The crazy thing is how often the closer you are to the ideal the worse you fell about yourself. Far more "beautiful" people get plastic surgery than ugly people. Just last year, my cousin was telling me the worst he's ever felt about himself is when he was trying to be a body builder. He was in better shape than pretty much everyone he knew, but could only see his flaws. I remember we went on a beach trip with some of my friends, I believe he was 19 and I was 20. I was in pretty good shape, but he looked like he was chiseled out of granite. He refused to take off his shirt when we got in the water. I went to college with a woman who went on to become a reporter for Univision and is perhaps the best looking person I've ever met...it turns out she recently got a nose job. This woman needed a nose job like I need a beer gut...the one I have is perfectly fine. Look, she can do whatever she wants, but I guarantee if we took a poll of Earth, nobody but her would have thought there was anything wrong with her nose. It's everyone chasing an impossible standard and there is no reward for getting close. 7

Yeah, my cousin was really open about what he was going through at the time. He's one of the more outwardly confident people you'll ever meet, but he was really struggling with his self-image. If he didn't tell me, I wouldn't have ever guessed, but when looking back I can see signs. You never really know what's going on in someone else's mind. 1

My ass is the only thing responding to growth stimulus at this point (apparently)! I'm up to TWO leg days per week (Trapbar is mostly lower body, too). Not kidding about the body image thing, though! That's for sure! 1

I KNOW comedy. You know how I know I know comedy? I've WATCHED some of it! Better yet, I have heard people talking about it, so that makes me an expert at it. Pro tip: that also works with everything in real life these days, as well! If you have heard people talking about something (or watched a video of someone, anyone doing it) that makes you as much of an expert on the subject as anyone and you can then dismiss other people's opinions if they differ from yours. You can thank me later. 1 2

That is a one to one ratio of video watching and applied expertise. I bet you've watched more than one funny video, you're essentially Eddie Murphy. 1

I honestly can't tell if you're being serious or not, so: I meant no insult; I was just imitating the comedy talents of Henny Youngman, who was referenced in the post right above mine. He was known as the King of the One-Liners back in the '50s and '60s. If you've ever seen the movie Casino, he was in it doing one of his routines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henny_Youngman Granted, it was pretty old of me to even reference him, but I just wanted to see if I could pull off sounding like him. I think I did okay? 1

I think I did okay? It was very accurate of not just him but your average olden age comedy introduction, as well! Good work. Also, Jesus H. Mayweather, of course I'm not being serious. Although I'm sick up to my eyes and balls of people claiming to be experts at anything with very questionable merit and think their uneducated opinion is equal to scientific approach etc, so I had to do a bit on that as well. Furthermore, it was also reference to the notion of "I have watched a lot of wrestling, so my knowledge of it is equal to anyone who has actually wrestled for a living" to piss off people who believe that as well as the "you have never been in the ring so you can't critique anything" crowd at the same time. So it was a veiled Wrestling Hot Take, as well! 2
TheVileOne Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 WWE inducting "moments" or matches right now into the Hall of Fame is stupid and makes no sense. They phased out the specific wings and awards of the Hall of Fame a while ago. If they want to do this, they need to roll out proper rules and categories for the Hall of Fame. Instead it feels like they are flying by the seat of their pants with the Hall of Fame. Doing Bret Hart vs. Austin feels wildly redundant. 1
odessasteps Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 I could maybe understand it more if it was a way to honor guys who are not going in the HOF proper. Like someone getting an exhibit at Cooperstown for an amazing fest but the player doesn’t have a HOF career. I don’t think Bigelow is in the HOF but honoring his match with LT. Just an example. Or some amazing undercard hypothetical tag match on a PPV between the Southern Boys and Orient Express. it would be like honoring Mark Whiten’s 4 HR game. 1

OK, but then are you saying Bam Bam Bigelow isn't worthy of a Hall of Fame career? The Bella Twins and Michelle McCool do, but Bigelow does not? But keeping that in mind, who is worthy of a Hall of Fame moment but doesn't have the career credentials? Maybe you could induct Heath Slater for having kids and saving his career with a contract. Santino Marella maybe. But even then, that sort of feels like a backhanded weak enthusiastic induction.
odessasteps Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 (edited) I was trying to think of someone who wasn’t in their HOF yet. Bigelow might be, but I didn’t double check. Personally, I can’t say if I would vote for Bigelow in Dave’s HOF or not. I may or may not depending on the other people on the ballot. But I would not call him a slam dunk First Ballot HOF. i would have to look at my ballot for last year and ask if I’d vote for him over anyone else I voted in either North American categories. I would have voted for him for someone of the people in the modern section that were his contempoaries like Hall or Nash. Would I vote for him over the Steiners? Probably not. I also voted for Orndorff. I’d vote for him over Bigelow too. Those were only 2 modern candidates I voted for in 2024. Edited April 9, 2025 by odessasteps
TheVileOne Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 Bigelow has been rumored for the WWE Hall of Fame in the past, but he's yet to be inducted. I think he's definitely WWE Hall of Fame worthy. As for Observer Hall of Fame, I guess it depends on the metrics you typically go by. I think he pretty consistently established himself as a credible worker who could work with anyone despite his size. Plus, he had a pretty iconic look and headlined a WrestleMania.
odessasteps Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s wasn’t now a Cliq-shaped roadblock for his wwe HOF induction. His odds would also improve if he were still alive, sadly, if they still use the old quota system or something similar. part of me wonders if Dave would try to make him a Japan candidate, as you could argue he had more success there at the top than in the US (maybe his ECW run).
Ace Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 It's a bullshit Hall of Fame. Drew Carey is in It and Cyndi Lauper isn't. 1 3 1

Most of the big names they want are already in and they'll need "main eventers" for the HOF ceremonies moving forward, so this is how they do it. When there's nobody big left and you're scraping the bottom of the jar for your ceremony with guys like Jim Powers, Ted Arcidi, The Warlord, and Harvey Whippleman, you can induct an iMmOrTaL mOmEnT and get a real name to show up. It's cynical and corny, but cynical and horny, WWE be thy name. 1
supremebve Posted April 9, 2025 Posted April 9, 2025 It is a hall of fame with no criteria, will never have a criteria, and is essentially just Vince or one of his cronies just looking at a list of former wrestlers pointing at the list and saying, him, him, him, dead him, foreign him, and lady him. 1
