@Technico Support's probably loathed Cody Rhodes for the longest time here will be thrilled by people joining him on that vessel and I understand why. Let a groan out when Rhodes won with the Vertebreaker of all things and not his main finish. Rhodes taking the gut punches as well.

Still feel Mox/Kingston should have beat the Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. My Match of the Night. What was yours?

I also felt the PPV could have done with time shaving off, like 30 minutes or so. Some matches went on a tad too long.

Having that, I really enjoyed this show and thought it was one of AEW's best PPVs. I'd still rate Full Gear 2020 as the best of the lot with #FTR/Young Bucks ***** dream match, Jon Moxley/Eddie Kingston and Kenny Omega/Adam Page.

Still think that Revolution 2020 is AEW's best ever show, and I'd have last night's Double or Nothing in the the discussion with the previous two Double or Nothings and Full Gear 2020 for number two overall show (and in the heat of the moment, would rate last night's as second best). Having a full, hot crowd adds the extra element to make events truly memorable.

Also, last night cemented that Cody needs to turn ASAP. I think there's a bit of a difference between the live crowd and the online fanbase, but Cody's match stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the night for the lack of heat (and while Cody got a nice reaction on Friday Dynamite, it was crickets last night). I am still of fan of his on the whole, but a heel turn is overdue at this point.

Also, God help me, I felt good for Jake Hager. Dude was clearly having a ball all the way through that match and seemed to really enjoy the post-match celebration. I always thought he got shit on a little unfairly in WWE and I'm glad he's having more fun in AEW. He should be the guy WWE talent looks at and says "damn, maybe the grass IS greener..."

I really enjoyed the show.  Riho-Deeb was better than Shida-Baker.    I wouldn't mind seeing Baker-Riho next just to see what Britt can do with someone like Riho.  Too many mistakes in the women's title match but it wasn't bad. Head's and shoulders above anything WWE is doing in the ladies division.

Bucks winning was meh. The ending was original though so I'l give them that much. Up until the ending I'l say it was one of the best tag matches i've seen in years. If Mox and Kingston would have won I would have loved it more.

Jungle Boy winning the battle royal was great. Lio Rush as the Joker was not.   AEW has too many guys similar to Lio that aren't even booked.  Janella himself wasn't even put in the Battle Royal.  Shows how much they think of Joey. Nothing for Chuck and Trent? Nothing for Luchasauraus or Marko?

Cody is one of the most boring guys in AEW. I want to get behind him but I just can't. Had a feeling when he came out with the Red, White, and Blue, and remixed theme he would be going over. Sadly I was right.

Hangman Page is over. Not sure who I'd rather see unseat Kenny at this time. Page, Cage, Jungle Boy, or Orange.  (watch it be Christian)

Riho coming out to the live crowd first was the perfect move. That match set the stage for a great night. Both ladies looked good in the ring. The work was crisp and the crowd enjoyed every second of it.

Miro and Archer wasn't bad. Could have been better. I wouldn't mind Kingston-Miro for the Tv belt. Give Kingston a win and let him be the face of TNT.  Let Mox have some time of with wife and daughter.

The 3 way title match was fun. Never for a second did I think Kenny was going to lose though. I think that took a lot away from the match for me.  Fun match, but the flash ending seemed rushed.

Stadium stampede was amazing. I loved the match and think Wardlow and Sammy both came out of it looking like gold. Interesting to see where the feud goes from here. How do you top Blood and Guts and Stadium Stampede?

Jim Ross needs to go.  I love JR. He is the voice of my WCW childhood but my god my dad who hates wrestling would have sounded more invested in the product. He sounds grumpy, disinterested, and it's not good for the product. New fans hearing him would have to be scratching their heads and asking "why is this guy even on here"

Solid show all around. All heel champs is a bold move. Looking forward to seeing where they go from here on Friday night.

I think you've covered the contenders there. I'd still go with Full Gear 2020 followed by a combination of the three Double or Nothing events and Revolution 2020. To me, Double or Nothing is AEW's WrestleMania and All Out the Royal Rumble/SummerSlam depending on which you hold as the second biggest WWE show. For me it will always be the Rumble.

For the next AEW World Champion: Adam Hangman Page, Darby Allin or Jungle Boy. I'd still go with Hangman then Darby.

For the next TNT Champion: John Silver, Jungle Boy, Orange Cassidy or Eddie Kingston. Can't decide between Silver and Jungle Boy. Silver, you have him bring the title back to the Dark Order but there may be some taking offense bringing up the late, great Mr. Brodie Lee. I'd hate for a heel to use his passing for cheap heat like when Eddie Guerrero died. I don't expect that from AEW, least I hope.

