  1.

I didn't realise Maxine was in Lucha Underground - another reason for me to fuck this RAW shit off for a bit and watch something new. But anyway, my spreadsheet says NXT Redemption was awesome.

  2. Konnor at least fits the part reasonably. Viktor looks like he's cosplaying or something, though. Totally inauthentic.

If their work was good, they could overcome it, though. Bill Eadie looked only somewhat less goofy in his costume than Tobias Fünke did in his "Discipline Daddy" getup, but his work was so good that it didn't matter in the end.

I've said it before, but the Ascension's problem is no Bram/Kenneth (and to a certain extent no Shaul Guerrero). They would have been better shoehorning Adrian Neville into the gimmick than Rick Victor.

  3. There was an announcement before the match that it would likely go very long and that the wrestlers were cool with people leaving. That said, I heard that they decided to cut the match short after about 30 minutes as they didn't think the crowd was with them enough to go three hours. It would have made the DVD a 2 disc set as well, whereas going 74m they cut entrances and squeezed the whole show under 3 hours.

  4. I really hope that they'll avoid lots of old men spectacles and just do the big tag: Cena/Taker/Sting vs HHH/Kane/Show could actually be really great - maybe even throw in a 'man who eats the pinfall retires' stip (if Kane is done lol). Throw in a special guest ref (Batista if he can do it, Flair, Austin, whoever) and you've got a great semi-main that can go 30 minutes and let the rest of the card breathe.

  5. E&C's comedy routine was a heel thing, it doesn't work as babyfaces.

Sasha is obviously getting brought up with Charlotte, and deservedly so. I'd say Cameron should be worried, if she wasn't valuable on Total Divas - they might work as a team with Sasha bringing the workrate and Cameron bringing......what she brings.

  6. So Ryback's gimmick is that he eats negativity and then turns it into  a positive? So he has shits full of positivity which I assume he then consumes to gain it's positive energy? Or does he have some sort of genetically evolved internal organ that does this converting?

The Yes Men have you covered:

  7. That's right, my bad. He's talked about this for quite some time, though - always denies it when it hits the news, however. Some Tea Party people tried to get him to run this year, but he declined. He's ALWAYS talked about it, but I think his views are too extreme, even for the Bible Belt.

He is a full on no-state Rothbardian - well I say that, he may not be so much into giving land back to the decendants of slaves who effectively homesteaded it (as Rothbard was). That said, a Glenn Jacobs/Azealia Banks ticket could certainly be interesting.

  8. But the whole main story arc that just ended was all about "What will you do to get ahead?" Sami refused to cheat and it cost him time and time again. But he kept true to himself and now has the belt.

"Whatever It Takes" means so many different things to each character. Tyler Breeze and Tyson Kidd are conniving pricks who will do anything to get ahead. Neville is smug and overly confident and has those shades of grey -- but he still sees a line not to cross and will condemn people who cross that line.

What I love about Owens -- and I hope they play this up -- is he cut the line. He took advantage of both Sami's good nature, celebratory mood and physical weakness so he could get ahead way faster than his peers. A lot of people are kayfabe more deserving of title shots just from being there a lot longer. Owens now has that spot because he tried to decapitate the newly crowned, trusting champion when he was completely vulnerable.

That is a heel move. If you hated Neville for bending the rules, you have to detest Owens for his actions. Just because there is a clear motivation -- You got here ahead of me and I am jealous of all you have obtained -- doesn't make him a good person. It just makes him a good character.

I'm not saying it wasn't an effective storyline, but Adrian Neville wasn't full heel and neither is Owens. In my view, Neville came off very unconvincing criticising Owens. Owens may do heel things, but he will struggle to get heel heat when, like it or not, there is an underlying narrative that it is basically okay to do whatever you need to do. I'm not saying you need to have out and out heels that the crowd treats as such, I'm just saying NXT doesn't have them. Tyler is way over with the crowd, and Tyson kinda is (though he is probably closest to getting a true heel reaction).
