and then suddenly Murphy was joined to Rollins and that was the end for both him and Black doing anything even slightly interesting and that just sucks.

And just to be sure I have this right, he turned face, joined the Mysterios, they dropped the angle, took him off tv for a few months then brought him back to join up with Rollins again. Without even trying to explain it, or write a story or anything.

This is why the almost the entire roster is a bunch of dudes. They give you no reason to even care, because it's clear they don't.

  2. I stopped watching WWE a few years ago because at some point most of it felt insulting to me, in the way that it seems like they don't care about the audience. For example, I listen to one review show a week about the weekly programming and apparently WWE is doing the same old SS schtick about "the one time a year". An entire year of people moving back and forth from brand to brand and drafts and whatever else and now SS matches with no stakes and nothing on the line and who would care?

It's obvious most of it is just last minute, thrown together dogshit, like 75% of the show. They don't care.

In an effort to limit social media, I watch AEW in a vacuum and I rarely go into the threads on here. Funny thing, thing, this pandemic has made me want LESS interaction with people, not more.

You know how you can quickly tell that someone doesn't "get it" when it comes to wrestling? When they say winning streak gimmicks or storylines don't work because what do you do when they have to lose. This is something Bruce Prichard would say all the time. I've heard another booker here or there say the same thing. That's your job, dummy! That's what you're supposed to figure out. Also, huh, that winning streak gimmick really didn't work except for the whole part with Goldberg becoming the biggest draw in the company. As for how you have Goldberg lose, there's definitely ways to do it, but the way Bischoff booked it sure as hell wasn't it.

Remember when Ryback debuted and the crowd clowned on him by chanting "Goldberg"?

Then the WWE gave him a winning streak like Goldberg.

Then he started getting over like Goldberg.

Then he was getting the biggest pops on the show.

Then they squashed that like they do with everything else, but my point remains. That big meathead Ryback got over as hell, and I'm pretty confident his winning everything was the biggest reason.

Vince will never do it, but for the good of wrestling, NXT and AEW should be kept on separate nights. It's in WWE's best interests to do that. The more they can grow NXT viewership wise, the more people will tune in to eventually see those people get ruined on Raw or SD! They're never going to get anywhere competing on the same night.

I'm shocked that USA hasn't figured out that that they are basically paying Vince to be a dick to his competition. If I'm paying for the show and I can easily get more viewers on Tuesday, you're doing it Tuesday.

I would say it shouldn't be filmed like a typical in arena brawl or match.

Which is why, while I can accept the arguments for it, I personally didn't consider the Backlot brawl as a cinematic match.  The Hardy Compound matches I just forgot about.

I mean some of the old Hardcore Title stuff would almost qualify as "cinematic" if the only criteria is shot outside the arena/stadium/parkling lot where Ian Rotten set up to grift some locals...

Well then there is that Kota Ibushi "match" where he went through an apartment and umm, wrestled a bunch of people. Unless someone slipped me a hit of acid and I dreamed that.

  6. I can't imagine a bigger difference in using old, established names on a show then the one between Jericho and JR.

Jericho has established himself as an all-timer, really a unique career and has added so much to AEW.

I know they have JR for the name value, but he comes across as an old, out of touch grouch. When the hell did he decide it was ok to talk about business exposing stuff? Bill Watts would punch him right on the throat if he heard that crap. At this point, they just don't need him and it's time to cycle him "down the card".

Austin will forever be linked with Jerry Springer, crash TV, South Park, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, etc, despite having very little in common bar sharing a complaint letter from Phil Muschnik.

I think he may be linked to these things, but I think he was the perfect picture for the counter culture movement of the 90's. It went from the glitz and glitter of the 80's to the grunge, no nonsense straight forward approach. Rock music would be my best comparison.

Wasn't 80's WWF always some combo of Vince, Pat, Gorilla, and Scott?

I think so, but it was always booked in the traditional way of giving direction and letting the wrestlers go perform and get over the stories. It slowly morphed into the sterile, plastic robot show it is now.

What the heck was that prop suitcase made of? Sometimes it looks safe, but then other times guys get busted open hardway from it.

I think it was just a regular metal case, not too heavy. But if you think about it, if it hit you flush on the flat side, that is not a big deal. Anywhere else might suck though. Which leads me to a memory stuck in my head somewhere: I think maybe it was during the JJ/Horsemen angle, and Mongo was going to hit JJ with the case in a match against Benoit. Debra held the case back which made Mongo hesitate, and he accidentally hits Benoit. Except instead of hitting him with the flat side he blasts him with the edge of the case and puts a nasty gash right on Benoit's forehead.
