  1. 8 hours ago, J.T. said:

James Gunn:  I'd really like to use Kang and Annihilus.  Too bad Fox owns the rights.

IIRC the FF license also includes Galactus and the Skrulls.

Perfectly fine cosmic villainy for GoTG movies that will be languish due to legal issues.

I think I've read that the Skrulls in general is a situation like Quicksilver where both Fox and Marvel can use them. The Super Skrull character, however, belongs to Fox.

  2. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just thought it was interesting.

Since Walton Goggins is in his stable of actors now, and since he was so successful with adapting Elmore Leonard for Jackie Brown, I kind of wish Tarantino had directed an episode of Justified. He directed an episode of CSI, so why not? QT directing a scene between Olyphant and Goggins could have been awesome.

  3. I saw an interview with Tarantino where the interviewer asked him what he would say if someone told him that Jackie Brown was their favorite Tarantino movie. QT said that if he was being snotty he would say that person isn't a Tarantino fan, because it's the least Tarantino-like movie in his filmography.

  4. Okay, worst scene in the movie?

I'm going with the action on Han's freighter.

    1. The Rathtars look like something out of the prequels.

    2. They brought in the guys from THE RAID and then didn't let them actually do any fighting! WTF????

    3. Rey using SECURITY CAMERAS to resolve the situation kinda hangs a lampshade on the fact that Han's junky freighter has them but the damn Starkiller Base apparently doesn't.

I was just about to mention this.

I loved the movie. I'm ignoring some things I would normally nitpick because of nostalgia and excitement, but overall it was awesome. I have to say, though, I was super disappointed when the actors from The Raid showed up, I immediately thought we were about to get one of the coolest fight scenes in a Star Wars movie ever, and then... nothing.

But, yeah, overall it was great. I can't wait to see what Rian Johnson does since I'm a big fan of his movies (especially Brick).

  5. I'm definitely more excited about Batman vs. Superman than I was a week ago, but I'm not sure where I stand on Suicide Squad. I think it looks good. I'm sure I'll see it in theaters and enjoy it. But the more I see of it, the more I am convinced it will be exactly like the Assault on Arkham animated movie -- and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we already seen the Damphair in season one? If they are using the same actor they wouldn't need a casting call for him.

I read someone musing that Victarion and Crow's Eye will basically be combined in to one character, which would in turn streamline the Kingsmoot a little. Also, the show clearly doesn't have time to go in to why they hate each other and their relationship.

Put me in the "Jingus' opinion is wrong" camp. I think the stuff on the Iron Islands in Feast is way, WAY more dramatically interesting than anything that happens in Dorne or anything that happens with Dany. I would say that it's the one thing the show actively ruins in the books; without TV moving ahead and cutting some stuff, the Ironborne seem like a true threat with bad ass fighters, magical items, and a complete fucking mad man at the helm. They are basically a biker gang riding toward a completely unsuspecting protagonist. In a series full of great dramatic irony, the Ironborn stand out as some of GRRM's finest work. The show seemingly caring so little for them basically spoils the showdown and makes them JTTS material.

Also, we don't know that their God sucks real bad quite yet. At various points, all the Gods have had a bit of ambiguity to the reach of their powers. Maybe the Greyjoys end up bringing forth Cthulu, which is what causes the whole Ice and Fire tag team that will finally unite the realm. I mean, I know I'm reaching here, but how fucking awesome would Dragons and Zombies vs. Cthulu be? Totally fucking awesome is the answer to that question.

Apparently the guy we saw in season one was just a random Drowned Priest. It wasn't actually Aeron Greyjoy, so we still haven't see him yet.

  7. I think the fact that Melisandre came across Thoros in the show and learned about how he resurrected Beric Dondarrion coupled with the fact that she just showed up at The Wall right before Jon Snow's stabbing makes it very possible that she will bring him back to life. Thoros said he never really, truly believed in the Red God and that he was at his lowest point. But he said the old words over the corpse of Dondarrion and he came back to life. You have to think Melisandre is in a similar place with how everything with Stannis went and how she apparently misread all of her visions and is responsible for the death of Shireen. But she can still say the words over Jon Snow's body, and when he comes back to life her faith can be renewed and she will have possibly saved the real Azor Ahai.

  8. Loved tonight's episode. Thought they went in some interesting directions for nearly everyone and am curious to see where it all leads by the end of the season.

I figure Mack and Bobbi are working for Fury.

Simmons direction makes me wish they could use mutants and the affiliated hate groups.

