  1. what was so strange about that Ospreay-Scurll match to me is that it is a match they have done 15-20 times in the UK and it usually brings the house down but here it was just pathetic. I had high hopes for Scurll in NJPW but his shtick is grating.

  2. good stuff, enjoyed the write-up! wasn't concerned where it landed on the list really. I sort of wrote 'Pets' off at first, it has a nice 80s aerobics VHS quality but the lyrics are kind of like 'yeah I get it John' but on a few more listens the intricacy of all the stuff in the middle brought it home, that marriage of the utterly simple and the complex. idk. he's just my kind of artist and yeah the way he talks about music is incredibly energising, he's not ashamed of influences pre-even temperament or just outright philosophising wildly. strange guy, completely for real. he's got a band now.

  3. yeah some guys should just not do the social media game, whether for gimmick or just because they can't handle it. I'm sure it's helped some indy guys get better bookings and leaking stuff to sources has some way of benefiting everyone, but there's just a time where you need to be above/away from the fans on and offline.

Read the indy thread.  She's accusing one of Elgin's trainees of rape, not Elgin.   Somehow, Elgin got sucked in to the situation (or, more likely, injected himself), supported the woman in publicly, then talked shit about her in private and basically hinted she was a ring rat who either deserved it or was making things up.  The stuff he said in private got back to her, she made it public, and Elgin keeps taking to Twitter to make it worse.  He seems kinda like a dim bulb who is in over his head.

I posted in there too. I'm referring to this tweet though:

  5. just read the broader context of those messages and if I am thinking right that is the person accusing Elgin of some kind of sexual impropriety so that's a bit more understandable, still, no need to make Jeff Cobb's life more of a pain than it is.

  6. it was a weird time in the 00s and sure it killed the houses but I would like to lightly squash the notion that it was all bad and Inoki Is Crazy. I give credit to them for trying to go with the times and keep being creative. You hear some really weird stuff from that time but when you watch the shows they're all sincere and trying to make it work. And some of it does!

  7. Dylan Hales was against the Suzuki induction but I disagree. It's probably fair to say that Suzuki is in a popularity bubble now and maybe in 10 years time his stock could fall rather than rise (particularly if hi-octane super-go wrestling becomes more normalised) but a lot of stuff in wrestling is timing, even the entry to an ultimately meaningless Hall of Fame for a newsletter that apparently half of the boys in the back hate anyway . However, Hales did make the point that no lucha induction from a packed field is something of a travesty and I agree with that.

  8. I really rate Archer, think he's had some completely good matches in a range of styles, I enjoy seeing him and I think he's one of the more generous wrestlers on social media even if he's doing it in character. Smith is frustrating because I think he's had better matches than Archer and has the predigree, credentials, and skills of a STAR but never quite puts it together. Good tag team at a bad time.

  9. I think Tanahashi is the absolute MASTER of the subtle dig from what I have read in translation. Or he'll give a compliment and then follow it up with a negative. Just little character (real person?) traits that make him really delightful, like his hating handshakes, a real artist imo

You should read Gary Hart's book. Lewin has lived an interesting life to say the least and is like the Gary Oldman of pro-wrestling. Would change his look and persona completely over the years.

thank you. following up wrestling in the outposts has been a recent thing of mine (LA LUTTE SENEGAL) so this sounds exactly my thing.

  11. never heard of Mark Lewin, does that mean he's more famous in Australia than Australia's Favourite Wrestler Will Ospreay?

Pleased for Suzuki, his career could so easily have been viewed in a harsher light - never the top guy in UWF, Pancrase was pioneering but never took off like PRIDE or UFC, Triple Crown holder when it was less valued - but stylistically diverse, incredible character, longevity, quietly inspirational too with his fashion empire and his obvious deep love of Takayama and One Piece, etc. also still has his marbles and a working body - perhaps someone you could hold up to a lot of rookies today as an actual role model.

no qualms with any of the ones going in. just would have had Tamura in too.

  12. there was that Pro Wrestling LOVE show that had NOAH, AJPW, and NJPW guys on one card in 2012 I think. Main event was Tanahashi-Makabe and Akiyama-Kea and they mainly did mixed tags. 40th anniversary. think this followed on from some charity shows the three did in 2011.
