  1. Everybody from Eric,Chris,Konnan and even Russo himself denied it. Meltzer open up a can of worms.

This promotion cannot catch a break from the talent pay, fake fans, spending too much and now Russo. its only been 13-14 weeks. I guess its part of the territory.

  2. I loved the show as well. Thought El Patron came off like a big star and Texano look great as well.

Pentagon Jr is finally getting pushed. I wonder if the wrestlers will come back and get revenge on him?

I like how the commentary said that Cuerno hunting Mundo because he is friends with Puma and trying to get to him. They already planted the seeds for a future feud.

Mundo has been the best in-ring performer on the show so far in my opinion.

  3. I really like Angelico, I think he would be a star in WWE or TNA.

I love LU and ROH on Sinclair, so its going to be interesting to see how both companies book Del Rio. He probably have better matches in ROH since they will be giving more time.

  4. Lucha Underground Report 1/21/15

    In real time, baby!

A thought from the end of the last ep: did Cage put that 'X' in black tape on his elbow region to keep the muscles from blowing out?

Pimpi/Mascarita vs. Cisco/Castro: Everyone gets great heat for their entrances. The double corner Ryder kicks (I guess?) were just nuts. We get our first reference of the episode as Striker references Dick Togo. Pimpi has some great chops that didn't sound sweetened for a change, just naturally loud, and I really enjoy his slighly sloppy dual armdrags/headscissors and dives. He also threatened to kiss the ref again and the pop for that will be huge when he finally gets it. After Mascarita gets pinned, Big Ryck gets jumped and I don't buy him not taking all three of them out for one minute but the cigar burning is nasty. Fun little opening match with Los Cholos being workrate asskickers and Pimpi and Mascarita doing their thing.

Hey guys, Deathdream isn't a giallo. You just played The Black Belly of the Tarantula, stick that in the marathon instead and keep Deathdream separate. (it is really awesome to see them pimping giallo films just like the spaghetti western spot they've been airing though)

Cage totally blew that last line. "You know why they call me Cage? Because when I'm in the ring, it's like being in there with a machine." Seriously? You can't even get the final noun right? You can't say, "Because when you're in the ring with me, it's like being locked in a cage, there's no escape" or something similar? Phew... stick with juicing up and powerbombing people please.

Pentagon Jr. vs. Superfly: Vampiro claims to be a martial arts guru... hahahahaha. Well, the slaps/chops seem sweetened again. Pentagon does a good job at responding to Superfly's flying backwards to turn his moves around on him. Very nice Tiger Drop from Superfly, but to no avail. At least a package piledriver wasn't a fucking transition move in one of these matches for a change. Pentagon shit-talks Chavito. I expected more from this, neither guy seemed to gel well and Superfly just came off stupid for constantly turning his back on Pentagon. If it got 2/3 falls on a CMLL midcard I wonder if it'd be any better, or even be any longer.

Sexy Star vs. El Mariachi Loco: So Mariachi Loco is your jobber whos backstory is like if Dirk Diggler didn't go into porn. Or succeed at his chosen profession, either. Sexy proceeds to beat on him and flip him around a bunch and as a result comes off way better than usual, because Loco will stooge and bump around for her. Aside from a botched hot shot this was a really entertaining, short mixed match where the two sides actually seemed even.

Still kicking myself for not watching Rats: Night of Terror when I rented it years ago. Thank you again El Rey, for putting a shitty Bruno Mattei movie on your network when absolutely nobody else would.

King Cuerno vs. Drago (Last Luchador Standing): Can Drago swallow that black goo? Apparently it's edible? Anyway, this is the blowoff to the feud. Running the ropes four times is a bit ludicrous. Vampiro and Striker are really good in this one, getting over different points of psychology. Ha, Cuerno put the deer head on one of the ringposts. It's clear this is going to be a series of big spots but they're getting over the differences of speed/offence in the characters. Damn, the Arrow from Hell plancha turns Drago backwards onto his belly. MDII through the table is a big enough spot to end the match, but Cuerno ups it with the rope (in the mouth, too!) wrapping him up in the corner as he kicks him in the head and then chokes him out during the count. If this were another era they'd take a bullrope match around the loop. This felt like an extended version of their last match with a way cooler ending. Cuerno putting the deer's head on Drago is the literal cherry on top and he soaks in the heat, another reason he's still my favorite wrestler in the fed. Good stuff and I still don't think this was completely a blowoff but they got both guys over bigtime.

I am glad I am not the only one loving King Cuerno. He's been great so far.

Disappointed they're not following up with Muertes/Morrison.

  5. I guess the lighting is to not let the fans hijack the show. In the Impact Zone, fans would takeover a show with every silly chant in the book and you would see the same silly faces every week. I still remember the red head guy in the front row of Impact and Idk why. I guess the lighting and sound volume will make the audience tolerable.

  6. Well, TNA can make people with good talent look bad. I think Tenay is a better announcer when discussing Puro and Lucha Libre related things. Tenay and Jim Ross is a front runner for the New Japan ppv from what I am hearing.

Unless Mike Tenay is free by the next tapings, I don't really see anyone else that can announce Lucha in English. Konnan would have been perfect in vampiro role. Imagine Tenay and Konnan calling the action.

This is the first time in like 12 years that I've seen somebody actually request Mike Tenay as a good announcing option.

  7.

Why can't they just have Hugo do both the spanish and English commentary? He used to do it for WWC.

I think this is probably about having a familiar face for WWE (English) language announcing. Vampiro's there because he speaks English, people might remember him from WCW, and he might know something about lucha in that order. As much as they have Striker do "we're not WWE!" bits, they want hispanic-ish talent familiar to people who watch WWE. Hugo wasn't on WWE TV enough.

If Pete or anyone else is watching the repeat on Saturday morning on El Rey, it looks like it moves to 6:30pm Sunday starting next week.

Think they running a marathon next Sunday but will return to Saturday the week after next.

  8. I actually like Striker on commentary, though I agree Vamp isn't the guy to execute a whole lot of control on his goofier tendencies.

Wednesday nights are always bad for me (it's our weekly "happy hour") so I'm hoping they have replays at more opportune times. It isn't like El Rey at all to beat their programming into the ground.   -_-

There is about 3 replays on the schedule.

I hope El Rey let them have a 5 minute overrun in the future. They really need an extra 5 minutes to let things soak in.

  9. I wouldn't call the show dreadful but I do feel like they were rushing everything until they got to the main event.

I am more excited about episode 3 than 2. The man of a 1000 deaths is coming next week.

I think Sexy Star losing her first intergender match was smart and realistic. They can build to her first win and make it a huge deal.

Puma/Morrison was basically a Sting/Flair situation with the veteran winning round 1.

  10. I don't know why I like Matador but I love it. Nicky Whelan is great.

I like watching the reruns of the X files. Dolemite and Switchblade Sisters were fun to watch as well.

Hopefully Lucha underground turns out to be fun.
