  1. Soooooo many magazines from back in the day. Aside from the three already mentioned: Video Watchdog, Cult Movies, Asian Cult Cinema, Film Threat, Oriental Cinema, She, Baddazz Mofo, Outre, Scarlet Street, Neon, Videoscope....  that's not even getting into any of the more "serious" stuff like Film Comment or CineAction. It's no wonder I'm poor today.

And I liked your pick, despite your disclaimer. ?

I don't know if it was by design or oversight but you didn't mention the creepiest Woman in Black appearance in your review. Glad you enjoyed the film. I've never seen the 2012 version because I never felt like it could improve upon '89.

Glad TJ Dillashaw lost, really didn't want him to win for how he cheated with EPO. Even if he didn't, he was never the Bantamweight GOAT, that's Dominick Cruz.

    This as well:

One of my least favourite fighters ever, actually might be my #1.

As far as the last sentiment of that tweet: Hey, sports betting is a sucker's game. Assuming "millions" actually bet on him, don't feel sorry for any of them. Do feel bad for Yan and Katlyn. They were both robbed.

    * I guess I shouldn't feel bad for Katlyn since she missed weight. I still think she clearly won two rounds. But live by point fighting, die by point fighting.

  4. I would joke that it is better than the film you picked but that would be an obvious lie. I agree that it would make a great Saturday matinee watch though instead of pairing it with Billy the Kid Versus Dracula, I'd go for the contrast of a Godzilla film.

This is an honest question: Would you like me to give you something for a bonus review that you really like? It could be something at random or something you really like, I don't care. You're the biggest booster of this whole deal and for me to give you something that offends you so much doesn't seem fair.

I already have a couple of bonuses and an extra that I picked up that I am working on now. I tried to make it clear that I viewed it as luck of the draw, so I'm not in any way offended. Frankly, I was pretty sure it was your pick and you're OK in my book. ?  I just am not into cannibal films or any films that strike me as gore for gore's sake. And like I posted a few minutes ago, I'm a hypocrite.

Having said all that, I'll take any film you got. Just won't promise you a positive review.

  6. Quoting myself from 2016:

I was definitely disappointed to get Angel Heart as my pick. I had hoped to get something outside of my wheelhouse that would push me to examine my tastes as a film lover and ,specifically, deal with some of the many dark corners of the Horror genre that I have never had any interest in investigating. Oh well, maybe next year.

    Obviously I'm a hypocrite.

I looked up who of those 50ies stars are still around and realized that actresses in big post war Hitchcock movies had a pretty good chance to get old: Eva Marie Saint (98, North by Northwest), Vera Miles (93, The Wrong Man), Tippi Hedren (92, The Birds and Marnie), Kim Novak (89, Vertigo) and Shirley MacLaine (88, The Trouble with Harry) are still alive and Doris Day (The Man Who Knew Too Much) reached the age of 97. Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly push the average down a bit, but still.

Interesting but Did she ever appear in a Hitchcock film? I'm blanking on it if she did.

Imagine watching this movie in 1944(!) and knowing instantly, that girl is going to be a huge star.

    Angela's debut, in Gaslight

(And this movie is where the term came from, fyi.)

Honestly, she is the tipping point for this over the 1940 version.

George Jones did more drugs and got up to crazier shit than most of us could even imagine so this has the potential to be amazing.

I'm right in the middle of the 2nd season of the Cocaine & Rhinestones podcast. Most of the season is devoted to George Jones. Will be interesting to see how much of that stuff turns up in this show. This looks as well cast as it could possibly be.

Oh, I totally understand and support people wanting to see representations of themselves in the television shows and movies that they watch.  My issue with Velma being outed is that her physical appearance lends itself to stereotypical assumptions about her sexuality.  Velma is the DUFF of Mystery Inc ladies so now she is also queer?  That's pretty weak.  I'd have been more impressed if they'd announced that Fred was gay and that Daphne has been his beard all this time.

    https://www.cracked.com/article_31732_the-real-life-gay-inspiration-behind-scooby-doos-velma.html

I wasn't aware of the Dobie Gillis connection* because it wasn't one of those shows to hit syndication in my area. Makes perfect sense though. I presume Velma was strictly intended to be Daphne's opposite and it morphed from kid's saying that she was weird to she's a lesbian and the gay community embraced it because why not? She's the brains of the outfit.

And I'm assuming you are aware that the Fred thing is a thing. It just doesn't have the legs that the Velma theory....now fact, I guess...has had all of these years.

*Though I guess I could have just read it on Wikipedia.
