  1. I didn't mind the show, but it felt like a lot of nothing happened. Decent outing, but like ebbie mentioned the great shows lately have me expecting much more than what we got tonight.

Obviously I dug the tag match.

I was really impressed with Rollins jumping on Ambrose while he was being carried away. For something so simple it looked really violent and unhinged. I think that match deserves Summer Slam even if I did very much want to see it tonight.

Rusev is awesome. I don't particularly like the Russian thing, but he is fun to watch.

The Wyatt/Jericho match was good but the ending sucked. Wyatt needs to be dangerous to keep an edge to his character. I like the idea of adding another member or two to the family. Or he could just win more. Like actually have single matches on Raw and win them so the PPV loses don't feel so derailing.

I don't like Cesaro nearly as much as everyone else here does. He does feel like he's being wasted right now, but outside of strongman spots and the Giant Swing, which is AWOL, he hasn't offered anything since Mania. I understand being given chances to showcase yourself, but I feel like he's had them and missed them. He's like a much better Adam Rose: not being given a shot but not doing much to really deserve a shot at the moment either. He has had great matches but needs to do SOMETHING when he has a chance. Grow a personality. Someone made the comment that Axel was better at seconding Heyman's promos and, sadly, I think that's pretty accurate.

That said, his "Eye for an eye" line to Kofi before the eye poke was great. More stuff like that is exactly what I mean.

Ziggler looked like some sort of metro-Moondog after the battle royal.

Orton brought back the color tights!

Speaking of ring attire, Reigns's post Shield gear looks like something you'd see at a goth rave. He just isn't ready. His ring work isn't there, his look isn't there, and I honestly don't think the crowd reactions are going to be there much longer either. He's a good idea but just seems out of place in practice to me. Hopefully they prove me wrong in the build up for the next major show.

  2. Not to derail the Walmart conversation, but I was doing something on the genre of match that is the tag team, all over the arena brawl. They can be terrible if it's just walking around the arena in a headlock, but when violent and crazy enough they really are my favorite type of match.

There were a ton in ECW, the concession stand brawls in Memphis, The Nasty Boys matches in WCW (the two with Cactus, and one with Harlem Heat from Uncensored 95), The Shield/Evolution matches and the TLC against Team Hell No and Ryback, and there was even a decent Dudley Boys/Outsiders match at Lockdown 2010.

This probably warrants its own thread, but what are some other stand outs?

  3. Adam Rose is really frustrating to watch, because it's like the crowd wants to be into his act, but he does nothing to allow them to be a part of it during his matches. The Exotic Express is much more lively and focused on fan participation, but he needs to embrace the chants when they happen. Dance to them, sing along with them, encourage them in literally any way. It's painful to watch.

  4.

I don't think Stewart is embarrassed, he's eating it up. And if you think Hero is fat? By any stretch of the imagination, in America? Okay HHH.

...but yeah, those trunks are not flattering at ALL.

Just because a lot of people in the country are relatively fatter doesn't mean he isn't REALLY fat.

I swear to God I'm not trying to troll or be 'lol u fat', but the fact that we're in such collectively awful health that people would actually feel the need to defend Hero's physique is legit frightening.

You kidding me? The guy's got love handles and a bit of a gut. He's still a legit athlete who busts his ass, possibly wrecking his neck every night. You want to talk about awful health, he isn't your target.

    Tell me more about health.

  5. I'm glad I've seen a couple people mention it already, but RVD did an excellent job of really keeping the first MitB match held together. He gets a lot of hate on this board, but he was an important part of a good match and that deserves mention. Good on him.

I liked the Rusev/Big E match, but it was amazing to me the difference between the two characters. Rusev is an obvious wrestling trope, but he is a defined character with an established history and motivation for winning. At least on the main roster, Big E is a large man who power lifts and loves America all of a sudden. That's it. The audience has no reason to care about him because they've been given no grounds to understand his character. It's not like an American-hating ex-Bulgarian Russian national obsessed with earning accolades for his adopted homeland is a complicated character sketch, but it's something simple and direct people can understand. It's frustrating how terrible WWE can be at the simplest aspects of storytelling.

Dean Ambrose already did the shoulder pop-in gimmick in the Bray Smackdown match nobody watched.

  6. I said this in a Smackdown thread, but Cena is really the only guy that makes sense, especially if they're building to Brock vs. the winner (re: the leaked SummerSlam poster). It's probably too soon for Reigns and, though Bray would be the most interesting choice, I have no desire to see him against Brock. As much as I'd like to eventually see a Sheamus/Brock match, it just doesn't make sense now. I can't see Kane/Del Rio/Cesaro winning at all, and Orton would just be so underwhelming.

On paper it looks to be, at the very least, a good show so I'm pretty excited! The traditional MitB match should be excellent given the line-up.

  7. As weird as this may sound, Wade should start pregame warm ups with Randy Orton so his damn arms stop falling off.  Randy's shoulder would pop out every fifteen seconds before he started doing this stretching before bell time.  I think Barrett needs a similar routine.

I see Swagger getting blamed for this but no details about what he actually did.  Whats the haps?

In an interview Orton called his routine "pre-habbing" which I thought was a really interesting way of looking at that kind of warm up.

  8. I liked the new look for Rollins. I think it makes him stand out more than the tactical gear, but still looks enough like it that it fits his overall persona. He looked like a super villain when he came out with the matching top.

I'd like to see Bray win the title because I think it's the most interesting option, but I don't see a heel winning the match. I'm guessing Cena or Sheamus wins as it still feels a little early for Reigns. I also have a feeling, however, they're going to build to a Summer Slam main event against Brock with whoever wins on Sunday; I can't see them shuffling the title around again before then. I think that opens the door for a pseudo-hoss v. hoss match between Roman and Brock for the title, then. Given the reaction on Raw to the Reigns/Russev showdown in the battle royal, I think the general audience would like to see that match. I'm not sure how good it would be, but it seems like an interesting possibility as long as there were lots stare-downs and pull-aparts in the build up.

Cena/Brock or Sheamus/Brock would both be excellent, I think, so either way, really.

  9. I feel the need to mention the Cena/Mysterio title match from Raw on 7/25/11. I love this match. It's smart, the crowd is hot, and one of Mysterio's last great matches, I think. This has been such a great decade for wrestling in the WWE that it's easy to let a lot of the earlier stuff pass you by (especially considering how good the TLC match was right before it), but do yourselves a favor and rewatch this match.

I will always maintain that this match should have happened at Summer Slam that year and let the Punk stuff play out afterward, but I understand the need to strike when the iron is hot. I just can't help but think it would have been better that way than what we eventually got.
