His two big spots are throwing his opponent out of the ring, and then doing the Pee Wee Herman dance on the apron (to Tequila by The Champs) while kicking them in the head, and pouring a jar of teeth into their mouth and then kicking them in the jaw.

However, before he was Danhausen, when he still pretended to have a first name, and used to paint his face to look like a regular human person, he was a solid technical wrestler. Really good Northern Lights Suplex.

Before I die, I need to see him against Orange Cassidy on tv. And then to hear Jim Cornette’s head explode reviewing it.

Always nice to surpass a million, but it seems pretty damn good up against a world series game with two teams from big southern markets, and having been moved to a completely different date/time for two weeks

Plus, they initially advertised Dynamite being on at 10PST and 11MT for people on the West coast and in mountain states before changing it back to being aired live kind of last minute which probably hurt them some too.

I'm out if he's in. Fuck that guy.

Feel for the roster. If ROH is closing up shop or shrinking their budget, then it's one less viable option for wrestlers and that's a shame. If that's the case, the obvious super talents from ROH that I'm aware of (don't really watch it but going off their work elsewhere): Gresham is a must and fits perfectly with Danielson, Garcia, Moriarty, etc., Rush is a superstar, Dragon Lee vs. Fenix in front of an AEW crowd would kill half the board and the other half would need new pants, and Bandido the other obvious guy. Has Bandido progressed much the past couple of years? He was really fun to watch but you could tell he was almost all style and little substance. Tape library would be a massive get. Please don't let WWE snap it up. It does sound like ROH is going to try to keep going next spring but in a very different state. Maybe they try to soak up their losses  by selling the library.

Yeah, the tape library is a good point. If Tony Khan is serious about eventually launching a streaming service having that tape library would give it a huge boost.

What is your issue with Danhausen? Didn’t he already wrestle in AEW as part of Cody’s open challenge last summer?

Damn. Lot of wrong decisions on this show. Superklique gets to make Jungle Boy look like a chump again, because them showing any ass at all would be too tall an order. Cody going over on Malakai seems stupid, too, but at least Malakai ate like 3 shotgun blasts first.

I liked the women’s match, and both men’s tourney matches were bangers. It’s just sad that the evp’s are allowed to cast such an insane shadow over everything else that happens on a weekly basis.

I thought this was the most comfortable and the best Jungle Boy promo has ever cut. It was short but it was progress which is good.

I don’t think he looked like a chump, he challenged any of the heels to a match, one of the heels pretended to accept and the others sneak attacked from behind. That’s pretty standard pro wrestling booking.

Oh shit I hope Archer is OK, that looked absolutely brutal and the improvised ending gave me strong Summerslam 97 vibes.

Also, was I the only one thinking that Cody was going for a Pedigree there at the end?

I 100% thought he was going to pedigree him and that would be the beginning of his heel turn.

Kind of think Black’s first loss should have come on a bigger stage than a random Saturday Dynamite.

But still this was a good match and a good show.

I hope the Archer thing was some kind of angle and not a serious injury, that was very awkward ending though.

  6. Will Hobbs is really good. It’s a bummer they had him lose another big match, especially to a guy whose gimmick I think is starting to get a little tiresome. Maybe it’s just me but it doesn’t sound like he’s as over as he once was.

Anna Jay vs Britt Baker was okay. Jay’s strikes are terrible but I saw she just had her 20th match a couple of weeks ago, so it’s crazy she’s as good at the things she is good at and has time to improve.

Andrade vs Pac was even better than the first match, very awesome and worth the time.

The problem I have with Rampage is that it's taped - first and foremost. Maybe it's unfair of me, but I think we can all agree live wrestling/sports is just so much better in the moment than going back to watch it later. You then couple that with the fact that - outside of that second Rampage (Punk's debut which also happened to be live) the crowd isn't into it as much as they are with Rampage. Then, we can boomerang around to the fact that an 18-45 demographic is probably busy on Friday nights whether it's partying with friends, dates, ect. HOWEVER, I think that due to the "omg CM Punk is returning!" is what gave them such a strong rating there. That's the anomaly right now.

Let's be honest, Rampage is nothing more than a glorified Sunday Night Heat as it stands right now. You look at the cards and you can pick out who's winning every match probably pretty close to every time. Sure you'll get your IC vs. ATT type matches like tonight, but Punk vs. Daniel Garcia or Punk vs. Matt Sydal. I mean c'mon, we all know who's winning those.