For the next AEW World Tag Team Champions: #FTR, a Dark Order combination like Silver/Reynolds or Grayson/Uno, Moxley/Kingston or Santana/Ortiz. I'd go with #FTR. Need a proper run with the gold.

For the next AEW Women's World Champion: Tay Conti.

Thoughts?

More thoughts on an overall enjoyable mixed-bag show:

  • Giving Page a strong win is always a good way to open a show, so this was a good copy+paste from the format of many episodes of Dynamite. I wish they'd have leaned more into the move stealing stuff in a match with Mr Get My Shit In, but whatever.
  • Really enjoyed the tag match and I enjoyed the finish immensely. Happy to see the first full crowd was so fully into Eddie. Happy Mox didn't kick out of that devastation at the end. But this was the beginning of a terrible night for refs. The bell was rung to start the match when it was and not earlier because... why? Why even have referees in this company, since rules aren't a thing?
  • The battle royal was poorly laid out and the Casino format is a bust. Nobody is promised anything, but the Joker spot lends itself to expectations which this company seems perpetually incapable of meeting. I like Lio's work, but this did him a disservice. Bringing out five guys at a time is silly and stomps on everyone's moment, and throwing up entrance music doesn't really solve the problem. Same "too many guys laying on the floor" problem most battle royals have these days. Jungle Boy's entrance was awful. He walks in to a big pop, people are here for him, dramatic stare down with Penta... and he just gets gobbled up? Who lays out this garbage?
  • Battle royal finish was excellent. Christian is a total pro. The ring post swing hasn't been exposed on Dynamite, because Jungle Boy is rarely ever featured on Dynamite, so people bit big on it here. Right guy went over. Nice of them to finally commit and have a guy they've been insisting is a future star for almost two years finally win something. Highlight of the night.
  • Cody's an outlandish person. I'm happy that at least one of the EVPs is committed to being a dipshit in the most interesting possible manner.
  • Britt winning was the right move, but the match to get us there had many sloppy moments and a poorly laid out finish. The referees are pointless, just do fights without them.
  • Came in with zero expectations for Sting, so his match was a pleasant surprise. Wish the show ended there. Darby's a maniac and he also knows that finger stuff hurts, he really does it all.
  • Long matches with the finish never in doubt are rough. When I don't care about 2/3rds of the guys, and nobody else cares about the guy I care about? Ooof. This show was starting to get long here.
  • Our celebration of big American wrestling with live audiences ending with a largely cinematic match was such a poor choice. I'm over these and I'm over Jericho. Happy they made the choice to finish by highlighting Sammy.
  • Final impression: Show peaked with the first three matches. Babyfaces I'd rather see in the title picture than Hangman: Jungle Boy, Darby, Sammy, Kingston, Christian Cage. Well done on that front, everyone involved. Just be thankful for Hangman's sake they're going to have extremely enthusiastic and giving audiences once they get back on the road, which should paper over any missteps they've taken.

Man there's easily a year's worth of title matches out there for Baker. Statlander, Conti, Deeb, Rosa, Riho are all credible challengers and Velvet and Anna Jay when she's back would be fun TV defenses. This could be a hell of a run she's about to go on. Hell even Britt stooging around for Abadon for a month would be fun as hell.

Lost in the good will, but the refs were fucking awful and missed cues and stared right at shit.  Someone needs to take a leadership roll and tighten some shit up or its gonna start eating up the goodwill they get in other areas.

I would like to see the BFs and Santana / Ortiz get at least one title run per team.   All of belts being wrapped up in storylines and factions being locked in death feuds really takes away from being able to book things as if there were actual contenders.

Somewhere down the line, the Varsity Blondes need to be tag champs if they can manage to stay together.

My not so bold prediction is that were probably going to be building to babyface Britt vs. Cargill at some point, but agree with you entirely, that's gonna be a super fun group of challengers

That was the glaring problem with the tag title match. The Bucks double teaming Mox while the ref is sorta doing the five count and not enforcing it, with Kingston just standing on the apron? Yuck. The kids watching with us were confused about the rules .

Hell of a show, start to finish. Even the worst match (Rhodes vs Ogogo) was still pretty good, just overlong and meandering. Although the other long matches felt well paced and the right length.

So Homicide used to call his Vertebreaker the Cop Killa. I hereby dub Cody's version the Cop Caller. That match really killed the crowd, and it took Miro doing a lot of firing up to get them back.

If there really is tension between the EVPs, Omega doing a Dusty finish in the World title match was a way better Dusty tribute than anything Dusty's own son did on the show. It does kind of feel like Kenny's doing a very Meta parody of an Ace character, while Cody is doing a skewed, non-self aware Ace character that isn't supposed to be a parody.

