  1. Went back and watched the Sandman crucifixion angle last night.  I haven’r seen or thought about it since the early 2000’s and I take my faith much more seriously now than I probably did back then. Eh, still not offended. It’s tasteless and deliberately provocative, but there’s no intent to piss off Catholics, per se. They were trying to be edgy and shock viewers in general.  I doubt anyone closely involved was devout - Stevie Richard’s & Blue Meanie are Catholic & Richard’s was unhappy with the angle, but they didn’t have creative control & apparently didn’t know what was going to happen until it did - so meh. Paul E. tried about 100 ways to generate controversy.  This is no worse than some of the other things he pulled. I think it’s tasteless & low class, but I don’t feel outraged.  I do wonder if I’d feel different my middle-aged self saw it fresh 20 years ago. I’m a more serious Catholic than I was then, and society has managed to push the envelope a lot further on the past 20+ years. I’ll save my anger for people trying to launch serious attacks on my faith. Sadly, Joe Biden has done a lot more to mock my faith than Paul E. ever has.

On one hand, the bump Tony took from the punch was probably not good

On the other hand, wrestlers should be portrayed as being able to knock out non-wrestlers with body blows

It’s going to be really impressive when Tony goes from being floored by a punch to the gut to beating the stuffing out of Perry en route to pinning him at the next ppv - all in the space of a month or two.  Found out about the closing angle via mainstream media this am - lol, that was a surprise - and now I have so many questions.  I mean, they’re mostly silly questions, but still….

Does this lead to some sort of gimmick match at a ppv?  And does Tony win?  (Answer: he’s a carny.  Of course he wins).

Does TK book himself over Okada by dq en route to the blowoff with Perry?  Okada being the gate keeper Khan goes thru to get to Perry might break some brains.

Who appears with Tony in the training montage meant to convince us that Tony can go from hero to zero in one ppv cycle?  Hangman?  Moxley?

More importantly, Does Tony license “Eye of the Tiger” for his training skits?  He’s a damn fool if he doesn’t.

Does he follow Rule 105 of wrestling booking and book a heel turn for himself before the angle is over even though that would probably make no sense?

It took TK almost five years to join Vince in the exclusive club of Wrestling Promoters Who Put Themselves Over While Kinda, Sorta Owning Pro Football Teams.  I guess that qualifies as admirable restrain these days.

No plans to watch the angle, but it will be interesting to see how far into this TK goes.  Shad Khan appearing in a wrestling angle was not something I thought I’d see.

  3. Wind-down of the X-Men books seems unnecessarily convoluted.  Too much sturm und drang (turmoil) for my liking.  It doesn’t really feel like we’re heading anywhere fresh or interesting either. The developments with Xavier seem out of the blue and aren’t having much impact on me because there’s probably zero chance they stick for very long.  Nothing I’ve heard about the reset interests me yet, so I am probably out on the X-books for awhile.  Simone writing X-Men might be good, but I’m very much wait-and-see on that.  I kinda want her to be on the book more than an arc or two before I jump in.

i didn’t love the Krakoa era, but it’s still mind-boggling Hickman seemingly got pushed aside for writers like Gerry Dugan.  I kinda wish Hickman had been allowed to stick closer to his original pitch for the books and had been allowed to finish as he wanted.  House/Powers of X were fascinating, but I lost interest quick once Hickman became more of a creative director and they started interweaving the books.  Had practically no interest in X-Men titles not written by Hickman. Gillen & Ewing did interesting work after Hickman left, but had same issues.  Anyway, would much prefer to see both those guys on other projects.  Gillen’s new creator-owned book will probably be interesting.

Since Punk posted the W Bush Mission Accomplished pic on IG I'll start the theory that he 4D chess'd AEW into showing the footage to prove there's no way Tony can claim he was afraid for his life and didn't have his reason for firing Punk. Big if true!

Hasn’t it been said numerous times that the confrontation with Tony was a separate incident (later) and may not even have been taped?

    oops, sorry.  I forgot….

As with all things involving CM Punk, why let the truth get in the way of what his marks want to think?

  5. I can believe this.  I’ve met a number of pro ball players over the years who paid very little attention to their money so long as they had spending cash, and the people they trusted to manage their finances were either corrupt or inept. Kevin Durant’s accountant embezzled $70 million over a couple years. Charles Barkley lost a good chunk of his early fortune because his financial advisor made dumbass investments in things like earthworm farms (Barkley had no idea where his money was going until much later)

Sure, but if you believe the sheets, Perry was egging it on with “why don’t you do something about it?” and whatnot.

