Double or Nothing III - 5/30/2021

I think another thing that would play to the side that everyone doesn't need a title run is that people aren't paid to be the champions like they used to. Back in the 70's, 80's, shit even into the 90's those guys paydays were coming from the houses. It seems that contracts are a lot better off now, so everyone can make a pretty healthy living and not need to be Ric Flair wrestling 56 times in 2 months. What I'm getting at is that it's okay to be an Orange Cassidy or a Lance Archer now a days because you're gonna have that value no matter what.

There are positions and spots where maybe a short title reign would be acceptable, but with Kenny Omega's current storyline, I don't think that benefits everyone. He is the heel Hulk Hogan, the Undertakers streak if you will. If you build him and build him, the person (Hangman please) who beats him for the title should be shot straight into the stratosphere, but that only works if Omega holds the belt long enough. A sports analogy would be the Patriots. Everyone hated them not because they won one or two Super Bowls, but because they won 6 and went to like 9 or 10 in 20 years. That's why I say let Omega hold that bastard til next September. Just let it keep building and keep building.

However, let me play devils advocate here. Should Kenny lose the AEW title first or last in his holding of the gold? I can see Andrade beating him for the AAA Mega title, but does that mean Andrade is gonna get the full rub because he's the first guy to beat Kenny? And then if Moose beats him for the Impact title its like "meh well we already saw him lose" and then same thing except worse for the AEW Title. That's the only problem with holding all this gold. You gotta lose it at some point too.

From a purely AEW standpoint, Kenny losing his other belts doesn't have to be fully acknowledged. Just wait for someone to cut the "Where's your belts gone? Didn't you have like a bunch of them last month?" promo

I’ve been noodling the multiple belt thing and it’s really a bit of a double edged sword. On one side, you want your person who knocks off Kenny to do so when Omega is at his highest point. If you have him lose those other belts first, clearly someone has already solved the Omega equation before someone in AEW did. On the other hand, I think it lowers the impact of the loss for Kenny if he can retreat to his other titles rather than face the sense of loss that should come with a title defeat. I think best case scenario is that Kenny loses all of his belts in rapid succession in the course of a few weeks one after the other. I would personally start with the AEW title if I had complete control of the situation but I obviously don’t know if the promotions have that level of cooperation.

On the tag belts I'd be 100% behind eventually putting them on Santana/Ortiz for a couple reasons. One, in the long run I think any faction can only stay cool without any belts for so long so at some point Inner Circle should have, you know, something. Also two, for my money since I started watching AEW Santana and Ortiz have been as consistent as any act in the entire company. They can do almost any kind of match you want to do. They can promo. They can work face or heel. They really should touch the belts at least once at some point.

I'd imagine the Elite are going to fuck with Dark Order at some point to goad Hangman into taking on Kenny, so my money's on Silver and Reynolds beating the Bucks, though Uno & Grayson, Best Friends, and Santana & Ortiz are all excellent choices.

And as long as I'm fantasy booking, Jungle Boy should beat Miro.

Nothing I would terribly disagree with there, and basically reflects how much I enjoyed each match (and in the case of the battle royal, both the right person won and it was a good finish, which is just about all that matters in the match).
