Shohei Ohtani hit his 32 HR during today's game against Boston.

That sets the record for most HRs in a single season by a Japanese player.

Old record was 31 by Hideki Matsui in 2004. For context - on July 7th of that year, Matsui hit his 16th HR of the season

Much more context about this

The only other pitcher in history to have their first hit be a Grand Slam occurred in... checks notes... 1898 (He is also the first Padre period to have their 1st hit be a GS. Last MLBer to do it was Brandon Crawford in 2011)

It is only the 4th Grand Slam Max Scherzer has given up in his career (ironically it is the 2nd one this year though)

Camarena is the first RP to hit a Grand Slam HR since Sept 1985

That homer by Camarena is incredible.  95+ fastball, low and in and he belts it 30ft - more - over the wall.  Off Max Scherzer.  Sorry Daniel, your whole career is downhill after that!

Also, San Diego ended up winning the game, 9-8.  Which is why those "don't steal, don't swing 2-0/3-0, etc" unwritten rules are dumb.  Washington was up 8-2 with Max Freaking Scherzer - and lost.

Maybe not troll Altuve all game and be surprised when he hits the walkoff.

Especially when you fucking suck this year.

Philadelphia has placed 4 players including Aaron Nola on their Covid list.

The Phillies have sucked ass, and are loaded with COVID deniers and domestic abusers. They can’t even say it’s to win games!

They have had 3 meltdowns in the last 2 weeks - I could have sworn all three were 5 runs.

It might be that the first one (when Chapman gave up the grand slam) it wasn't a 5 run lead, they just gave up 5 runs in the 9th

The Marlins Pablo Lopez set the modern day record by opening Sunday's game against the Braves by striking out the first 9 batters. (Only one other pitcher has done that ever - Mickey Lopez in 1884)

He is the 11th pitcher to strike out 9 straight in a single game (and the third one to do it this season)
