  1. Is this like the longest tournament ever or what? It seems like this started back in June, jesus.

Ran 20 days from 7/21 to now. The ROH World Title Tournament took two-ish months last year.

  2.

    Any word on attendance?

    18,000 is the official number.

Which is actually not a horrible number when you compare it to how they bombed at Yokohama Arena.

And in the end the typhoon didn't come and affect anything in the area. Aside from all the people sitting in the bleachers getting rained on.

Poor bastards. There were a couple of times you could see outside because of how weirdly that dome is set up and you could see that the wind was blowing pretty hard. I can't imagine it was a blast sitting in those upper bleachers.

  3. I have no idea what you two are talking about.

I'm assuming he was making fun of the people who are calling this the best tournament ever, so in return I decided to be an equal level jackass because people who do stuff like that annoy me to no end.

  4.

Well certainly not a horrible number, I think that is the highest they have ever claimed for a G1 Climax Final.

But is it good for THE BEST EVER TOURNAMENT EVER IN THE HISTORY OF PRO WRESTLING EVER?

OH MY GOD NO THIS DESERVED 3953095320582057027502704582095892485027520572 FANS PAID NO COMPS WITH A CHONO RUN IN DURING THE MAIN EVENT WHILE TENRYU TEABAGS OKADA TO WIN THE WHOLE THING AND WE ALL SHOULD BEND OVER FOR JADO AND GEDO'S BRILLIANCE AND STUFF.

...Fuck forbid people enjoy something in modern pro wrestling. Fuck everyone who called this the greatest tournament ever. EVERY ONE OF YOU (MYSELF INCLUDED) CAN GO TO HELL BECAUSE IT'S MODERN PRO WRESTLING AND FUCK THAT AND STUFF OR JUNK IDK. STUPID MELTZER SAYING THINGS ARE GOOD DON'T YOU KNOW THIS IS THE INTERNET MOTHERFUCKER WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DAVE? CERTAINLY NOT DAVE SULLIVAN SO GET THE FUCK OUT MELTZER AND SHIT.

  6. WrestleMania X-Seven is the one I really wish I could have seen live on Pay-Per-View (got fucked over on that one but I was like nine so what was I gonna do?) and watching it now it would have been amazing to have been in the building that night.

A close tie for second would be the Osaka shows from the G1 this year and last.

  7. I eventaully need to go back and watch everything, but $160 for the whole deal was a bit steep for me.  There anywhere I can just buy a Ustream for the Final night?  I can't find it and haven't done much Ustreaming before.

http://ustream.tv/njpwsub has the final for $25.

Is Suzuki/Okada from Night 10(?) worth a look, can anyone tell me?? Thanks in advance. Final night looks stacked.

Are you a fan of their title match from last year? If so, give it a shot.

  8. Nakamura vs Okada would be a very dumb move, giving away your biggest (never happened before) match with so little build up. Are they that crazy? they did put Fale in the final of the NJ Cup this year so who knows..

    Well...it actually HAS happened before---in a G1, no less!

    NJPW, 8/5/12 (WPW/iPPV)

    Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium

6,500 Fans - Super No Vacancy Full House

    7. G1 Climax - Block B: Shinsuke Nakamura [4] beat Kazuchika Okada [4] (16:16) with the Boma Ye.

  9. I actually liked that Shibata/Ishii match more than the King of Pro Wrestling one.

NJPW site updated, here's the match order tomorrow:

    1. G1 Climax – Block A: Tomoaki Honma vs. Shelton Benjamin
    2. G1 Climax – Block B: Toru Yano vs. Yujiro Takahashi
    3. G1 Climax – Block B: Hirooki Goto vs. Lance Archer
    4. G1 Climax – Block B: Tetsuya Naito vs. Karl Anderson
    5. G1 Climax – Block A: Yuji Nagata vs. Tomohiro Ishii
    6. G1 Climax – Block A: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Doc Gallows
    7. G1 Climax – Block A: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bad Luck Fale
    8. G1 Climax – Block B: Togi Makabe vs. AJ Styles
    9. G1 Climax – Block A: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
    10. G1 Climax – Block B: Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki

So Tanahashi wins the A Block, Okada wins the B Block. Nakamura and AJ wind up in the second place match.

Well, we're pretty cool with Brock crushing Cena...so at least we're consistent.

Does anyone think that Styles keeps the belt until the Dome show?

That seems to be what everyone's been thinking since he beat Okada in Yokohama.

    Saw this in the Observer:

"Tickets for the finals on 8/10 at the 33,000-seat Seibu Dome in Tokorazawa, which is about an hour North of Tokyo, are not expected to sell out, but nobody ever expected that in the first place. A crowd of more than 18,000 would be considered a major success. This is the first G-1 finals not at Sumo Hall in Tokyo, where the show in its early years and in recent years would sell out the 11,066 seats well in advance.

