  1. I think outside of the Chigusa/Dump Hair matches my favorite Joshi match ever is that Jumping Bomb Angels v. Dump/Bull match from 1/9/87with the great post match brawl, with Tateno and Yamazaki just throwing themselves at Dump over and over again because they are so royally pissed off at how they got screwed over. The whole vibe is so "Fuck no we're not going to stand for this bullshit!" and they just Type A crazy on, what I think is, one of the Matsunaga Brothers demanding some Goddam JUSTICE!~!

Co-signed. That match is dooooope just by how crazy it is. I also like the first Devil Masami vs. Chigusa Nagayo match (I think it's their first), I can't recall the date, but close to the finish is basically the two of them just trading punches.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet so forgive me if I am repeating this but CM Punk told Ariel Helwani (sic?) that he told WWE he would be want to induct Warrior into the Hall of Fame.

If he tells the story about Harley Race on Punks livejounal page, it will be the best thing ever.

Google it if you don't know it.

This past 4th of July was spent at Lake of the Ozarks with myself, Ace Steel, and of course the legendary Harley Race. We spent all day on the Lake in his boat and a lot of the day was like that commercial for 'Girls Gone Wild'. Random strangers showing me their boobies (there ya go shelley!), and me just throwing water ballons at them. Late that night, back at Harleys house, we all ate some great BBQ and Harley had about a million billion martinis I think it was. He had these little pickled green beans he'd put in them....anyway....he drank a LOT. Which is no surprise, he's Harley Fucking Race. And yes, I just capitilized the 'F' in fucking. Ace is pretty tanked too, to set the scene...i'm just stuffed with BBQ, when this hilarious conversation ensues. Harley gets to telling stories, which on another side note is some of the best times i've ever had in my life. Just having the privilege to sit and listen to Harely talk about his career on numerous occasions has been really rewarding. He was talking about his run in the WWF, the reason he was brought in, and more importantly who he was working at the time. The conversation went exactly like this:

Harley: "...and he had me working Hogan, JYD, and one of my last programs was with....shit. What's his name? The guy. You know. Big guy....c'mon, you know!

    That faggot Indian."

Now...I bust out laughing and Ace and I just look at each other while Harely is scrunching up his face trying to remember who he is talking about. I start throwing out names, but none of them really make any sense. I mean....Wahoo never worked in the WWF, and certainly if he did, Harely wouldn't call him "that faggot Indian". Tatanka, who Ace proudly proclaimed was who Harely must've been talking about. Certainly you all know Tatanka, while having wrestled in the WWF, it was years after Harely had already retired. So i'm sitting there, and Harely is literally scratching his head and Ace is clueless...and I really don't have any clue either. So I think..."faggot indian"...and I blurt out:

    Punk: "The Ultimate Warrior?"

    Harley: "YES! That fucking GOOF!"

    I laughed for a week.

    XxX

I remember in Dynamite Kid's book, he tells a story about Harley describing the Warrior exactly like that as well, minus the booze and all that. I think they were travelling together. My books are packed for The Move that Never Happened...Yet, or I'd give you guys the direct quote from the book.

  3. How about predictions about surprise entrants? Would Jake Roberts qualify as a "surprise" entrant after showing up on Raw a couple weeks ago? He had been talking about wanting to be in the Rumble for quite some time now, so I probably think that's going to happen. He's probably going to get too much face heat for my idea of him being the "mastermind" behind the Wyatts to work.

(Along those lines, I realized who would make a perfect Sister Abigail...Sara Del Rey. Probably not the only one to think of that, but there it is.)

How big of a pop would there be if AJ Styles or Sting showed up? THAT would be huge.

  4. If I remember correctly, Dice-K also resisted adapting to American baseball, approaching games as if it were the same as in Japan, which it isn't. I believe he fought John Farrell - he was Boston's pitching coach at the time - on adjusting his mechanics and such to better suit the American game. By the second time he went on the DL, I think most of the fanbase soured on him.

  5.

LeBatard's fellow voters are...  nonplussed.... with his decision to give his ballot to Deadspin.

Read here for some truly cringe-inducing statements, like:

All in all, it just seems to me by undermining the process, Dan, you sold out your fellow members of the sportswriting fraternity.

