand minigames.

can't wait for Friday and Mario 3D World!

  10.

Askren's response to the Hieron criticisms:

    Ben Askren

To anyone who points to my Jay Heiron WIN to discredit my abilities consider this. At that point I was LESS than 3 years into my career and relatively inexperienced despite already being the Bellator Champion. I had a tough fight against the #16 ranked fight in the world(at the time) and was able to get the job done. I have learned and progressed significantly since then.

As a point of reference the man fighting for the WW UFC Belt this weekend Johny Hendricks LOST a Unanimous Dec fight to Rick Story(who wasn't near the top 16 at that point) after fighting for MORE than 3 years.

Moral of story high level wrestlers progress rapidly through their career. Despite my inexperience at the time I was able get the job done against a high level experienced fighter. I am significantly better than I was then and will continue to get the job done against any WW put in front of me.

in what world is Jay Hieron ranked #16 in the world but a Rick Story who had won 4 in a row in the UFC isn't near that?

moral of the story i like Askren even less now for putting someone else down to attempt to build himself up.

  11. background: i work in an electronics store.

had a lady yell at me today for not selling her an X-Box One.

despite it not having released yet, and despite not actually getting any yet. She was furious and said that she knows of "numerous other people that got them here".

  12.

i really want to completely skip this movie

I'm not sure I should even ask....  but why?

two main things. i didn't really enjoy the (first) Man of Steel movie, and there's pretty much no way that i can see Ben Affleck as Batman.  with those two points, there's next to no chance of me enjoying this one, so figured it's just better to pass on it.
