One thing Joe always has going for him is that he has long title reigns (ROH and ROH TV). In fact, nobody beat him for the TV title. So he's always a threat to have a long, juggernaut title reign.

That sure does sound like a threat to me as a viewer. 😑

  2. I feel like ROH had a pretty decent way of generating random title matches in the Joe-era by having him be on the losing side of tag-matches and then having to fight one of the Briscoes.

Jinder would have been perfectly fine as champion if he was good in the ring. Which of course he wasn't. But tbh I like the idea of midcarders having a banner year, & tbvh I am actually bored of knowing who is going to win practically every match in AEW outside of PPVs. Unpredictable things happen in sports, f**k Ruso for making it seem crazy to occasionally lean into that.

I actually like the idea of Hook beating Joe for the title, and giving the Firmly Undisputed Pinnacle of Kingdoms the runaround whilst Adam Cole heals up. I like Joe, but the title ain't no gold watch for service to the biz.

  3. Those arm measurements are crazy.

I did a 285lb Cybex Eagle Chest Press for 5. This was all I could actually load up on the machine as for some reason the final weight wasn't attached properly.

Tbh though, I seem to be a little tweaked in the left shoulder and bicep and a bit in the lower back too. Nothing too bad, but enough to take a step back and pause on anything too heavy. Which means I will drop the stiff-leggeds for a bit.

Another complication: it's January. Work gym is, and will be, packed Mo-Th for a while. Basically this will mean certain things are quite busy.

Fortunately there are some things that never seem to get busy - Hack Squat, Glute-Ham Raise (though I did see someone else do some for once), Plate-loaded chest-supported low row.

I need some time to get back into the hack squat, so I reverse-banded it and went to a challenging 5 (120 kg), then took off the band and went to 40kg for 3 x 10. Tbh I can go a bit harder but I knew it would give sufficient stimulus.

I actually played with the GHR variation I saw somebody else do which is not to do a full body bend but start from the body being flat. It was interesting - though puts more emphasis on the knee-bend function & I'd already done some prone leg curls (with an extra pad for more ROM like Israetal lol). But as I say, GHR is quiet so more ways to use it is good.

Oh and I actually did abs - not gonna lie 3 x 16 on leg raises almost cramped me which is embarrassing. Abs every session. Every session until Easter.

My fave cardio machine was taken so I actually had to go upstairs to the proper cardio section, and I found an elliptical I hadn't tried - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx6QKLcgp10&ab_channel=TheArenaClub It was great, I knew more than 5 minutes would cripple me. I actually did the arm cycle too as it feels good on my shoulders.

Upper body tomorrow will be interesting. I'm going to have to play with movements a bit, but I suspect I will actually close-grip bench and do single-arm rows for supersets, then JM presses - i.e. take a bench and hog it. Lat pulldowns are out, and I think lateral raises are too for a while. Tbh I will mostly avoid standing movements for a bit.

I am slowly trying to dial calories down, but this is very much a gradual thing and I don't really want to be on a big deficit with tweaks and when increasing cardio. Trying to control fat and increase quality of foods in the first instance.

  4. Oh my goal was to lose weight, I just somehow had it in mind that you had posted about training on here.

Yeah, treadmill should be fine - it might be voodoo, but basically for fat-burning I understand you want to try to keep to nasal breathing pace if you can.

If you're not doing weight training, then you don't need to worry so much about protein - which is good because ppl do mess up the diet that way. Just stick to 60ish g ideally

Fresh herbs are useful. Eggs have 1g of carbs but they are useful for the vitamin content. Organ meats are good too if you can handle them. 20-25g net carbs is not a lot of veggies.

And when you need to poop, well lol you need to get to it.

  5. Keto will (hopefully/probably) get easier, though I'm not convinced it plays well with long, heavy training sessions

    You need electrolytes.

After a few weeks, in my experience you can get away with a bit more (e.g. taking glucose tablets, I even used to take pre-workout with 11g carbs) but you need to keep it very tight at first.

Typically when I started, I was on black coffee for breakfast, then a lunch shake made of beef protein, green powder and double cream (there was maybe a tiny bit of stevia can't remember), then some kind of protein dinner (maybe steak & broccoli & blue cheese).