For the finals, the $199, $150 and $88 tickets are sold out. But the other ticket categories, which are $102, and the back of the second deck and entire third deck from $73 down to $34 are still available."

Typhoon #11 is coming this weekend . If it goes it's projected path it will hit Kyushu tomorrow and cross Honshu over the weekend. Saitama looks like it's at the very edge of the typhoon but one never knows.

From what I saw on the forecasts, it looked like Saitama was going to get spared the worst of it. At least that's how it looked to me. Wonder what they'd do about the show if shit hits the fan?

  12. You mean like Goto doing the fucking 19 count in every fucking match?

Everyone does that in every fucking match almost. It's super annoying. I don't need dudes playing dead on the floor until the counts of 15-19 and getting back in to save their asses in most of the matches.

  13. He kicks the guy in the face, then sweeps their leg out to drop them into a seated position. It's really not a bad spot but I'm tired of seeing it in every match.

You know what else I'm tired of? Dudes not hitting their big moves. Everyone tries them, misses them and THEN hits them later in the match. Let Shibata hit the PK on a motherfucker early in the match and win.

  14. Found day 9 to be highly skipable.  Some stupid ass booking and everyone was in cruise control.  Kojima vs Nakamura was pretty decent, Styles vs Anderson was fun.  You can pretty much just catch Okada/Got and be fine though.  That match kicked ass.

Well to be fair, it is arguably the smallest of the three shows prior to the final on Sunday.

  15. Saw this on the Observer:
Tomohiro Ishii is believed to have suffered a separated shoulder in his match with Davey Boy Smith Jr. in Osaka. The injury was when they were doing a Frankenseiner reveral spot and Ishii landed on his shoulder. He finished the match and still used a brainbuster for the finish. Wrestlers could not believe he still did the brainbuster.

Miraculously, at this point, no wrestler has even missed one date. Ishii has tomorrow's show in Nagoya off and is scheduled to face Katsuyori Shibata on Wednesday in Takamatsu.

  16. Nothing has topped day 4 from last year.  Day 5 was largely skippable.  I liked Nakamura/Honma, AJ/Goto and Shelton/Shibata.  I wouldn't consider anything else on the show must see.

I didn't even like the AJ/Goto match. That show as a whole was meh to me but I was really tired and that first half dragged so badly.

  17. NOMINATE: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, July 26th

No, THIS is my new MOTY. Better than the Nakamura match in that the story was a lot better. Tanahashi publicly bashed Shibata's style of wrestling and Shibata responded saying he never liked Tanahashi's style either. This came off like both guys went in to prove that their style of wrestling is better and it had enough hate to fuel World War 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. They did a nice callback to the 2013 G1 match as well.

  18. Getting into Day 3. Enjoyed everything I've watched (I'm cherry picking and haven't watched any Shelty matches so if he wins the tournament on an epic undefeated run  I'll be SOL, and you know what that means). Kojima has been the fucking jam so far. Nagata has been a lot of fun too. I mean the usual suspects are fucking aces but it's fun to see the older guys start off hot (though they won't be able to keep it up, of course.)

Hearing great things about Day 4.

Also, is there a handy-dandy place to see updated standings? Aside from Shelton being undefeated I'm not as up on the scoreboard as I need to be as we get closer to it.

    Here ya go.

    Block A:

    1. Shelton Benjamin [8]

    2. Hiroshi Tanahashi [6]

    3. Katsuyori Shibata [4]

    - Bad Luck Fale [4]

    - Satoshi Kojima [4]

    - Shinsuke Nakamura [4]

    - Tomohiro Ishii [4]

    8. Yuji Nagata [2]

    - Doc Gallows [2]

    - Davey Boy Smith Jr. [2]

    11. Tomoaki Honma [0]

    Block B:

    1. Hirooki Goto [6]

    - Tetsuya Naito [6]

    - Kazuchika Okada [6]

    4. Hiroyoshi Tenzan [4]

    - Togi Makabe [4]

    - Toru Yano [4]

    7. AJ Styles [2]

    - Yujiro Takahashi [2]

    - Minoru Suzuki [2]

    - Karl Anderson [2]

    - Lance Archer [2]

  19. NOMINATE: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, July 21st

This is my new MOTY. They go fifteen minutes and beat the absolute dog shit out of each other in a match that was, in some aspects, more like a New Japan match from a decade ago rather than something you'd see either guy doing now, which is a refreshing change of pace. It was fascinating in that regard, because they turned back the clock a bit and proved that and old school strong style match still has a place in current New Japan. The crowd was really good for this match, too.

  20. Whole second half of that show sounds spectacular. Like we were all watching the wrong PPV.

The second half of that show was incredible. The last four matches in particular delivered big time.