I've seen people speculating online that Mack and Bobbi are secretly working for S.W.O.R.D. I noticed during Mack's rant how he specifically mentioned how he was fed up with all this "alien crap", so that could definitely be it.

  9. My thinking is that -- given his history -- Bogut probably won't be healthy for all of the playoffs. If he's hurt and misses a series, then the Warriors become very vulnerable. People don't talk enough about how important Bogut is to the way they want to play, and not just defensively. He allows them to play inside-out on offense and he's also a great passer. I just don't trust him to stay healthy, so I don't know if I can go all in on their chances to win it all even if they are my favorite team to watch this season.

  10. I recently watched The Equalizer with Denzel, and I enjoyed it more than I thought it would. It got me to thinking, though. What are the best movies that have a badass unstoppable hero? We're seeing action movies like The Equalizer and the Taken movies lately, but what are some other examples? What movies have a hero who just runs through the opposition -- even when they get to the end of the movie they still just completely destroy whoever the big bad is?

I also don't care about genre. It can be an old school action movie, revenge flick, superhero movie, western, etc. Just looking to get everyone's opinions on what some of the best examples of this are.

  11. You can't discredit Harden because he gets a lot of points from free throws. Drawing fouls is a skill -- one that he happens to be the best in the league at doing. He's been getting to the line like that consistently for a while now and he knocks them down. But really just look at the fact that Houston is 4th in the ridiculously loaded West right now, and a lot of that has been with Howard out. That's why I said Harden is having an MVP-type season. He has carried them and is having a really great statistical season, but they're also winning a lot. I really don't think best SG in the league is even debatable right now. Second best is where it gets interesting with Monta, Butler, Thompson, Wade (when healthy), etc.

  12.

I love how Memphis took the mantle of best team in the league the past two nights. Grit'n'Grind.

I had them pegged as the team to end the Warriors streak, but I was much more impressed by the win over a rested Spurs team.  To play into triple OT, without your best defender, after playing that physical of a game against GS the night before.   Wow.

I agree that it was a really impressive and gutsy performance by Memphis. However, it should probably be noted that the Spurs didn't have Parker or Leonard for the game. So the Spurs were rested, but they were still short-handed.

  13.

    Fuck.

Lesser of two evils.  I was dreading the Joachim Phoenix version of Dr. Strange.   Great actor but has taken the turn on Batshit Insane Boulevard lately.

I may be alone, but I was actually more interested in seeing Phoenix get the role. I like Cumberbatch. I love Sherlock. But he's in every movie in every genre, and we can kind of tell what he'll be like as Strange. Phoenix as a superhero with the potential to interact with the guys in the Avengers? That was more interesting to me.

  14. I think if anything this is a coaching/system issue. Or rather Riley or Spo should've had a talk with Wade at some point to make it clear he needed to be the third option on offense and that they were going to be highlighting Bosh more. I mean, we all know LeBron is an unselfish player who is more than willing to pass. This just shows that even though they made four Finals in a row and won two titles, they could've been even better if they had tweaked the system to make Bosh a more prominent player alongside LeBron. And as for making room for LeBron to work in the post and forcing Bosh outside, in the times that Cleveland's offense has looked good this season, they do make an effort to get Love touches in the post early.

Would the Heat have been better with Wade coming off the bench a la Manu in San Antonio? Have another shooter in the starting lineup and then have Wade run the second unit.

  15. Are we really supposed to buy that Laurel is going to eventually replace her sister -- who fought for her life and was trained as an assassin for years -- as Black Canary when her training consists of boxercising in her free time after her day job as a lawyer? But, hey, at least we know she's super angry and driven.

  16. Pelicans have a nice roster but I don't see how it all fits together. Love Davis and Asik in the front. I don't know what to think about Gordon, Holiday and Evans all in the same backcourt.

So... Davis and Asik apparently combined for 40 points, 34 rebounds, and 14 blocks tonight. Yeah. That's a pretty good start. I agree with you, though, that the backcourt is going to be the biggest question mark.

  17. From Marvel.com:

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers," said Feige. "This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

    And also, concerning Strange:

"It takes a while to work on these movies before they're ready to come to you in theaters," said Feige. "Doctor Stephen Strange, brilliant neurosurgeon, bit of an arrogant fellow who gets in a car accident and ruins what he thinks are the tools of his trade: his hands.

"In the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the supernatural, that involves everything from quantum mechanics to string theory. The idea of this film is to open up a whole new corner of the cinematic universe. We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions."

I wonder how the introduction of parallel dimensions could factor into the other upcoming movies.