It did work, but I'm not convinced I want to do it again.

  6. This side of the pond, Bulk Pro Informed Whey Double Chocolate definitely is the yardstick for me in terms of taste and mixability. I'm actually getting two variants delivered (Millionaire Shortbread, Choc Peanut) this week.

The plain 'Milk Protein' from MyProtein is not bad either though, for something a bit slower release. 100% Casein is pretty ghastly in my experience.

    • i have never seen Mariah May, but Queen Aminata impressed me more in their match. make her a regular!

I hadn't seen Mariah May, but I saw that match and there's a lot I'm not seeing about Mariah May it seems. Stardom fans seem to think she's pretty good, so we'll see but she definitely should not use the fireman's carry driver for very long - Aminata looked like a bit of a goof jobbing to that. I think she used the Pedigree before right? She should just use that.

  8. It has never been clearly stated, but Meltzer rightly called out that Guevara pinning Starks was obviously to set up a new tag-title match between Le Sex Gods and Starks/Bill.

And tbh, I suspect the plan was to put the belts on them. Maybe even on Wednesday, as they don't really have much announced.

Which is why whilst I sympathise with JJ above (I was going to write something like my last post yesterday but decided not to), the mob has spoken, and it affects things so it is what it is.

Taking Jericho off TV right now until this situation gets resolved is the only choice to make right now.

Ok so I agreed with you on Sunday. 100%. And we were right. And now....I agree in spirit, but I gotta counsel:

Kevin Wilson's question does at least need to be looked at - until what resolution exactly?

Now we as a somewhat postmodern progressive culture are at least vaguely content to have ppl (well cis men really) thrown onto the bonfire of social & career death by the mob, based on an accusation by an alleged victim - this does offend some people's sense of natural justice (including that of many board members I suspect). But it's (rule) utilitarianism at work essentially - the *greater* good. Happens all the time, and it's forever.

Now a couple of people have argued/implied that the distinction is we don't actually have an explicitly consenting accuser. Maybe, but the problem here is that the mob isn't necessarily going to follow their nuanced version of what they think the rules are. (And really, why should they? Where there is at least the possibility that the alleged victim is bound by a NDA, anyone with a reasonable understanding of structural power & privilege could see why it would be *deeply problematic* to insist on a public accusation).

I was bantering with cancel culture with a Gen Z at work a few months ago, & basically he said 'your number comes up, you get cancelled, that's how it works'.

Or to put it another way - 'Deserve ain't got nothing to do with it, it's just his time that's all'. And this might just be what we have here.

If KR doesn't proactively take any further action (either by making a public statement assuming no pertinent NDA, or making a HR complaint, what fun), should AEW reach out to her because she did the heart tweet (it remains btw)? My view is probably, but I know that's going to be contentious. The other problem with that is you then potentially have a big investigation clouding TV rights negotiations.

But if you continue to handwave it all away, yeah it potentially messes up any booking Jericho is anywhere near, but maybe ppl tune in to see how the fans react, and maybe the mob moves on to something else? I mean I'm not that convinced, it feels like Jericho's time, but......this is a man with a lot of friends, he's not accused of anything criminal, there's indeed no solid accusation (as far as we know at least), & on that basis I can very definitely understand deciding not to lean into this. I said right at the start that something like this was the worst possible situation because all the options are terrible. Maybe the mob must be left to do what it will, & then potentially the media execs step in.

Leaning the other way & putting the belts on Le Sex Gods would certainly be a choice though.

well that match with Jericho was a dumpster fire as I expected and it shouldn’t have happened.

Imagine if Omega didn't get diverticulitis!

As is they've now got to decide if they're actually running 'Le Sex Gods' vs Starks/Billiam for what appear to be the second most important tag belts in AEW.

  11. My reason for believing he should be pulled is purely pragmatic, and the muted reaction to the 8 man in the Buy-In suggests to me the crowd knows something - but they're not going to clearly so it is what it is.

I agree she has not directly made the accusation, and that a NDA has limits. But if, very hypothetically, someone can't substantiate that criminal activity, civil tort sexual harassment or misconduct took place then they may not meet the bar for whistleblower protection. I imagine. It will be interesting to see what Hausman has asked Steve New about this.

