  1. My understanding of the math of vote (and no one really understands Meltz math), is that if you vote for more than one guy in category diluting own votes.

I'm pretty sure this is wrong.

The voting percentage is number of votes for the candidate divided by the number of voters who say they followed that category of wrestling once.

Once you declare you followed that category, you're essentially doing YES/NO votes on everyone in that category. What really hurts is not multiple lucha candidates getting votes, it's people saying they follow a category, cherry picking a no doubter, but making the bar that much higher for everyone else.

Phil's point is, I think, more about the 10 vote limit. (Which is an illogical concept - if there's 14 guys you think should be in the HOF, then you should be able to vote 14 and not rank them somehow. Same as if you think there's 3. Cut out the gamesmanship.) People who vote on most or all of the ballots might only have a tough choice spending that last vote between (for example) Villano III or Karloff Lagarde and if we all just agreed to vote for V3, he might be off the ballot next year and we'd be all free to vote for Karloff Lagarde.

I don't know if people know enough lucha libre HOF votes and can organize them to make that work. It would probably be best done by first figuring out who the WON HOF voters, lucha ones specifically, but I don't think anyone's worked to figure out who exactly they are, or even enough of them to make a group effort like that work.

  2. Luchadors do tend to take it easy on what they concern lesser shows as much as anyone. (For the extreme opposite, see Aerostar in that match.)

    - El Hijo De Wager

Very little more than than a parody of his father right now. Passable at best.

    Psicosis II

Good in trios, very motivated at times in CMLL but wasn't at all at the end of his AAA stint and could easily see him mailing in matches

    Mascara Sagrada

wildly out of shape and no good for years - maybe decades? I think he might have been the best of these three at one point, but that point was along time ago.

  3. I somehow have a vote (and only vote in the lucha category). I am not at all intense about this. But maybe you are!

  5. He's a very good high flyer, on par with Mascara Dorada at one point a few years ago but Dorada's gotten better chances and grown more working with more experienced people. Aerostar's still pretty good.

He disappeared from TV for most of this year. Some of us made missing persons photoshops jokes, and Konnan said he'd explain what happened but to cut it out. We did, he didn't. At any rate, he turned up a couple weeks ago for a TV taping, which should start to air this weekend.

    His last TV match prior...

  6. MTVTr3S is/was airing reruns of the El Luchador reality show with CMLL.

To get halfway decent reviews of El Luchador, take every review of Total Divas where they complain about the show seeming fake and/or the characters coming off badly and find/replace El Luchador as the show title.

  7. Lucero is the Monterrey version of Navarro/Terry. He's been retired for the last 3 years but came back this year.

They were supposed to do Lucero vs Hechicero this past Sunday. Didn't see results yet.

  8.

    Rush/Maximo/Thunder vs Psicosis/Kraneo/Mr. Niebla - 7/16/13

Rush takes a break from destroying Negro Casas and basically makes this match into something. He & Niebla lay into each other, he murders Psicosis in the 3rd fall and somehow finds time in between to throw Mije into the guardrail and kick Zacarias in the face. ALL IN A DAY'S WORK FOR RUSH!

Yeah this was well worth watching pretty much all for Rush. He is getting into Terry Funk territory where his shtick is so entertaining that It literally doesn't matter who he is in with. Loved him chucking around midgets, and going at Niebla. Their slap exchange with Niebla spitting in his face, and Rush cracking him with the superkick was great. Hadn't seen Thunder before, he had a nice lariat, who is that dude?

Thunder is an Australian and that's about all we know. CMLL said he's been wrestling for five years before coming to CMLL, but we went thru the roster of every Australian indy promotion we could find and nothing matched up. Also, he generally wrestles like a guy who was trained for maybe six weeks before CMLL put him in the ring.