And Punk probably picked a fight with Perry over the windshield spot because Perry was a friend of the Bucks and Punk probably figured he could push a midcarder around.  You can spin the situation a lot of ways, if you are so inclined,

Haven’r seen the footage or the angle around it, but Twitter claims AEW is removing the footage from their social media platforms due to negative reactions.  So, yeah, Khan misjudged this one. Meltzer says TK has been wanting to show the footage for awhile.  If that’s true, turning it into an angle probably wasn’t the way to win fans over to his side. I probably will avoid the footage just because the little bit I’ve heard about FTR’s promo afterwards sounds cringy and thin-skinned.  And AEW apparently already went that route with an Adam Copeland promo.

  7. Watching the Chris Colt episode now and I’m mostly just bored. Colt just seems like an unpleasant weirdo and not an interesting one.  Wrestling is full of weirdos and drug addicts who are either more or interesting or at least mildly sympathetic. I’m 45 min in so I’ll probably finish the ep, but I could probably go the rest of my life without hearing any more about Colt.

Dark Side is fairly depressing once you realize even the people no one has anything bad to say about were rotten, absentee fathers.  There should be a drinking game built around someone saying “_______ was a good father” then telling a story that makes it clear he wasn’t a good father.

  8. The Pirates are 6-1 so far this season and were 20-8 and in first place on May 1 last year.  That alone should keep you from getting too excited or too depressed about how your team is doing during the first couple weeks of a six-month season.

The As officially announced the plan this morning

They will play the 2025-27 seasons in Sacramento with an option to play 2028 there too

Optics are bad, but Sutter Health Stadium is a much nicer place to watch a baseball game than Oakland Coliseum and I imagine Sacramento might provide hot crowds for at least a while, as opposed to Oakland (which allays has some excuse why they’re not supporting their pro sports teams).  Probably a positive change in the short-term.

Opening a new ballpark in Las Vegas in time for 2028 or 2029 seems a mite ambitious considering they don’t seem to have a blueprint yet, so far as I know.

  10. How May people even know - or care - who Ziggy Haim or Max the Impaler are?  It seems more like a couple obscure Indy wrestlers trying to drum up publicity over slight coincidences,

I think it’s more likely that Logan is cosplaying the main character from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (which stars a female Viking).

Tom Brady, who can go fuck himself, just passed 100,000 yards passing for his career.

So… what does “who can go fuck himself” add to the conversation?  Because you really seem to want me to know that he can do that.

  12. I’m guessing Kyrie will make up with the Nets sooner instead of later.  Nets are a train wreck and Kylie can still play.  If he does finally get himself bounced from the NBA, ehh, he’s well on his way to becoming a folk hero to some.

lol, maybe banning him from the league would be a net win.  He’s said a few times that basketball is keeping him from doing the great things he was put on this a earth for.  If he gets bounced from the league, he can finally end world hunger and solve race relations.

Because of course that can't happen if everyone's not white.

Now I remember why I put you on ignore. Let me do that again.

Nope, making everyone white doesn’t actually make for a better game any more than including minority characters does.  It doesn’t really matter to me one way or the other.  Final Fantasy XII is going to be a huge game with lots of moving elements.  Picking one issue out of 100 or 1000 and forming an opinion about the game seems myopic to me.  Probably should at least see the finished product before forming an opinion.  Not that you really need a reason to not be interested in a game.

Putting me on ignore seems like an overreaction, but probably the right call.  Not sure what your problem with me is, but I’m not going to make it my problem too, so good luck.

My feelings on Johns largely soured due to an over reliance on hyperviolence and what to me are stupid retcons (largely the Rogues). And the Rainbow Lanterns. And Superboy Prime and most everything about that book.

I also think making your dead sister into a superhero is both cathartic for him and a little creepy. To be fair, I think the same thing with Loeb and Nova. But that’s definitely a YMMV issue .

Lol, I may have terrible taste in comics.  I enjoyed most all of the Johns books mentioned in the past few posts and really liked a lot of them.  Honestly, I really enjoyed Flashpoint and New 52.  New 52 is probably my favorite DC period.  Good mix of commercial books and experiential stuff.  New 52 produced a lot of runs I really enjoyed: Lemire’s Green Arrow run, Morrison’s Action run, Johns on Aquaman and Justice League, Grayson, Batwoman, etc.

I also enjoy most of Mark Millar’s output.  So, yeah, I realllyyyy suck.

  15. Fist enough.  I mostly meant I dunno why Johns’ comic work is unpopular.   I pay practically no attention to his involvement with DC films and series.  Johns’ DC books were getting bashed well before Krypton or the JL movie.  As a writer, I think Johns is great.  Not a universally-held opinion apparently.

I only watch wrestling to find out if anything on the shows make strangers mad. It’s very normal behavior.

Is it more or less normal than reading a wrestler’s Twitter to see if he says anything offensive?  I just think it would be good for a laugh.

Besides, I didn’t say I was watching the show,  I won’t find out who the mystery opponent is until I read the Dynamite thread in a day or two.