Yeah, Wilbon and Kornheiser were talking about this on PTI yesterday. According to them, the system for HOF voting is just fine. "It works," I believe was Kornheiser's quote.

I can't even take their positions seriously anymore. I only watch PTI because of the chemistry the two of them have.

  6. As was likely expected, Io Shirai and Arisa Nakajima went to a time-limit draw at STARDOM's show on Saturday. At that same show, Natsuki Taiyo beat Kaori Yoneyama to win the High Speed Title for the second time. Looked like a good show, and they reportedly had a decent gate. So that's good.

  7. Okay, playing for third and I have a couple decisions to make:

RB: Shane Vereen (@ BAL) or Gio Bernard (vs. MIN)? Based on matchups, I'm leaning towards Gio. On the other hand, with Gronk out, Brady seems to like using Vereen as another target (in week 14 he had 153 receiving yards and only 9 rushing yards).

DEF: Kansas City (vs. IND) or Detroit (vs. NYG)? Indy seems to be struggling and KC's defense has served me well, but it is REALLY tempting to play to the matchup and start Detroit against the terribad Giants.

    Thanks!

  9. So, Sunday night was a big night for JWP, as Arisa Nakajima won the title from Kana, and the Sendai Sisters beat Ray and Leon to win both of JWP's tag belts.

Did anybody go to the show? I have to imagine the Arisa/Kana match had a real "big match" atmosphere to it. Did anything else of note happen?

  10. MJD was one of my starting RB's.     Since he's Doubtful and likely out this week:

    Trent Richardson

    Daniel Thomas

    Matt Asiata

I'd go with Thomas. Trent has been a complete bust this year, and the Vikings are likely to go to a committee in the backfield, so Asiata is a longshot at best.

Anybody care to help me out on mine?

  11. The single season record for passing yards is also within Peyton's grasp, albeit a bit more difficult to obtain than the TD mark. He needs to average 333 yards over the last 2 games to pass Brees. Considering that he's averaged 343 yards per game up to now, that certainly seems attainable.

  12. Thanks, 1Joshi. I thought it had to be something like that. I think she definitely could have gone somewhere after JWP went into hibernation, had she not retired due to injuries.

On a similar tangent, does anybody know why they had a bunch of their young stars (Kanako Montoya, Tomoko Miyaguchi, Reiko Amano) change their ring names (Kana Mizaki, Ran Yu-Yu, and Carlos Amano, respectively) in the late 90's?

  13. So, it's lineup optimization time again! Here's what I've got:

    QB: Russel Wilson (@ NYG)

WR: Desean Jackson (@ MIN), Keenan Allen (@ DEN)

RB: Marshawn Lynch (@ NYG), Shane Vereen (@ MIA)

    TE: Vernon Davis (@ TB)

    K: Steven Hauschka (@ NYG)

    DEF: Kansas City (@ OAK)

    Flex: ???

Bench: Gio Bernard (@ PIT), Roddy White (vs. WAS), Michael Crabtree (@ TB), Cordarrelle Patterson (vs. PHI), Robbie Gould (@ CLE)

So, as you can see, my lineup is pretty well set except for my flex spot and (maybe) kicker. So, (1) who goes in the flex spot, and (2) should I be starting Gould instead of Hauschka? Thanks!

EDIT: It's worth noting that return yards count in this league, which makes me lean more towards Patterson for the flex spot. Thoughts?

  15. Welp. I'm down by just under 8 points.  My opponent is done, I have Josh McCown, so I think I'm good. It feels so weird to say I have confidence in Josh McCown, but there you go.

Gronk's knee imploding didn't help matters for me this week, either. Good thing I also have Vernon Davis.

  16. So cupcakes have become a thing in our little neck of the woods in the last couple years. There are two places near us that won Cupcake Wars; one in East Haven (Sugar), and one in downtown Milford (Suzie Cakes, which is now called Sweet Cupcasions for whatever reason). But we have one that is literally a 10-15 minute walk from our house, called Taste and See, that blows both of those away. Literally the best cupcakes I've ever had, full stop.

How about you guys? Any good cupcakes to be had in your neck of the woods?