Edit: FWIW The Speak Out Act does not apply to an NDA that is part of a settlement. This may or may not have relevance to the matter at hand. But it is possible that she can't make the accusation directly, & the heart tweet aligns with that.

Hopefully no one has me on Ignore haha people may not always agree with me but I like to think I'm fair with my takes and don't talk down to people.

Quite so. I actually have had Craig on ignore for quite a while, and whilst I do normally read his posts I have been reminded as to why.

The thing is Kylie Rae did heart that tweet and therefore she does seem to want to have something to do with it. I didn't really know who Hausman was, but apparently he just interviewed Steve New and they'll put that out there tomorrow.

  13. This is the worst situation in some ways. There's not really enough reason to pull him, but he's become the story, and having another member of the roster compared to Wenstein when you're about to unmask the devil.......well it's not quite 'who blew up Vince' but it's not exactly helpful either.

The thing is, he's in a nothing match even if it does have Sting in it. Pull him.

  14. They had 'The Faceless' become tag-team champions in Progress in black masks way back when - that segued into The Origin, who tbh were actually overlooked as top-tier heels because of the Jimmy Havoc run. GYV, Nathan Cruz and f'n Mastiff, Khan pays for 'Turn The Page'...and it would probably actually work better than whatever they actually have planned!

  15. Ncuti is great - tbh I only just realised a few days ago that Eric from Sex Education is the Doctor and now my gf actually wants to watch Doctor Who.

The f'n comicbook/scifi culture war YouTube grifters are the worst...well actually they're probably the least worst of all the culture war YouTube grifters, but ther weak shit should be paid absolutely no mind nonetheless.

  16. Thanks! Though if I put my info into Symmetrical Strength, then it shows my OHP as being behind my other lifts which is interesting.

So I don't think it will be a problem for you. There is a little more technique than with the Big 3, and you have to work out how much you want to lean back and a couple of other things.

My humble opinion - I think long-term 90kg is there for me, especially if I put a belt on. More than that I think would take a lot more advanced programming, but I increasingly think I prefer doing heavy work on the OHP to the bench. Like for bench, I think I almost care more about what I can rep out than my max.....and in some ways this is safer because frankly a lot of benches I encounter just aren't that suited to really heavy work. I'm not ruling out that 140kg bench, but I think I'm going to stick with close-grip to assist my ohp for a while and assess down the line.

While I don't love the triple threat booking of the Gold League with Tony being too protective of those 3 guys, the Blue League story of Kingston coming back from a bad start to win, going over Danielson and hopefully earning his respect to payoff the 'Eddie is a bum' moment, is potentially awesome. Kingston in the finals in New York will be fire, but who do you put him against? White would be good as a clean heel vs face match, but I can see them going with Swerve then having Hanger cost him the match (as alluded to in Page's promo where he said he's cost Swerve something he really cared about).

They could go that way, but I think Mox will go over White so that Swerve never really eats a pinfall in the tournament. Swerve's real focus is the AEW World Title, so I suspect Hanger is either going to cost him a shot at the title or the title itself. Though it looks like they are building finally to Swerve vs Lee, and Swerve losing to Lee would eat at him massively so they could do that too.

  18. I *think* I got a PR on the OHP today - 75kg. I think 72.5 was my previous, which was a long time ago and I would have been wearing a belt (plus I probably took 7-8 minutes to prepare). This was after an all-body session yesterday. I was tentatively planning to try to do 3 x 8 at 50kg as per my progression but I realised that trying to do rep work wasn't really going to work with soreness in my hamstrings, upper back and indeed some fatigue in my anterior delts from heavy chest pressing yesterday where I actually failed a bunch of reps. So yeah, probably have 80kg in me but I'll continue to milk the progression I've been working on

I also did my somewhat bent over wide-grip ez-bar drag curls today. I actually went up to 50kg + the bar. But then it hit me - am I doing an upright row? And I suppose the answer is 'sort of', but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing for the low/mid traps and rear delts to get some work. I think if you were to add some proper hip drive you could get some serious weight going.

In the interests of science, I also decided to try a narrow grip preacher curl.....lol I don't get it. Not for me! I think I'd probably rather use an arm blaster over the preacher bench, but the narrow grip feels really odd to me.
