I have Auburn losing to USC. Auburn's a 2 seed that narrowly avoided losses to some bad SEC teams

shockingly, an Auburn team that had to grit out a road win over Mizzou was not long for the actual tournament

Looking at KenPom, here's the remaining teams ranked by Adjusted Tempo (out of 358 schools total)

Gonzaga 5, Arizona 6, Arkansas 28, UNC 31, Kansas 63, Miami 153, Duke 169, Michigan 202, Texas Tech 215, Iowa State 236, Saint Peter's 240, Purdue 246, TCU 248, UCLA 271, Providence 284, Houston 333, Texas 338, and Villanova 345

So one possible title game is Gonzaga (72.4 possessions per 40 minutes) vs Villanova (62.6 possessions per 40 minutes).

7 teams are above 67 possessions per 40 minutes and the other 11 are below 67 per 40. Depending on the outcomes of TCU/Arizona and Purdue/Texas, it'll either be 6 vs 10 or 7 vs 9 for that split in the Sweet 16.

It's been a good tournament for slow tempo basketball.

With Arizona making it past TCU, despite trying to do a buzzer-beater dunk, The sweet 16 will have 5 teams in the top 63 (and 5 in the top 100 and 5 in the top 150) in adjusted tempo and 5 teams in the bottom 100 (and 8 in the bottom 150) for tempo.

There'll be a rockfight of teams daring refs to call fouls.

Belmont almost pulled off the monster upset on Tennessee's floor last night and I was getting serious Mizz Georgia Hase vibes from their original (1968!) coach.

I’m assuming that the NCAA thinks Duke has better chance at beating Arkansas on Saturday, the Zags are getting hosed big time.

Yeah, the officiating was pretty terrible - the missed out-of-bounds that was seen and not called and became a 3 and the trip on Nembhard being particularly egregious - but Gonzaga played poorly.  You can't have your guards go 5-22 with 4 assists and hope to win.   Hard to say how much of it was the Arkansas defense - Gonzaga missed a TOOOOOOOON of open shots.

we're two results away from a long awaited NCAA tournament clash....

North Carolina

vs

...

Arkansas!

(UNC played Arkansas in the tournament in 1990, 1993, 1995, 2008, 2015, and 2017)

The last 3 Arkansas/UNC games were all in the 2nd round (one 1/8, one 5/4, and one 1/9)

Gotta love how ho-hum it feels that a ten and an eight are in the Elite Eight. And even it being the first elite eight in Miami history. There's just no oxygen for those stories next to St. Peter's (and some old dude retiring.)

Actually, can you imagine how little attention a potential Kansas/Villanova game would get if the other side is Duke/St. Peter's?

And could you imagine if K's final game was a loss to St Peter's?
