Does announcing a so-so card potentially set a ceiling on viewership or let people know they don't need to prioritize watching live? Is there something to be said of Tony maybe wanting to announce a couple top-level things and see what happens?

There's no hockey or basketball tonight, so AEW wins the night in sports viewership by default

Game 3 of the NBA Finals is next Wednesday, so that's a bigger problem

Paul Heyman isn't quite a Vince Jr. level scumbag, but man does he come close.

yeah I didn't remember Tammy's on-camera ECW interview at all, that was horrifying

I do remember Heyman supposedly making Tammy and Chris promise to get college degrees before they could go back on the road for ECW, but I don't see how shaming them publicly would help with that

Absolutely. Outside interference, beyond-logic-incompetent refs, and all thee 'bells et whistles' are being applied nonstop and ad nauseam. Seeing as the P(ay)PV reps the end of a cycle it shouldn't be a big ask for some straight up wrestling with a satisfying finish.

I feel like Will Washington having no experience in writing is going to bite them in the ass.

Tony's on the right track by wanting someone like Chris Kreski to plot out long-term storylines, but Kreski had a decade of television writing under his belt by the time he got to WWE. Washington has probably never even seen a storyboard.

I’m not sure if you’re referring to me or Eddie, but people like Ospreay and ZSJ are definitely going to be on the All In card. Probably McGuinness too.

    Ospreay/Omega 3

Ospreay's already committed to working Shingo the day before All In for RevPro

If you're Tony, do you trust putting Ospreay in the main event of your giant stadium show when he could get hurt the night before? I'd think an undercard match would be more likely.

As meticulous as alot of these matches are planned out these days , you'd think they'd have less people doing the same spots thar were done earlier in the card. Then again,  with wrestlers in the past not having having to plan thing out just as much probably was a reason you didn't see some of the same stuff over and over.

It's like how stand-up comedy before the 1970s was very much a collaboration, and you'd get other comedians to tour with you on the vaudeville circuit and make sure before each show that you weren't doing the same jokes as the other guy.

"You're doing the one about the Rabbit tonight? Ok I'll do some prop comedy and close with my In-Law jokes."

And if there was a joke of someone else's you really liked, you could buy it from another comic and he'd promise not to use it again.

But then Los Angeles became competitive, and you'd have everyone accusing each other of stealing jokes. Robin Williams famously would get cornered by guys accusing him of stealing their material, and have to bribe them to go away.

I remember I was at some indie show 20 years ago with Kid Kash vs. AJ Styles, and a bunch of fans had seen them wrestle in another city the night before. Right before the finish, one of the fans yells out "SAME FINISH AS LAST NIGHT?" and Kash just started cracking up and yelled back "you know it brother!".

Cheap travel and videotape ruined the art of live performance. You no longer have to wait for the circus to come to town  - it's just a quick drive or click away.

It also doesn't help that he's in the same company as Darby Allin now who just throws his body around worse than Mick Foley in his prime that shows that violence.

Cole has admitted that on the first day of wrestling training, DJ Hyde had him and other students bumping on concrete

You can take the man out of CZW, but you can't take the CZW out of the man

It’s prob not easy nowadays with all the highspots and dangerous stuntman bumps up and down the card. Hard to imagine either company putting a lot of restrictions on talent so stuff can be saved for the main event.

One interesting part of Tajiri's autobiography where he transcribed his diaries from working with WWE was that one of the roles of WWE agents was to make sure matches on the card weren't similar, and that one Vince-ism was "only every-other match on a card can have chops"

Seems like a lost art, and there's clearly some shows where agents don't talk to each other and the same spots get repeated in multiple matches

  8. Was Sheamus beating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28 the first World Title match to open a pay per view?

In times of a brand split, it makes sense to use one heavyweight title to pop the crowd in the opener when they're already guaranteed a second title match later in the card

  9. Tony Khan: I've Talked With Goldberg, What I've Talked To Him About Is Between Us

"Yeah, I have talked to Bill. It wouldn’t be that unusual. I’ve talked to Bill when he’s not been under contract at times, and I have a good relationship with Bill. I have had a good conversation with him, but I’ve had a lot of great conversations with Bill. His family has done a lot of great things in Jacksonville, he’s related to the Wolfson family, who built the Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville. Bill is a great former football star, I worked in football, and it’s a big part of my life. We have a lot in common and we have a lot of mutual friends, and I have a really good relationship with Bill. I like him a lot. As to what I’ve talked to him about, I would say that’s just between the two of us. It was a good chat. I like Bill a lot, he’s a great guy"

I think more people are crapping on Cole than Jericho, but I do agree with you for the most part. Especially with storylines, just like when Cody was here, the blame gets out on the worker instead of the booker. Jericho has a pretty good track record of having good matches throughout every year of AEW.

My first thought when watching that mess was "Jericho took everyone out drinking in Vegas the night before and he told Cole not to worry about planning the match"

Sabu came out of it looking better than anyone

I think Jade needs to stay away from belts for a bit. Now that she doesn't need to be invincible, a real extended back and forth feud would be the best thing for her continued development. She's been stuck in a loop of squash matches and one competitive match every two months. Put her with someone like Shida, or Deeb if you turn her face, and let them go at it for a couple months. Jade is destined to be champ one day, but now you have the freedom to put her into low stakes, high reward matches and try to build a memorable feud for her beyond the Goldbergian who's next thing she's been doing for a year.

Loan her to New Japan/Stardom for 6 months and then she can work Mercedes after she's healed up

Did JR have a more censored version of the Heenan/Pillman "What the F are you doing?" moment at the Clash? He yelled "Hey! Stupid!" at one point and no attention was brought to it. Excalibur said at one point their ankles were getting bumped into, so I wonder if that happened to JR (what with his surgery scar and all).

JR throwing to Alex Marvez in the most unenthusiastic way possible was really, really funny

RJ City was good on the preshow and really deserves that spot a lot more
