It should come as no surprise that Don Callis and Impact Wrestling are hoping to make a talent-sharing arrangement with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Callis would likely love to bring Kenny Omega and others into Impact for a show or two.

Taiji Ishimori competes for both promotions but according to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we shouldn’t expect many more to do the same.

“At least one NJPW wrestler asked about going to Impact and got a very negative reaction,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

Impact officials have met with NJPW officials and even apologized for Kazuchika Okada’s negative excursion experience under a different Impact management. It appears NJPW is still not ready to do business with them again, however.

Impact Wrestling and NJPW Talent Sharing

It should be noted that the report is not clear on who the one wrestler in question is, who they got the reaction from, or if it is reflective of a general attitude the promotion still carries. Still, the report makes it clear that a wrestler from NJPW contacted Dave Meltzer and said NJPW didn’t want them wrestling for Impact Wrestling. That’s a significant development considering how badly Impact likely wants to strike a deal for NJPW talent.

NJPW has a long-standing talent-sharing agreement with Ring of Honor. Even though Impact’s television and live event markets are international, NJPW likely feels Impact is a competitor of ROHs similar to the relationship between CMLL and AAA.

Last week, reports were that WWE officials met with Scott D’Amore and Ed Nordholm from Impact Wrestling. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer, it was WWE who reached out to Impact for the meeting and not the other way around. Previous reports had stated it was Impact doing the pitching but that is now being refuted.

“It was WWE that requested the meeting, that Impact pitching as we reported was not correct,” Meltzer wrote. He would continue to say that reports of Impact being up for sale are not true.

“It was said that no deal of any note came out of the meeting and that while Impact has been a huge money loser for most of its existence, the bleeding money of 2017 has also been turned around this year and it’s a much more efficient business.”

While it appears not much of note came out of the meeting, the two sides appear to have a far more agreeable working relationship than ever before.

“As far as the meeting goes, really the only thing being said is that the days when the two sides were enemies are supposed to be over.”

Don Callis was not said to be in attendance during the meetings, however.

Speaking of last week's Mexico City tapings (which will start airing this Thursday on Pop), they were pointed to by several wrestlers as a sign of how the Impact Wrestling locker room has really started to congeal as a unit.  Impact covered all travel and expenses for talents working the tapings, including meals, transit on the ground and hotels.  We were told that even talents who's deals require the company to provide them their own hotel room willingly offered to share a room with other talents in order to help Impact keep the costs affordable and the entire trip turned into something of a big bonding experience for the locker room overall.  One talent told me it was most the locker room has felt like "one team" in a long time.

Impact Wrestling Negotiating New Deals with Talents

It doesn’t look like Anthem Sports will be selling Impact Wrestling anytime soon.

Mike Johnson reported on the latest installment of PWInsider Elite Audio that Impact Wrestling has been negotiating new deals with talents.

“We’ve heard from multiple sources that why they were in Mexico they did start negotiating some new deals with talents including LAX and some others. So anyone who thinks that they are just trying to unload it, they probably wouldn’t be trying to lock in people to new contracts if they were looking to dump this thing.”

WWE AND IMPACT OFFICIALS MEET AT WWE HQ & MORE

Impact Wrestling officials Ed Nordholm and Scott D'Amore met with several high ranking WWE executives last week at WWE HQ in Stamford, CT, PWInsider.com has confirmed with several WWE sources.  Vince McMahon was not involved in the meeting we are told, but members of Triple H's team were in attendance.

The meeting between the two companies took place in the middle of last week, after Impact officials had returned from Manchester, Great Britain and right before they headed down to Mexico City for a pair of Impact Wrestling tapings.

One WWE source described the meeting as a general discussion about the two companies and as a chance to get everyone in the same room as opposed to a a specific negotiation.  Since Impact was purchased by Anthem Media, WWE has worked with the company on several occasions, paying to license material from the TNA/Impact Wrestling video library for usage on the WWE Network, most notably the Hardy Boyz "Broken Universe" material and AJ Styles-related content.

When contacted today by PWInsider.com, Impact officials declined to comment on the nature of the meetings.  One Impact source specifically stressed that the meetings were not regarding the sale of either Impact Wrestling as a company or it's video library, stating neither are for sale.

WWE officials are interested in signing Impact Wrestling star Killer Kross, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

No word yet on if WWE has put feelers out to Kross but they are interested in the 33 year old because of his size and look. Kross stands at 6 foot 4 inches and weighs in at 265 pounds. It was noted that New Japan Pro Wrestling also has interest in signing the big man.

Kross started with Lucha Underground in 2015 and recently debuted as The White Rabbit. He began working with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in 2017 and made his Impact debut earlier this summer. Kross, who won the Rising Star Award at the 2018 Cauliflower Alley Club ceremony, is currently involved in a stable with Moose and Impact World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries.
