Stroudsburg, PA? Really? I mean, start a gym wherever you want, but it's not exactly an epicenter of fight training now is it?

As someone originally from the area, that was my first thought. Then, I thought about it a little more. Eastern PA has a lot of high level collegiate (and high school) wrestling. Stroudsburg is essentially the midpoint of a lot of major things. It looks super weird on paper, but it looks like a sneaky decent spot to run a gym and save some money doing it.

I have a question, did either of you watch that fight in a place you could hear the impact of the punches?  If you did I don't know how you could think Frankie won.  When they exchanged, Frankie missed more than he connected, and when he did connect his punches didn't seem to have much impact.  When Aldo's punches landed, you could see and hear just how hard those punches were connecting.  Doing more doesn't really mean anything, the rules state that fights should be judged on effective striking and effective grappling.  Edgar was busier, but he was not nearly as effective as Aldo.  Edgar was outclassed by one of the 5 best MMA fighters of all time.  There is not a single aspect of MMA where Frankie was the superior fighter on Saturday night.  He was just busy, which means absolutely nothing.

I watched it alone in my media room. Admittedly, I was pretty hungover. I don't want it to sound like I thought Edgar was taking it to Aldo during the first 3 rounds. Not trying to put all my eggs in the "significant strikes" basket, either. It's just one of those weird scoring quirks, for me. By the end of the fight, it was clear that Edgar wasn't landing with power and Aldo was. The problem is that I didn't have that information after R1. I just saw Edgar pushing the pace for the entire round and landing a comparable amount of strikes. I felt like that the first two rounds, with the 3rd round looking like Aldo was starting to find himself. At that point, I realized that Edgar was frustrated and Aldo was just overpowering him. If I were judging the fight as a whole, I give it to Aldo, no question.

I  had Edgar winning. 4 to 1, 3 to 2 at worst. I don't see how you give Aldo 4 of those rounds.

I don't want you on an island by yourself. I actually had Edgar 3-2. To me, his activity in those first 3 rounds was enough to give him the edge. With that said, I think Aldo won the fight. Seemed like Frankie knew it, too. There was never a point where I thought the judges would agree with me, though.

Fuck. So close to the event too. Will UFC be looking for a replacement? If not, at least the show already had a great co-main event in Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship which can be made THE main event.

Obviously Cerrone is the big name right now. Frankie is a no-go. He could give Nate Diaz a beating and I'd be OK with that.

  5. I had Weidman in the 1st, Rockhold the 2nd. I thought Weidman was winning in the 3rd up until the kick. Rockhold had slowed down a lot at that point and Chris was starting to land a lot more. Rockhold did not like those body kicks. I thought Weidman was going to control the fight from that point. Seeing the way Rockhold was moving after the fight, that certainly wasn't going to help if that wheel kick doesn't happen.

  6. How hard is to not smoke weed before a fight? He knows he is gonna get tested. So yeah, I think he deserves the 5 years.

To be fair, two of the tests were under the limit. The 3rd test has a nonsense result. That's the real issue in all of this. If he had 3 tests that were off the charts, then you should get five years for your third offense. There's a lot of evidence that he didn't really do anything wrong this time.

  7. Hendricks also thought he broke his hand. He was heading into Round 3 knowing he won the fight, barring a KO, and he still took him down 4 more times. It's not an upset from an overall talent standpoint. I think Condit is pretty clearly one of the 5 best Welterweights in the world. The problem is, I'm not sure he has an avenue to victory against Hendricks. He has never shown the ability to stop those takedowns. The stats on the fight might be tight, but if he's taking him down a few times per round, it won't matter what Condit does. You can't overcome that on the cards. He needs a finish, which likely isn't the easiest proposition against someone who has never been finished before.

I think Condit beating Hendricks would be a pretty sizable upset.

The first fight was a 29-28 score, Hendricks clearly won, but it wasn't a one sided fight.  If they fought again I wouldn't be surprised if it was a close fight the other way.  Carlos Condit is a very good fighter who has only been stopped once since 2006 and it was because of injury.  Beating him in a five round fight is going to be incredibly dificult for anyone in the world at 170.  I'm not saying these dudes can't beat him, but he's competitive against everyone in the division.

Hendricks was 12 for 15 in takedowns, 4 for 5 in each round. That shit ain't changing.

  9. The only guy Condit should really be worried about is Hendricks. I think he'd still be favored in a re-match with Woodley, particularly if it was scheduled for 5 rounds. It's also a pretty easy sell for the UFC. Obviously a Condit/Rory rematch is easy to sell. He needs some things to break the right way, but he could easily line himself up with a title eliminator. Would it really surprise anyone if Condit jumped Woodley in the pecking order?

NBK's knee looks 100% and he is back to murdering guys instead of trying to earn decisions.

Even so, calling for a title fight after beating a #12 ranked fighter after being out for a 14 months messes with my MMAth.  I am not sure how that win makes him a #1 contender no matter how convincing it was.

What else should he say? I'd really like a shot at Tim Means if he gets through Matt Brown?

    Yes

"There are a lot of competitors out there and I am going to show them who the real man is."

There are tough guy ways to spin, "I need a tune up fight or two before I take a title shot."

He's ranked 4th! You don't start calling out guys below you if you are ranked 4th. If I were Condit, I'd be talking mad shit on Rory. He's 31 and has 38 fights under his belt. He's not trying to fight Neil Magny as a Fight Pass main event. Matt Brown, Demian Maia, Robbie Lawler if he loses. Those are the options.

  12. Bader's going to go ahead and take full advantage of this windfall, and he should.  Bader is in the unique position of being on a win streak when everyone else is on a losing streak or suspended.  Bader can't beat Gustafsson, Cormier, Jones, and proably Johnson, but he smashes everyone else.  If I was him I would put on a suit, sunglasses, and start cutting promos like Ric Flair.  This is his shot, and he seems to be 100% prepared to take advantage of it.

Are you serious? Ryan Bader doesn't smash anyone. His last KO win was Jason Brilz in 2011.

  13. I think I'm just irrationally a fan of Jacare getting the next shot. Rockhold's Vitor loss slides him behind Jacare for me. Although, that goes directly against my normal ranking theory. So ignore everything I've said, Rockhold makes total sense and I'm an idiot.

  14. I guess Jacare/Romero exists on 184 if Belfort has to pull out. Sliding Jacare in is simple. I really don't want to see Rockhold jump the line if Jacare wins here. Do you really think if Belfort gets the ax they'd go to Rockhold over Jacare?

  15. Jacare vs. Yoel Romero at UFC 184

Looks like Thatch will fight Wonderboy Thompson instead of Rick Story on the Broomfield card

I was really hoping for Jacare/Rockhold 2 but this should be a much easier path for Jacare to get a title shot.

    Rockhold gets the Machida/Dollaway winner?

  16. A scary thought popped into my head while watching this past episode: Gemma may kill Abel since he now knows what really happened to Tara. I'm being at some point he ends up telling Wendy and that gets her offed too.

Hope it doesn't happen and I'm wrong, but it kinda makes sense given all the talking to herself to justify what she did.

No way. She would definitely rather die than kill her grandson.
