  1. The last episode was quality stuff. I hadn’t seen much of Thatcher before, my god he’s a beast, looks like a super soldier version of Cesaro and his tussling with DBS jr was great.

Simon Gotch’s saggy boobs really distract me. I enjoy every shape and size in wrestling and not a body Nazi (ZSJ is one of my favourites) but there is something about his combination of dumpiness, round shoulders and man boobs that makes him so non-intimidating.

  2. It's when he calls the running Destino as if it's the same as the standing Destino that annoys me.

I generally enjoy the English commentary though, even with the corniness and the tired gags they have a certain quaint throwback charm being mostly sports-focused and not bickering and chucking out corporate buzzwords every five seconds.

  3. Wow Shingo / Naito has to be near the top of the heap so far this tournament. They just brutalised other and kept on taking it up the next notch.

I could just watch Shingo all day. He was a sadistic pleasure to watch throughout BOSJ, and I think he might have the best facials of anyone in current wrestling. The spectrum from annoyed to registering a hard hit to agony to exhaustion and everything in between.

They've both come a long way since these fresh faced young lads.

For all the shittiness of the Kliq, X-Pac seems really the most level headed of the bunch, which is absolutely insane after all of his personal issues. Ive been meaning to check his podcast out for a while now and this was a good reminder

It’s a bit hit and miss. He went through a string of interesting wrestling guests that hadn’t appeared on many other podcasts, and asked a lot of insightful questions. But then other times it can get quite dry and insubstantial when he’s discussing current affairs as he becomes so painfully deliberate in his diplomacy that he says nothing at all. Not that he has to bury everyone Cornette style but give me something, man.

The zoo setup brings some energy but the other folks can come across as a bit sycophantic, and that one woman who just shouts everything she says...maybe it’s an American thing.

But Sean’s genuine chill nature does come across and overall it’s definitely worth checking out.

I loved that video. Gimme that, in-ring promos, and matches for TV and I'm set. Super slick, simple shit with long-term implications. I cannot WAIT for Mjeff/Cody. Spears standing up for a fight and questioning "is that it?!" like that's not how wrestling contract signings are supposed to go is a funny, subtle dig that I can get behind. I wonder if they'll have a last minute surprise beyond what Tully asked to be changed in the video.

Total dickhead, but with a sense of loyalty to the one man who believed in him, is an interesting dynamic in itself. You could get several months of play out of that easily.

But when the betrayal finally comes it will be great. Or does Cody instigate it as a pre-emptive strike realising he is sick a brown noser?

Theres a lot to be optimistic about with the way they are building storylines in these ‘road to’. But they’ve had plenty of breathing space and time to get it just how they want it, which may be a challenge for live week-to-week programming.

  6. Bringing up Pillman Jr, I think he’s the perfect next man for AEW in that ‘future star’ group of MJF/Allin/Jungle Boy where they have ‘it’ and if nurtured will grow into the upper card role from getting the reps in on weekly TV.

No idea of the specifics of the MLW contract, and there’s personal complications of taking one of Hart Foundation and not others. If MJF in-character on the Jericho podcast is to be believed (big grain of salt) the contract only excluded working with WWE specifically.

  7. The return of Zacky Big Tekkers countering the flippy shit with all the mat wizardry. This, Tana/EVIL, Archer/Okada and KENTA/SANADA were all top shelf matches for a solid night 11.

Watching the prelim tags paid off big with the Mox/Yano interaction. Every bit of that was superb, and that roll up with the cash fluttering out of Yano's hand was something out of a Looney Tunes cartoon. I can't wait to see what they come up with for the Block match.

  8. I thought Cobb looked slightly better against Taichi than he has done for the rest of the tournament. Shingo / Jay was tonnes of fun, the crowd was on fire when Shingo was bringing it, he's such a star (also helps that Jay is such a tool).