I'd really be tempted to almost just throw Rampage on at 7 or even head to head for the first hour of SD at 8 at this rate, assuming they have to stay on Friday nights. I heard TK talking about how they aren't running Full Gear on a Sunday to prevent him from going head to head with the NFL which makes sense since they are both his businesses. By process of elimination, that takes away Sunday, Monday, and Thursday from any potential AEW shows if I had to guess. That leaves you Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I doubt they'd want to have Rampage air a week later so Tuesday would probably be off the table leaving only Friday and Saturday.

Personally, I always thought it would be cool if they could get BTE on national TV. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love the interactions and just zaniness that takes place and think that could really appeal to the non wrestling fans out there.

I’m not sure that it being taped is as much of an issue as it is being taped after a 2 hour show and some dark matches. The crowd just doesn’t have the same juice.

As far as time slots Friday at 10 is obviously terrible. I was hoping they’d get the old WCW Saturday Night time slot had and still hope it’s moved there at some point.

Britt is not as horribly green as Jade is, and Britt often rises to the caliber of the person she's in the ring against.  Problem is that she can't be in the ring with Thunder Rosa every night.  Even Shida and Tay Conti have their moments of awkwardness in matches that make me think that extended programs with Britt might not be a good idea.

That's why I think another women's singles title is a horrible idea.  Tag belts would be better so that then you could tie a rocket to Jade and Nyla and cover up Jade's weaknesses by giving her a partner.

Personally, I'd put the belt on either Ruby, Rosa, or Serena Deeb next.

I agree that they should have done tag titles for the women instead but if they use the TBS title similar to the TNT title where there are lots of open challenges—maybe that could be a way for them to bring in some veterans with tv experience to help carry the multitude of green girls on the roster.

  9. Does anyone know if Sky Blue vs Jade was the first of the tbs tournament matches, or just a match between the competitors?

Anyway, I thought commentary was pretty hilarious tonight. “CM punk goes flying… like Mussolini…or Gandhi…or Kennedy. That really cracked me up. Taz being in despair when Starks was in trouble in his match was probably the best part of it too.

If I were Tony Khan, I'd try to sign Paige van Zant and let Dan Lambert & co. hit the bricks.

An otherwise enjoyable show. I'm glad Adam Page was the joker. It was predictable, but the right move instead of a suprise for the sake of a surprise. I feel like Kenny/Page has to be at Full Gear.

I wonder if Christian was legit injured on the IndyTaker or if it was just an angle. Maybe it's setting up Christian turning on Jungle Boy after he drops another fall to the Elite.

I like Hikaru Shida starting her march to 50 wins with a loss. Serena Deeb was the perfect opponent to spoil the party for Shida. Hopefully, we get Shida getting more desperate along the way and resorting to dirty tactics.

It looked like Christian’s head was a good 3 feet from the ground, so I don’t think so. Maybe he got hurt earlier and that’s how they got him out of the match-it was a little weird that the announcers didn’t stress his injury or the uneven odds more.

Anyway, I really liked JR saying what I was thinking about them having a trophy for Shida before the match and love that she ended up losing. Deeb being so vicious in the match was also a nice touch and made the match better.

I thought Sammy and Fish had a really good match. The crowd signing Jericho’s song to drown out Lambert was probably the best use of that by the crowd so far —Jericho going toe to toe with the former UFC HW champ and causing him to bail was a little ridiculous though.

Glad Hangman is back and won. Looking forward to his first interaction with Adam Cole and winning the title.

On top of him being a dickhead, he's also a bruv idiot that is very cringe.

I’m not sure what you mean by bruv. I looked it up on urban dictionary and it said it was southern London slang for brother, so I don’t know if you mean he’s a bro/meat head but I think I might be missing some connotations to the British slang since there are probably lots of meat heads still in the wrestling business.

But there is no possible way he can be dumber or more cringe than Joey Janela.

And unlike Janela (who I am amazed still has a job after the debacle with Hangman), he could actually have amazing matches with numerous people in AEW.

The rest of the stuff sounds like he was probably being a bit of a dick to someone who was mean to his gf, so not the best co-worker but a good boyfriend. But I don’t think the backstage politics of Independent wrestling promotions should have any bearing on him being anywhere in the future.

Especially, since I just want to see more awesome matches.

Osprey doesn't bother me as much as the rest of you, but it wouldn't make sense to bring in Osprey and I don't know if he'd want to come in and do so reckless match like this.

Why would anyone be bothered by Osprey? I don’t watch a lot of New Japan but every match I’ve seen of his has been pretty spectacular.

