  1. The problem with drafting a DEF early is that they are so damnably difficult to figure out which one will be high scoring. Picking Seattle was a no brainer the last two years, but that hasn't always been the case. There's a lot of variance. Those who pick up a DEF weekly are just as likely to hit on the best DEF of the year as someone who picked the first DEF of the draft.

While you are holding on to an underperforming DEF that you drafted in the 6th, I'm picking up a KC and rolling in points while I have a higher value WR3 to boot. Furthermore, I seldom have to burn a bench spot on a second DEF for bad matchups & bye weeks, and can hoard RBs and breakout WRs.

If a bunch of guys in your league are streaming DEFs, it can be tough, but there are usually 3-4 good options week to week. I still like this strategy more than the draft early & hold.

  2. The Packers fan in me is sad we're not going to play Teddy, who looks to be an exciting talent.

The Vikings hater in me is gleeful at the prospect of beating up Ponder for 4 quarters. Do we know anything about Chandler Harnish, the 4th string QB? His name sounds like a headline, "hedge fund executive Chandler Harnish accused of rape."

  3. Am I nuts for considering starting Brian Hoyer in my flex spot over Tom Brady? I mean, Hoyer's been good but (until now) Brady has always been one of those guys you never ever consider benching.

I can't say ROS, but Brady looks like hell right now. This week CLE has TEN and NE has CIN, so I think that's a no brainer.

In a QB Flex league, who isn't rostered right now that's starting?

  4. Is there a reason he wants to go to trial? Or is this just posturing before the inevitable plea deal?

Taking a plea seems to be the best course of action for everyone involved. Say he settles this around the second week of October, does the NFL give him 6 games? Or will it be more?

  5. I'm not going to defend pro wrestling's history, but, at present, there's no frigging way WWE would tolerate a main eventer doing half the shit many NFL guys do.

You get caught assaulting your girlfriend or arrested on gun charges, it's a big deal. As opposed to the NFL, where no one seems terribly bothered about it until TMZ release footage.

I have to agree with you. The company is so allergic to that sort of press that they would drop the guy so fast it would make your head spin. I do think if the party in question was a talent that could draw money, they would bring him/her back after a spell on the indies.

  6. Something like "I'll give you something to cry about?"

Man, whoever created that phrase for parents to continue to use is a dick.

I've found myself wanting to say this more than once when one of my kids are throwing a tantrum.

I totally agree about the college system-- put these guys into the minors to develop them as players and people.

Do pro baseball and hockey players have the maturity/arrest issues that NFL players do?

  7. A deeper question: is there a moral component in FF?

I'm in a league with a bunch of of dads, and someone dropped Peterson after the news broke, saying that even if he played this year, he didn't want him on his team. A few guys chimed in to say they agreed.

I don't really agree, since a spot on a FF roster doesn't give Peterson anything in return. He's simply representative of numbers on a computer screen. However, it would feel weird rooting for a guy to do well while you should want him to fail.

I put in a claim for Peterson today-- if I get him, are all these guys going to think I'm a dick?

  8. The only thing going right for me so far today is that one of you idiots started Jake Locker against me in the DVDVR cash league

    That would be me.

The matchup looked good. I didn't trust Romo after last week, not that he did better.

Next year, I'll be drafting a QB a little earlier.

  9. Both Hardin and Montgomery Co. will kick the can down the road until things blow over, and then let him plea to something.

The NFL has to act now-- the usual "let the courts decide" shit won't fly right now, especially if Goodell doesn't want to become toxic.

  10. It's hard not to start Bush until we get a bit more clarity on the Ravens backfield.

If you're PPR, then Bush for sure, if Standard, then Forsett if you feel like rolling the dice. RBs traditionally do well on Thursdays, but we don't know who's going to get the bulk of the carries in BAL. If your gut is telling you Forsett will have a big game, go for it. If you feel queasy about it, then Bush.

Just my opinion. I'm not buying in on BAL's backfield this year, it's starting to smell like CLE 's last year.

  11. While I question his ability to run a sports franchise because of what has become of the Sabres, I can at least rest assured that I will have a team to get irrationally angry at.

I think your anger towards the Bills is completely rational.

  12. Boy everyone is trying to sneak in their news now.

Besides the Penn State thing - NJ just announced it was going to allow sports betting.

AND YOU HAVE A NEWS STORY TO BURY!

AND YOU HAVE A NEWS STORY TO BURY!

...and in other news, the Air Force announced that there have been aliens held at Area 51 for the past 60 years. We'll be back after this with more information about the Ray Rice case.

  13.

And Lord - is the recap obsessed with the fact that I drafted a rookie kicker

    For everyone's enjoyment:

Sir Phillip Rippa decided to draft the rookie kicker of the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, he drafted the wrong rookie kicker, and got the back up who didn't see the field today. Even more humorously, another person drafted the actual starting kicker for the Eagles just 8 spots ahead of when Rippa picked his.

Not only did he draft the wrong guy, he then proceeded to ignore football for the rest of the week and start him today.

  14. After last night's game, anyone who didn't pick the Seahawks to win the Superbowl again (Peter King) is kicking themselves.

I'm not sure how worried to be about our Pack-- are we going to struggle this year, or is Seattle just that good?