I think Naito's the first one to have a better out-of-the-ring game than Moxley, loved the run-up dropkick. And also Moxley's interesting interpretation of 'Tranquilo'. Wow are they putting Mox over strong, surely he'll have to be back a few times if he keeps up this string of wins.

  9. KENTA has definitely found his groove, and the way he was manhandling Okada around was impressive. I too thought it was going to end in a time limit, had little hope that KENTA would have gone over but still had my fingers crossed. And Archer stays on a roll, hopefully he stays healthy through to the end and has half a dozen standout performances by the conclusion of the tournament.

And I would be remiss not to mention ZSJ's latest meltdown, I was wondering when Boris Johnson would send him over the edge. You're not the only one, bruv...

I have no opinion of what F lair's S hado W is saying but I think Punk just wants to watch sports mainly.

    bq9tge4j71b21.jpgMatt has connected the dots...

On the one hand, Punks known for just speaking his mind whether or not it comes off as dickish so it could just be another case of that.

On the other hand, not one of the issues that Punk brought up as reasons for leaving in Colts podcast (disregard for his health, unsafe workers, being strung along on false promises, part timers etc) would apply to AEW. It’s simply about whether the passion is all gone and not coming back, which would be understandable.

That's two 5.75 now this year with the BOSJ match with Shingo. What's it going to take Big Willy to reach the rarefied air of Omega and Okada?

  12. A whip into the barrier or a quick shot with a chair is one thing, but when you can methodically dissect your opponent's limbs with weapon after weapon it tends towards the farcical and you wonder why everyone doesn't do it. But I appreciate your point that it is consistent in Japanese kayfabe. And if Moxley is fluent in the language of violence it makes sense that it would be an integral part of his game plan.

I do love Moxley's take on whether Shingo is a Junior: 'if he's a cruiserweight, I'm one of the Doobie brothers! He's a rhino!'

  13. Moxley / Shingo was a logical build to the finish even if Red Shoes gave way too much leeway with the weapons. Shingo's been a monster on such a tear for the past few months, it's weird to see him tapping out. They may be trying to emphasise how hard it is to step up to heavyweight competition, but Shingo comes across as a beast and every bit as credible as Ishii (similar stature) in everything he does.

    Demographics?

True, but they have a lot of other bases covered with the rest of the crew. Good to see Awesome Kong, and makes sense since she's more known for GLOW than anything else to the casual audience. Interesting that neither Jericho nor Moxley are included. Keeping kayfabe for the men but not the women (although maybe Nyla and Kong have settled their differences now).

  15. Probably Scurll for the big debut on the first TV show, right? Either that, or PAC if all the visa / creative issues have been ironed out.

I feel like the PAC situation really derailed their big plans for Hangman, and their bodged together alternative has left him looking like another person in the crowd (except for the promo where he pulled his stitches out, but how many will watch that vs the shows themselves?). It’s a big of a red flag for their ability to change plans on the fly, which will be critical for weekly TV and the inevitable injuries or other emerging issues.

  17. At Fight for the Fallen, I questioned why Marko Stunt was seemingly shoehorned into the Boy and his Dinosaur act.

But seeing the BTE skit and thinking about it, especially with AEW's right-on approach to inclusivity, there might be a place for a wholesome modern day take on the Oddities. They find common understanding on their shared experience of being cast out, whether because they are smaller than average, or because they are a 65 million year old reptile with a Masters Degree in Medieval History.

    Thank you for this.

From what I've seen of the G1 Climax 29, my favourite match so far was Tanhashi vs. Sabre Jr.

Good shout. I can't recall perfectly but I don't think they left the ring once, and barely ran the ropes at all. It was a nice refreshing change of pace from the flippity flops and strong-style exchanges.

Between this match , super dickhead Zack vs SANADA and the amusement of the sneaky win vs Fale, I don't think there are 3 matches featuring the same wrestler that I enjoyed more than those 3 as of night 7.

Edit after thinking about it: maybe Tana vs KENTA, Okada and ZSJ would just beat it out.
