twiztor Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 I started a new job in March. It comes with a ~35 minute commute, which is longer than i've had since i was in my early 20s. So i decided to have fun with it, and try to listen to an artist/album that i'm not super familiar with every single day. But to take it one step further, i coordinate the artist i listen to by the date of the month (for example, the first day was March 3rd. the third letter is "C", so i listened to a band that started with C.) Try to expand the ol' horizons and all that. So, since i'm in my 40s, i started a spreadsheet to track what i played. Thought it might be a fun thing to share (spoilered for size). Spoiler It's been a fun exercise. Some letters started getting tougher as the year went on, especially since i don't use a streaming service and am not going out looking for bands with specific letters. 1
odessasteps Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) A last return of “chain restaurant playlist”: for 2025 ive now heard I Want a New Drug, Centerfold and Silent Running by Mike and the Mechanics. I don’t know I’ve heard a Mike and the Mechanics song in the wild for years. Edited December 29, 2025 by odessasteps

Oh man, I haven't thought of MSI since one of the posters here years ago who was WAY overboard with the slavish fandom. To the point everyone started calling them "Mediocre Shitty Idiots" to troll him. Definitely some fun stuff here. Bootsy is definitely worth a deep dive among others. 1
Nice Guy Eddie Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 I liked Mindless Self Indulgence back in the early 2000's. I remember getting a promo copy of Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy at the Princeton Record Exchange. I saw them open for Korn and Staind in 2000. If you're so smart, explain this Clarissa.
Shartnado Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 There's a Finnish New Romantic Pop band that could also be considered Goth and New Wave and all that stuff. The are known as Organ. I just listened to their song "Kärpästen Juhlat" which means "Feast of the Flys" that is one bleak-ass dark song! 1
Shartnado Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 There's an amazing Finnish alternative rock band called Sara, their song "Ainoat Hereillä" which means "The only ones awake". I'm sure it's available on YouTube. I warmly recommend this song and band!
Cobra Commander Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Steve Harrington from Stranger Things (Joe Keery) also makes music under the name Djo
Cobra Commander Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) not sure what I expected less between "Morrissey and Johnny Carson being in the same building" or "Morrissey and Bill Cosby being in the same building" Edit: okay, KROQ's HD2 just played "Sing Your Life" minutes after I watched this video. So, the toaster is spying on me Edited January 10 by Cobra Commander 2
twiztor Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) i don't know if this is more for the movie or music folder, but the path ultimately led to music, so here it is. I watched Return of the Living Dead 2 and 3 for the first time last night. I've previously seen the first one and enjoyed it enough, but i tend to prefer Romero's zombie movies. So #2 was fine but ultimately pretty dumb. #3 was probably a worse movie, but i enjoyed it WAY more. ANYWAY, i'm checking out the soundtrack to #2 to add a couple of the songs to my halloween horror playlist. And one of the bands is named Zodiac Mindwarp. Now, i figure that's some bullshit group made up for the album, but no! it's a real, yet still somewhat dubious rock band. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac_Mindwarp_and_the_Love_Reaction) So i had to read more, and now here i am rocking out to all 50+ Zodiac Mindwarp songs that i downloaded and loving it. Cobra Commander Posted January 27 Posted January 27 in the process of looking at the hard drive of a deceased laptop for MP3s I haven't moved off there, I noticed all the folders with some version of 'Blalock's Indie/Rock Playlist' and a song or two from like 2010. Search around and that site's still going (with the name BIRP). So that's neat even if the ecosystem for rock and rock-ish songs had changed a little in 15 years. The KEXP Free Song of the Day only made it to 2024 before tapping out.
