They should just call him Ledge

Honestly, "The Legend" Adam Copeland has a nice ring to it and sometimes referencing him as "Ledge" is not the worst compromise. Hopefully his creative juices are flowing a little bit better than that though.

This is the problem. Dynamite is getting closer to Rampage where it's all character development and no matches, with Collision being "the wrestling show". Used to be there's maybe one of these a month but you wouldn't notice so much. This one was bad enough to where I really noticed. Dynamite shouldn't make me feel like Raw where it's "oh here's another talking segment" and I turn back to the laptop.

To be fair, this episode was the Dynamite go-home show for the PPV, and there have been 2 other PPV's within the past month. It's obviously been a bit ham-fisted and hopefully they find some balance, but I much prefer this to earlier in the year when it felt like nothing ever happened for weeks on end until it was time to hype the PPV.

  3. Tony Khan hyped WrestleDream as the end of an era and the beginning of a new era. He’s most likely referring to the MAX deal, but I think he was hinting at many things, including storyline elements.

The era of The Undisputed Kingdom.

Cole was under the devil mask and has been working Max the entire time. I don’t think the injury is a work, but that was the catalyst for Adam framing MJF since now his plans to win the title are delayed. So now the idea is to break Max down psychologically, one piece at a time. The first piece is escalating the feud with Jay White and taking the tag belts away in one fell swoop. After Sunday, Max will be at his lowest point since becoming champion. Perfect time for someone to come in a swoop the Triple B away. I think the plan was for Cole to beat MJF but with the injury it may have delayed things, but I have another idea: Wardlow.

A heel War Dog with Addddam! in a wheelchair and Orielly, Roddy, and the Kingdom as his henchmen seems pretty well rounded. Echoes of the Bloodline. And then when Wardlow can’t win the big one and it’s time for Cole to work again, the heels can turn on the big loser and maybe his old scumbag boss can save face.

(I’m now realizing Sunday is probably too soon to reveal the 👹 but I enjoy these thoughts so…submit reply.)

Not sure why there would be pressure on the audience.

The whole notion that the audience  is “part of the show” is another problem with modern wrestling.

Right, pressure wasn't the correct term, but more often than not your average Dynamite crowd is either hit or miss and it does make a huge difference. It's not that there is or should be some expectation of the audience, but any live performance lives or dies by the crowd that's in person for the show. So it's a variable for sure. And we've heard time after time from workers that the stadium noise functions differently and is another challenge. Safe bet to say the crowd will be absolutely lit, however.

I have grievances. We all do.

But they need to nail this, for everyone's sake.

    And I hope they do.

I maintain that the real pressure is not on the talent, the audience, or the booking. This show will live and die on the audio engineering and camera direction. Perhaps also to a lesser extent, sigh, the commentary. I can live with bad booking and matches that don't quite hit, but for an expensive and successful weekly TV show to sound like dogshit every week and constantly miss important spots and moments is absolutely inexcusable 5 years in. 🤞

  6. Update on Santana and Ortiz from Fightful

    Spoiler

For those asking, we’re told that as of him being cleared for a return, he and Ortiz were still not on good terms. However, that had been the case for quite a while before the injury, and it’s not impossible that the two can work together again following his return.
Speaking of Ortiz – there’s plenty adding to the traction that could mean he’s planned for a spot on the Wembley AEW All In card. Ortiz was scheduled for a Limitless Wrestling show next weekend, but was pulled from the event. In following up, we were told it was due to an AEW related obligation. There are several wrestlers not booked for the card that are being sent to the UK, but we’ve also heard of plenty that aren’t.

  7. Running list of BCC's rumored and possible mystery partners for the Stadium Stampede:

The Dark Order, Daniel Garcia, Santana, Ortiz, Lance Archer, Zack Sabre Jr, Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi, Shota Umino, Michael Oku, Trent Seven, Shibata, El Phantasmo, David Finlay, The Butcher, The Blade, Kip Sabian, Homicide, Chris Hero, Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson, and Bill Goldberg.

I'm probably leaving some big names off, but that's a pretty impressive list of suspects.

  8. Right, sadly not only the Southern states. Here in Wisconsin, you can walk around with a legally obtained murder weapon out in the open without question, but if you want to conceal that you'd need a permit. And you can legally have a loaded firearm in your vehicle at all times, but of course if a cop sees this they can act accordingly.

A question. Have anybody came closer to the announce desk than during the death match tonight? I can't remember a single moment of the table getting crushed WWE-style at all.

Hobbs chokeslammed Punk through  on top of/collapsed the announce table to build to their 2021 Rampage Grand Slam match.

I agreed with you up until you said Punk/Joe isn’t confirmed. What more needs to be done to say it’s a lock? They repeatedly discussed it on Collision last week, and Joe issued the challenge with Punk having until tonight to accept (telegraphing a run in during or after the trios title match). That one is 100% on the card.

Well, there's always the possibility that they whiff it and add Starks to the match. Or run something else entirely, nothing is confirmed until we see that sweet graphic with the solemn London sky as the backdrop.

“Rose-colored glasses” and “imaginary golden goose” seems a bit of a strange turn to this conversation when I have been consistent with both my praise and my criticism of this company since I started watching. I think you are confusing me with someone else.

Not trying to take any shots, I do honestly confuse a lot of posters around here and the lack of navigation certainly doesn't help. My point stands, we as fans tend to look back at the best of things while looking ahead at the possibilities. It's easy to look at Wembley and think, "ahh, they have to do their best, which was Punk-MJF" but then also look back and see that the main event of Revolution 2022 was actually a match nobody cared about, Cole vs. Page. It's just silly how in real time we seem to focus more on the negative but history fossilizes the "greatness" when in reality all of it is necessary and wrestling.

I have very little time for the be happy with everything we are getting because this company didn’t exist a few years ago talk.

You missed the part where no company or booker ever has actually done this perfectly. It just isn't possible. You're looking for a unicorn, and if you go back and watch the entire product around the time of the Punk-MJF feud, it won't be there either. Rose tinted glasses that are easily removed when this imaginary golden goose comes into our heads. In five years we'll be looking back in awe craving for this moment for an 80k show on the horizon. The discourse around this show has become Royal Rumble 2014, which is just insane to me. There is an actual dream trios match on "free" TV tonight. Will ya'll be commenting on that show with as much intensity?

  13. I'm probably mixing these up but Tony's booking advisors for Dynamite have been reported to be Sanjay and QT Marshall and the Collision team being lead by Danielson. Obviously, the Elite, Punk, and Jericho all have a lot of input too. With Jerry, Dean, Mr. Assman, etc. as producers/agents/coaches, I think it's a pretty solid inner circle. There's no one person who could come in and affect the kind of change the voices think they need. Wrestling is a revolving door of angles, matches, talent, feuds, trends, storylines, creators, performers and fans. There have always been too many variables to try to fix it. The beauty of wrestling is that it can never ever be perfected. 80k in Wembley in 4 years with a 2 year pandemic and we will never be happy.

  14. Entertaining show tonight. Not a night to rake in the star ratings but the wrestling was all solid and there were lots of easter eggs. If the only reason to tune in is for an Eddie Kingston promo, some wild match announcements, and a stellar ROH video package, I'd say we're still doing okay. Darby/Cage is definitely something I'd put on my plate. Enjoying the obsessed and depressed starlet role for Toni. A middle of the road Orange defense, but I'm sold on Harley's singing routine and the Yuta feud. 28th defense, but please nobody start counting. Britt's promo was good, and I wonder if Bunny maybe goes over and which forces Britt to challenge Kris. A somewhat more interesting route.