He already named it Din's Fire.

Like everyone else, I loved this show.

So happy they kept the titles on the Bucks.  They're on absolute fire right now.  The Moxley-Kingston entrance was a show highlight.  I wasn't somebody who considered themselves an Eddie Kingston fan prior to this AEW run, but certainly am now.  Who doesn't love seeing a workhorse get their due.  Also, Brandon Cutler's young boy gimmick is so great.  Curious to see where things go for Kazarian, he's been really consistent and fun to watch.  And that's how you attack somebody and fight them to the back.  He was full of fire beating on the Machine Gun.  Such a great brutal bout and great brutal finish.

Omega-Pac-OC made the triple threat rules work.  Not a fan of non-elimination three ways, but this worked due to the incredible talent in ring.  Such fun false finishes.  I love all three of these guys and look forward to whatever is next.  Also, Don Callis is such a breathe of fresh air on commentary.  I loved him putting JR on the spot with his claims of Kenny's godliness eg. '6 of the greatest matches JR and I have ever called are Kenny Omega matches!'  Shame they didn't have Don do his ring entrance announcement gimmick.  Loved that 'Fuck You Don' chant too.

Stinger was a force in there.  And Darby and the heels brought the goods.  I feel somewhat alone in this sentiment, but I love this Ethan Page-Scorpio tandem.  E-Page is such a fun heel.  That suicide toss on Darby was insanity.  Loved the finish here.

Hangman-Cage was as great as assumed.  Loved the clumsy buckshot from Cage.

Cody-Ogogo was odd.  I'm not a Cody hater, but having Ogogo kill ppl with his punch and then having Cody sell it like it's just another strike was an awful choice.  I would have liked to have seen the match end on that great punch from the figure four spot.  I have no issue with Cody going over a greenhorne - Ogogo isn't quite ready to be pushed.  Somebody needs to clue in young Stardust.  He was hitting on all fronts not that long ago, but it seems like the overt online hate is moving into the regular crowd as this one was dead from the beginning and kinda derailed the momentum of the show.

I had very low expectations for the Casino, but this one exceeded.  Granted I barely watched until the last portion.  The individual entrances helped.  If this was any indication, Christian and Jungle Boy are gonna have an incredible singles match somewhere down the road.

Stampede was mostly fun.  That said, I cannot get into anything Jericho is doing right now.  It's certainly not that it's so bad, I'm just not into it.  Not into MJF either.  He's become awfully boring to me.  But Spears and Sammy were great.  Hager and Wardlow was fun.  And dug the FTR-Latin Americans exchange.  I think Tully/FTR's Bunkhouse 87 look was my favorite thing about this.  Save for the great Sammy win to finish it.  Happy ending was nice, but I think this match would have been better served to break up the show mid-way.

Riho and Deeb was awesome.  Shida and Baker less so until that great finish.  Shida's good, but she can be sloppy and weak with her offense and certainly was here.  Great moment with Schiavone following.  This Dr. Baker story from how reviled she was in the beginning to how over she is now is a really good reminder to have a little patience when viewing.  They were absolutely right about her abilities and she's more than proven it.

I loved this show, but like everybody in attendance, and it seems watching at home, I was burned out half way thru.  And this happens every PPV.  Please AEW, make these shows:

1. 3 hours.  Ogogo-Rhodes and the Casino, for example, weren't necessary here.

2. Give me some promos in between.  Match-match-match-match is too much.  I don't think I'm alone in suggesting that wrestling fans like promos as much as wrestling.

I overall enjoyed the show. Match length wasn't a huge issue for me this time, but the full show was way too long. By the time the Stampede match started I was already checked out. I knew Omega would win but I still bit on some of those near falls. I really wanted to see Mox/Eddie win the tag titles. The finish seemed really weak, just terrible looking knee strikes in an otherwise great match. Two for two so far on AEW ppvs so I'll probably be down to get the next one if it's on a Sunday night.

That type of thing does not bother me. As long as you are getting the big things right (match endings, quality work in the ring, fans excited about the action), I am not going to worry about the refs being airtight about enforcing the rules to the absolute letter of the law (and thankfully, AEW basically does not do DQ endings).

There's a bit if difference between not calling DQ's because the workers care more for getting their shit in, and a ref staring right at the false hot tag then enforcing the "I didn't see it!" trope.

I did not notice that, and that is fair complaint (though I'd still qualify that as a small, addressable issue that did not take much away from the match).

Or just hire Mike Chioda as the lead referee / trainer.

I am sure Dean has already prepared "This Is Why Southern Booking Is The Best!" monologue for all to hear and then Mark will chime in about Mid-South and Coal Miner's Glove matches.
