  1. I don't think WWE can get the fans boo Undertaker at this point. I think he's built up a nearly unheard of level of respect from the fans that would make turning him heel impossible.

I actually think this underestimates Undertaker. He's shown the ability to get heel heat in the past.

  2.

good main-event babyfaces are more valuable than main-event heels.

Only thing I'd disagree with is this comment, with caveats-slash-hedges that if you're talking about merch that's different, and also they're arguably more valuable to WWE because it's traditionally booked around the babyface rather than heel-centered.

Well I'm also talking about longevity. Almost any main-event babyface can be turned into a main-event heel, if necessary, and probably cycled back. Lesnar can be funny an' all, but he still really only has one gear (he can toss around big guys so well that he makes underdogs of 400lb wrestlers) and I don't think he's anything other than a heel really. But getting heel heat from a crowd needs a strong, sympathetic babyface or the crowd will just pop for Brock. He'd have been difficult to book for weekly TV over a 5 year period. Batista's power game was not on the same level as Brock's, but his style was more suited to the WWE product - that is perhaps an indictment of WWE but there it is.

  3. Brock has an aura that Batista does not, but Batista's first babyface run was far superior to Brock's and good main-event babyfaces are more valuable than main-event heels. If Brock hadn't left for football, where were they really going to go with him? Running with him on top of Smackdown instead of JBL would probably have drawn more money I grant you, and it's not like I wouldn't want to have more Eddy-Brock matches, but I think his limited character range would have exposed him over a longer career.

Not this awful picture again. Taker reminds me of that Bruce McCulloch KITH sketch, "He's hip, he's cool, he's 45."

To be honest, this is the Taker I'd actually like to see at Wrestlemania. Although people lol at the idea of Taker working any kind of extended program, I'd love to see cheaty, crafty old heel MMATaker make one more crack at the Undisputed Title with the old lady in tow.

  5.

I still haven't figured out if a grown man over the age of 25 should be wearing a "I'm a Hugger" shirt. In wrestling it is perfectly understandable but in public with no wrestling fans it could be really really awkward. Hell of a social experiment.

Yeah I ordered a shirt last week from site and it is a crap shoot when I will actually get it based on the site

No one said you have to wear it outside your house. Or not underneath a sweatshirt or hoodie. I've got plenty of shirts i only wear around the house.

I do have stuff that fits basically in the category of 'loungewear', but most of that stuff is gear that had been previously 'outside ready'.

I've been asked in the gym if that's Mokujin on my t-shirt; I have just stated 'Yeah' rather than explain it's actually Ken The Box.

  6. Well.....if Liverpool had actually played well at the start of the season then who knows where we'd be right now. I said at the time I thought Liverpool had been a bit unlucky in terms of injuries and playing the wrong teams at the wrong time, but we were definitely slow off the gates. Poor buggers just couldn't catch a break, plus without Suarez teams could park the bus. One doesn't want to rely on 25-30 yard screamers, but that's one way of getting shit done. Liverpool more or less ended the Title race today. Obviously it's all about that Top 4 spot and building for another real crack next season. Liverpool's run-in isn't a barrel of laughs but they're in there with us again now, rather than the other way around.

  7. I'm actually quite enjoying the thing with 'America Works'. It's an amusing policy initiative, which contrasts slightly with Urquhart's equivalent policy of compulsory national service for the young in its ultra-Keynesianism but nonetheless has a cold-bloodedness about it of which the original would approve of. Urquhart frequently gave his version of the 'you need a bad guy like me' speech, and he meant it; Underwood doesn't try to sell that to the audience but he's trying instead to offer that argument to the electorate. Urquhart wanted to leave his mark, but he really wanted to take the country in a certain direction. He also had fun. Underwood has no other motivation other than self-aggrandisement, and from what I've seen there's little evidence of him having much fun. The show is strong enough to hold my attention, but I think they're trying to make it as hard to empathise with the Underwoods as possible - I think they really don't want them to be anti-heroes.

  8. R-Truth goes through the motions, but I saw signs of him becoming a smart worker back in 2011. His stooging was really fun and he got a right hand punch over as a serious move. He got the water bottle shot similarly over. If he had actually got a decent run back then then we may well have seen better matches. But Vince thought 'Little Jimmy' would sell merch and they turned him from a psycho to a goof, but when they first turned him back face he was a proto-Ambrose lunatic fringe and the crowd was into it. Capitol Punishment with Truth main-eventing popped a pretty good buyrate, but he was probably too old to see a serious push. I think he's a bit of a missed opportunity, but he's a solid hand who can get the crowd going and WWE does need those. Point is, he was never really put in the position to have great matches but I think there's every reason to believe he could have made it work as JBL did if he had been given the push where he'd regularly be facing top guys..

  9.

Also, is the crowd booing the thought that Reigns is better than Austin? Or are they booing at Heyman's obviously transparent lie?

So many reaction GIF's I would love to post in response to this, but I'm not "that guy", so I'll just ask - are you serious?

I'll be kind and go with:

  10. Wait, has everyone come around to Reigns this quickly? And thinking the Rumble backlash was ridiculous? This is bizzaro world.

Not quite, some of us just stopped watching. My WWE Network subscription expired a few days ago.

  11.

I love NXT don't get me wrong, I'm just thinking of Vince and HHH redoing Daggett and Bane.

    - What the hell is going on, goddammit!

    - The plan is proceeding as expected

    - Oh really? Do I look like I've got my next set of main-eventers right now? Your plan for the Performance Center...it didn't work, my friend.....and now you have William Regal going round the country watching midgets in indy shows. How exactly is that going to help me find the next John Cena goddammit?

    (to Stephanie) - Leave us!

    - No stay here, I'm in charge goddamit!

    - Do you feel in charge?

    etc

The only NXT footage they actually send Vince is Mojo.

I guess that's why Vince's VHS recorder has been broken for the last 6 months and all those repairmen are having all having tragic accidents.

  13. Big Cass and Enzo are probably one of the acts most likely to succeed on the main show.

I was quite surprised by the negativity displayed by the DVDVR crew on that podcast, but I will admit that there are not a lot of obvious superstars in waiting. Not convinced about Corbin at all, hard to see Itami reaching IC-level, Neville is pretty good but he'll need a gimmick, Breeze has a gimmick but there's something to the poor man Ziggler jibe, Demon Balor will get over but regular Balor not so much I'm thinking, Owens can't play Vader on RAW, Zayn can probably reach IC level as good a storyteller he is but main-event might be a stretch, Kalisto will shift the merch right enough, Blake & Murphy are a bust, Bull isn't gonna make it.

COME BACK MOJO, ALL IS FORGIVEN!!!!!

  14. I'm not sure about Charli anymore....there's something about her schtick that rubs me wrong.

Doing It feels like an amalgamation of 4-5 different rip-offs.....can't put my finger on all of them, but one is the beginning of the chorus below....

  15. He gazed up at the enormous face. Twenty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the Lemmy wannabe moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved HHH.
