I have a morbid fascination with the idea of Gorilla Monsoon being the third man.

OH BOY BRAIN, THESE FANS CAN STICK IT! In fact they can use the irresistible force of my immovable object to stick it! THEY WENT TO THE WELL ONE TOO MANY TIMES JESS!

Okay, I couldn't resist. Now I Photoshopped Monsoon, Heenan, and Ventura as the alternate-universe nWo:

Those guys at least would know how to talk for just long enough (and not for half the show).

Now, if you're talking about those creepy companies in Florida that, at least in 2008, booked the ladies for these almost softcore matches in empty rooms --and then sold the matches for around $10 a piece, then yes. That's a little bit scary. And aside from the fact that I know it supported some of my favorite ladies financially, I am ashamed to have bought a few of those. Thankfully, I have long since forgotten the name of the company. And when megaupload went down and took several hundred gigs of files I had archived, away went all my chick rasslin as well as all the other wrestling vids I had spent several years accumulating.

There was a group in MS/TN that did the same thing. I think they folded last year. But lots of the MS women's indy talent worked for them. Was told them made more doing 5 matches for the softcore group than they made all year working the MS indies. Which doesn't surprise me. Outside of 1 group, all the MS indies pay 5 or 10 bucks to the wrestlers. The former NWA fed in this state is infamous for not paying at all. But hard to pay the talent when they are drawing 20 fans tops to each show.

Yeah, I can't really fault the girls for taking those bookings. There's little enough money in the indie scene as it is.

But looking back on buying and owning the "matches" -- well, that's a different story. LOL

"Sorry to interrupt you, but I was following you from your car. . ."

Love this Bayley. Love both of these gals.  A Trish and Mickie angle would be awesome, especially with AJ being just a nutty as Bayley. (compared to the normal Trish)

  4. Okay, so it looks like a "preventative" visit is covered by a copay.

But any other services, including bloodwork, falls under the deductible and 30% coinsurance. Illness/Injury visits fall under the deductible.

I don't know how you had surgery for $100, but there's no way this plan would cover that cheaply. Maybe you pay $500 a month or something.

  5. Fuck you, health insurance plans.

So Obamacare was supposed to make everything affordable. Yeah. I apparently make just enough money to not be eligible for assistance. So the only plans in my state exchange that are within my monthly budget -- and even those are too expensive for me, really -- have a deductible of $5000. Which means that barring catastrophe, I would still be paying out of pocket for every doctor visit. (not counting the several hundreds of dollars a month in premiums)

After all these years of debate and anticipation, I am still not getting insurance.

    Fabulous.

  6. Wow, it really does sound a bit like Madge. 1990? Makes sense, as the Like a Prayer album would have been massive.

Good find. But even as a Kylie fan, I had to turn this one off half way.

  7. Well-said on the mutual respect, guys. I can see totally what you're saying.

Cena here confirms what I suspected about him as a person: he works really hard, and he loves what he does. It's probably the biggest reason I am a fan, even when his promos can sometimes be dorky. He just seems to be enjoying himself so much, and that feeling comes through to me.

Their discussion about the crowds loving and hating him, as well as the difficulty of a modern fanbase often simply trying to put themselves over at the expense of the show, was also interesting. I appreciating that they spent some time on that topic. Between this interview and the Cena episode of the Wrestlemania series on the network, the WWE has decided to publically acknowledge the diverse reactions Cena gets. I respect that, as opposed to them pretending that he's only super-over.

  8.

Watching The Wrestling Classic (1985), which is a 16-man tournament. And then I think it ends with a Piper-Hogan title match. I am watching it little by little.

What strikes me is the vast improvement in their production from Mania 1 to this show. It's well lit. The transitions to back stage and between announcers is smooth. It just looks and feels bright and desirable.

I think I still have the studio produced VHS of that somewhere. I have to say, WWF loved the "face suplexes the heel into the ring from the outside and gets popped with a foreign object" finish in the mid-80's, especially with Savage. Overall I thought it was a pretty good show but had lots of lame finishes, especially a countout in the tourney final. I know you don't want to job Savage clean on tv but why book him in the finals if he's not going to win then?

I haven't gotten to the finals yet. I assumed Savage was going to win, actually. But I am only on the second round. The matches for the most part have been rushed, which only makes sense for a short show. At least there's been some variety in the finishes. The most creative so far was probably Terry Funk vs Moondog Spot.

  9. Oh man, had no idea Kylie had a new one...Excited!

Her newest video from the album just came out this week. I don't care for the song as much as "Into the Blue", but the video makes me strongly reconsider the value of the Bosu Ball.

  10. Finally started listening to this show. I've downloaded about 10 eps from people whose names appeal to me.

First one I listened to was Cena, and I really enjoyed it. There was perhaps a bit too much mutual ass-kissing for my taste, but maybe Austin felt that was necessary to keep good relations and for Vince to allow him to keep using top names?

Just a little ways into Regal part 1. I am amazed at how mellow Regal is on the mic.

  12. I have to disagree with the support for Adrian English's entrance. It just goes on and on and on. (Kind of like Jillian Hall and her singing - anyone remember her?) It was perhaps amusing the first time. Maybe.

Also, I completely zoned out during his match with Sheamus. Maybe it was the self-indulgent signing contest that opened the match.

Bayley and Sasha put on a very entertaining match. The wrestling was adequate, and the character work was superb.

  13. I grew up southern baptist in the 80's, and we were absolutely taught constantly about how the world hates us and wants us destroyed.

Now that I belong to the Atheist/Antitheist grouping, I can recognize that maybe, just maybe people disliked us because were were self-righteous dicks. ;)

    Other items:

Comics -- I have had my moments here.

    Trekkie -- definitely

  14. I can't believe how often I have listened to BANGERZ since it came out. I can't really explain it because it's not a great record or anything (RED, for instance, is a superior pop album).  I hated "We Can't Stop" when I first heard it. Then I caught one of those DOO-WOP versions on youtube, and I came to really dig the song.

Here's some other recent-ish stuff I am digging:

It also occurs to me that this episode may never get on the network, even though it was really good, because there's a bizarre vignette about them vaselining up their hands to shove something up the bare ass of a naked Flair they've talked into getting onto a table in all fours -- and a young Piper walks in, says hello, turns around, and walks out.

It was Dusty helping Flair shove hemorrhoids the size of golf balls back into his asshole with the aid of vaseline.

I like my version better.