I love all of these possibilities, and would be happy with any of them, but should they land Kevin Steen, my prediction is that the real "bidding war" story will be told between a split group of Kenny/Good Bros and Cole/Bucks

Before it gets there, I’m actually curious to see how they handle Hangman Page (assuming he returns in the near future) and Adam Cole—since Cole obviously wasn’t a part of Hangman’s falling out with them.

I think everyone is missing LBO Lio and what he’s about. He’s not a stonk bro who put it all on GameStop ($GSE).

He is a high finance corporate raider looting out the remnants of a steel company or laying off the staff of once prestigious regional newspapers. He had a Goldman Sachs partnership track that we probably did not know about when he was on the Maryland indie scene.

Man I really want to write his promos and have him talking about how he securitizes his debt and sells it off to Credit Suisse or things like that. I want as much arcane finance stuff as possible. I want him to announce he laid off Trent Berrerta’s mom from the stationary store she works for because he bought out their holding company and is closing all the stores just because he can.

I may be the only person in that target audience but god damn it give it to me!

A heel announcing that his opponents family was now unemployed because he’d laid them all off or closed there business down to make profits in stock or whatever would be unique and a pretty great way to get some heat.

Basically basing a character off of Paul Singer. It’s a billionaire and much more evil version of the million dollar man.

Not sure they intend on going down that route but it’d be fascinating if they did.

I'm always making fun of Adam Cole for being 137 lbs., but that doesn't really bother me when he gets in the ring.  It's wrestling not real life, I don't have to believe Adam Cole would win a shoot fight against his opponent to believe he can win a pro wrestling match against his opponent.  Seriously, I remember running into Shawn Michaels at an airport, and I looked at him and thought I might weigh more than him.  I'm 5'7" and about 203, if we got into a fight I'd like my chances.  I guess I can't watch Hell in a Cell any more, because I can't see him winning a fight against The Undertaker.

I hate to tell you this about pretty much every pro wrestling move, but it's damn near impossible to do any of this shit to anyone without them helping.  There is this thing called the Irish Whip, where you grab someone's arm and push them in the back and they will run forever unless you knock them down.  If you can justify that in your mind, why not a double northern light's suplex?

The Irish whip used to be performed by the person doing it squatting low to generate leverage (or create the appearance of doing that) but know that you mention it, I don’t think a lot of guys don’t do that anymore.

Marko Stunt Irish Whipping Wardlow or even just any average sized person would look absolutely ridiculous if they actually went with it. And I would complain about that if I was ever somehow tricked into watching a Marko Stunt match.

Anyway, the idea is to not make the cooperation so transparent, especially to the point of being comical or eye roll inducing.

And it’s not just about the move but who is performing the moves and who they’re being performed on.

The notion that someone like Matt Jackson could lift two near or over 200lb men above his head on each arm is laughable to begin with. So you start from a place of disbelief and then when it’s performed the cooperation is just too obvious. Maybe it looked better when he wrestled smaller guys on the indies but he should probably retire it in AEW.

I don’t know if Scott Steiner ever performed the move but given his size how physically strong and impressive he was even before he became a juice head, and how explosively he performed moves, if he did, I bet it looked a lot better.

So I’m not necessarily against the move but against a smaller high flyer doing power moves on guys that are around his size or bigger.

He’s a “Skilled fighter” in professional wrestling. Skilled fighters can use their opponents weight to their advantage. Especially one like Matthew Jackson, who is skilled at doing double Northern Lights Suplex’s.

Skilled fighters can’t use their opponents weight to lift more weight than they’re capable of lifting over their heads on each arm.

His opponents are very clearly jumping with him as he falls backwards.

They got part of the book, and are respected vets of their own industry. They get to do whatever the heck they want at this point of the current wrestling style. No amount of talking about somebody’s height will turn back time.

They may be able to do it but Matt Jackson reversing double team move into double suplexes on guys his size or bigger will never not look ridiculous to me.

And that really doesn’t have anything to do with his height but his mass and how strong he actually looks—not strong enough to do that without lots of cooperation.

And the Bucks getting up and going on offense about 30 seconds after getting dropped on their heads will never not annoy me but I understand that good selling is less important to modern wrestling fans.

No kidding! I was gonna point that out, too. It’s why so many of these arguments just fall apart. Like when Corny talks about how the Young Bucks look like they can’t win a real fight as if Beautiful Bobby and Loverboy Dennis looked like the fucking Bruiser and Crusher rolling into a bar.

I’m pretty sure they were actually big guys by normal people standards and certainly bigger than the Bucks.

And I think everyone can admit some of the no selling the Bucks do and Matt Jackson reversing attempted double team moves into him double suplexing his opponents is a little absurd.
