  1. Finished my Royal Rumble retrospective, and these would be my top 5 Rumble matches of all time,

    1. Royal Rumble ’03 (01-19-2003) Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle
    2. Royal Rumble ’00 (01-23-2000) Cactus Jack vs. Triple H
    3. Royal Rumble ’92 (01-19-1992) Royal Rumble Match
    4. Royal Rumble ’07 (01-28-2007) Umaga vs. John Cena
    5. Royal Rumble ’90 (01-21-1990) Royal Rumble Match

The actual Rumble match itself has always been one of my favorite gimmick matches. It's really not meant to be watched so closely together though, I'll have to keep that in mind in the future. There were a lot of guys who impressed through the years, but by far the worst has to be Great Khali. It's not even that he's that horrible as he's never in the ring long enough to show how awful or decent he may be (although I get the suspicion he's pretty awful). He's been in something like 7 Rumble's and I think he's been in the ring for maybe 5 minutes total. They never play him as a joke either, which makes his treatment all the more odd.

  2. Murdoch's big torso/small legs thing definitely got worse as he got older.  He was looking distinctly Humpty Dumptyish in this match.

This is something I noticed with Chris Masters in the couple of Rumble's I watched him in the past few days. He's obviously not overweight, but his muscular torso is completely out of proportion with his skinny legs and it gets worse every Rumble.

  3. Rumble '08

Edge versus Rey is okay, but I'm really glad I missed all the Vickie Guerrero stuff because it seems just awful. However, at one point they list all the titles Edge has held, and it's something like 2 time world champion, 5 time intercontinental champion, and 16 time tag team champion. It got me to thinking, as I've been out of things for a bit, but have they reigned in the title changes at all? It seems to me that longer title reigns would be better for the value of the titles, but maybe that doesn't fly in a world where the majority of people seem to have short attention spans.

  4. Rumble '98

Max Mini, Nova, and Mosaic versus Batallion, El Torito, and Tarantula is a pretty nifty mini's match. Remove the Sunny stuff, as well as the Lawler commentary, and what's left is a fast paced match that's easy to get into. For some reason I looked up Scott Keith's review of this event after the fact and his comment that he doesn't rate Midget matches because no one cares really makes me wonder why I ever thought his opinion mattered.

    Rumble '99

Rock versus Mankind in an I Quit match is the bad kind of brutal. It starts off okay, but by the time it gets to Rock appearing to be a dick and refusing to hit Mick in the back with the chair and instead stalling and making Mick turn around to get hit in the head repeatedly there's really no point to what's going on.

The actual Rumble match is probably the worst I've seen so far. I really didn't like the Attitude era as far as the actual wrestling is concerned, so it's not surprising it produced such an awful Rumble full of outside stuff and stupid gimmicks.

  5. Also I've turned watching these Rumble matches into a "Count how many past/present/future world champions are in the ring at any one time" game. So far the high mark is '97 where at one point Vader, Austin, Bret Hart, Undertaker, Rocky Maivia, Terry Funk, Diesel #2, and Mankind were all in the ring at the same time.

  6. Had to register here just to give props to Piranesi for his review alone of Andre-Kamala. I'd give you a medal for that if I could.

    Rumble '95

Diesel/Bret Hart - I remember a lot of people saying this was a great match, but it's really not. It's pretty good, but the repeated interference and Diesel's inability to really sell the leg hurt the match a lot.

It's been years since I've seen it but I remember it having some good psychology but being pretty dull. Don't know if I'd think differently now.

Bret tries to work psychology into the match, and he somewhat succeeds. It's annoying to see him work over Diesel's leg for ten minutes then have Diesel hobble around for thirty seconds before doing power moves and even breaking out a back stretcher on his injured leg, before then remembering his leg has been worked over and hobbling some more.

    Rumble '96 Match

The moment when Michaels eliminates Vader/Yoko at the same time is probably the stupidest Rumble moment so far. Alos, way to screw up Vader right off the bat WWF.

    Rumble '97 Match

Such an odd Rumble. The messed up time intervals don't help matters, but it's kind of fun watching the WWF transition into a completely different period in their history with troves of wrestlers that would barely last in the Fed.

  7. Rumble '95

Diesel/Bret Hart - I remember a lot of people saying this was a great match, but it's really not. It's pretty good, but the repeated interference and Diesel's inability to really sell the leg hurt the match a lot.

Rumble match - 1 minute intervals is a terrible idea, removes all the tension from the match and made for a horrendous Rumble.

  8. If you don't even in your internal voice yell at Gene Kniski at least once, you're not watching that match closely enough.

I'm only a few minutes in, but I imagine this has something to do with him being out of position, slow counting, and/or being in the way of some movies?

  9. Saw this: http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-stories/96-wwe/35714-wwe-network-first-run

They're working their butt off to get those ECW Hardcore TV's up.

It's kind of amazing to think that there will be one place that has all the episodes of stuff like Superstars, Saturday Night, Shotgun Saturday Night, Hardcore TV, Nitro, Raw, Smackdown, Thunder, etc. Never thought this day would come, it's probably why I'm getting back into wrestling again.

  10.

Since I've been out of the loop for many years, just what does the WWE library consist of these days? I know they own the libraries of WCW and ECW. I think I recall them purchasing the AWA, WCCW, and Mid-South libraries as well. I'd also wager they could pop stuff like OVW, possibly USWA, on the network. However, in the long run I wonder if in order to keep up with demand WWE will have to seek out and purchase other libraries. I know they have a ton of content already, but wrestling fans seem to devour content super fast.

You are talking REAL long run here.

Most definitely, but it's a cool prospect to think of. Not complaining of the programming they have now, I think the Network is great, but I think it will be even better once they start adding all the content they still haven't uploaded (and buying other libraries).