  9. Might as well do this again. Previous version of these posts have gone over networks and times. All of those change all this time and any thing I write now will be 20% wrong by a month from now. The best way to figure out what's going to air that week is to check my site Thursday night/Friday morning for the weekly Lucha Times post and match chart. I'm not even promising that'll be right most of time, but it's better than nothing.

On a high level... I want to get into lucha libre, what shows should I watch?

The simplest answer is just watch the TerceraCaida show - http://www.youtube.com/user/TERCERACAIDANET  - which is the highlight show you wish the US had. You'll quickly find out which people you want to see more of pretty quick.

The easiest answer is the one hour "CMLL on Fox Sports/Azteca America" show and the one and half hour "AAA on Televisa" show. That's the "A" AAA show and the closest thing to an "A" CMLL show.

The best answer is "pick and choose what sounds interesting."  Lucha libre is not like US wrestling, you do not need to watch all the matches leading up to the big match to appreciate the big match. Most CMLL feuds are simply "Luchador X beats Luchador Y three straight weeks, gets a title shot."

AAA feuds are more adventurous but, if there's an important story point, they'll show you it a video package before the big match. Jumping around to title matches or just to the guys you like is perfectly fine and will not hurt your enjoyment. There can be great matches outside of the big final matches, but a lot of the other matches are the equivalent of house show matches. There's no need to watch everything to enjoy the best matches.

Not a single one of these show is in English, or even slightly presented for new visitors. There are plenty people who help explain why things are they way they are once you start watching, but expect little help from the offical people.

Is AAA on El Rey? When is AAA on El Rey?

AAA is not on El Rey at this point. AAA will be on El Rey at some point. (AAA will be in English on El Rey.)

There really will be a point where AAA is on El Rey. It's a far distant point. Just use one of the 500 ways you have to access YouTube and go to their YouTube channel in the meantime. http://www.youtube.com/user/luchalibreaaatv/

Can I get lucha libre on Comcast/DirectTV/DishTV/Time Warner/whatever the heck cable system?

I hate this question. This is a dumb question. I've been asked variation of this question five million times since starting doing whatever the heck it is I'm doing. Planet Earth, stop asking me this dumb question.

Why do you have to be such jerk?

    It's the internet.

You are basically asking me to go to your house and hit the channel guide button for you. That seems an unfair expectation. On the other hand, I'm happy to give you a list of channels that have lucha libre, and you can see if you have any of them.

AS OF 02/2014, these US channels are known to cover Mexican wrestling

Azteca America - CMLL, "Lucha Azteca"
52MX - CMLL, "Guerreros del Ring"
AYM & LATV - IWRG, "Lucha Libre Zona XXI", "Lucha Libre" (same show)
Multimedios(2) - "Noches de Coliseo" - note listed time in guides is 100% incorrect

MexiCanal - Rayo de Plata promotions of San Luis Potosi, "La Lucha se le Hace"

Times & days check much more often than I'll bother to update this post. USE THE LUCHA TIMES LINK ABOVE, you'd probably have the answers to your questions already if you did that.

    Wait, what about Galavision?

There is no lucha libre left on Galavision. There is no lucha libre on Univision. There is no lucha libre on Telemundo.

Where else can I watch lucha libre?

    Plenty of YouTube channels

AAA post their full shows within days of them airing at http://www.youtube.com/user/luchalibreaaatv/

CMLL doesn't post any matches, and occasionally hilariously uses stuff I capture. They do have a partnership with http://terra.mx, which broadcasts live about half the Friday night card and all of the Sunday afternoon show.

  10. Galavision that's been brought up is that its gone for the summer and will be brought back in fall, which is probably BS since it was on at midnight and there was nothing on that would lead anyone to believe that it was pre-empted for something else. Similar thing happened in around 2003 and I think that was back when it came back and was months behind.

The show that's pre-empting CMLL, "MoJoe", is a show that airs midweek in Mexico and airs at least two times on Galavision before that late night airing. It's a music/interview program that seems to have been on for many years, not something that getting only a limited run.
