Cobra Commander Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 word is that Vince Neil wasn't on the plane but I've also read that Vince Neil's plane ran into Vince Vaughn's plane in a case of Vince-on-Vince violence... no word on where Vince McMahon was
odessasteps Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 The other plane allegedly belongs to Vince Vaughn.
Zimbra Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Fountains of Wayne announced a couple of shows this year with Dan Collins from Eve 6 replacing Adam Schlesinger.
Dolfan in NYC Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in a courtroom today relating to the shooting of a former associate/friend in 2021

odessasteps Posted March 1, 2025 Posted March 1, 2025 On one of the Philly 80s/90s stations, just heard Tubthumping followed by Axel F. 2
Cobra Commander Posted March 2, 2025 Posted March 2, 2025 Listening to “Buster’s Spanish Rocketship” on the evil entity that is Spotify and yeah, I can understand why “Buster Poindexter salsa album” wasn’t necessarily a success in 1997, or maybe at any time, but the songs are fun. 1

Curt McGirt Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 I open this thread and there's that plane crash news at the top, and at the bottom there's "Free Bird". Go figure.
odessasteps Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 Would this be like Taylor Swift making a song in 2025 about Kathleen Turner?

I distinctly remember having an argument with my mom's best friend about not knowing who the hell Bette Davis was when she mentioned somebody had Bette Davis eyes. This is probably in the mid-90s, and she was like, "how do you not know who Bette Davis is? Haven't you ever heard the song?" I was like, "yeah, I've heard the song, but I have no idea who she is."
odessasteps Posted March 17, 2025 Posted March 17, 2025 I don’t know if I ever knew before last night that Petula Clark recorded Downtown in English, French, German and Italian. No wonder it sound so well.
odessasteps Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 Just heard Here Comes the Hotstepper on the Philly classic rock station. #PublicEnemy 2
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 10, 2025 Posted April 10, 2025 There's no other place to really put this, so here we go. In an absolutely insane story.... The wife of Weezer's bassist Scott Shriner, author Jillian Lauren was shot by LAPD. The LAPD was looking for three suspects who fled on foot following a hit and run. One of the suspects got on her street and tried to enter their property via the backyard. She shot her gun at the Hit & Run suspect to get them to leave... LAPD apparently didn't like that and (ACCORDING TO THEM) 'repeatedly' told her to discard her weapon. She then (ACCORDING TO THEM) pointed the gun at an officer, who shot her in the shoulder. She's being held on $1 million bail and is being charged with attempted murder. The H&R suspect was arrested after stripping down to his boxers and being found watering plants in a backyard several houses down, in an apparent attempt to blend in to the neighborhood. --- Weezer, for their part, was added last minute to Coachella and are scheduled to play there this weekend. No word on whether or not they'll still be playing.

No word on whether or not they'll still be playing. I've never read any of Jullian Lauren's books, but based on this story, I expect non-stop twists and turns. I saw this in a tweet earlier today and had to find a whole article because I couldn't believe the details.
twiztor Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 FYI tomorrow is Record Store Day. Hit up your local spot! I'm not really one for new/current releases, but it gives me a reason to dig through the bays and flesh out some of my collection. Good deals on LPs, CDs, and whatever else your favorite shops offer!
Curt McGirt Posted April 14, 2025 Posted April 14, 2025 Fun fact: the main dude in Weezer used to be a poser metalhead back in high school, trying to hang with the Deceased guys. They said he totally did not fit in and ended up quitting. King Fowley has some funny stories about him. (Those are probably affected by all the PCP they used to do, but...)

Everything about Weezer makes more sense when put in a frame of a band who tried to be one thing, but didn't quite fit so they decided to do something else.
Travis Sheldon Posted April 14, 2025 Posted April 14, 2025 If only they'd tried harder to fit in with the crowd.
The Comedian Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 Hey, speaking of Weezer, here's a thought: is "Buddy Holly" the all-time king of bad song/good video? Obviously, the "Happy Days"-themed video is cool as hell. Hell, doing the Fonzie dance at the end of the video became a meme amongst my friends for a bit. It's so good it tricks you into thinking the song ain't half bad. And then years later, I'm putting together my 90's rock playlist on Spotify and of course "Buddy Holly" goes on there. However, whenever it actually comes up I find that it's an instant skip. Why? It's a garbage song. I mean, right off the bat it hits you with "white bread guy ironically uses Hip-Hop slang", which was always shite. The rest of it is standard "Hey girl please be a dork from the wrong era with me", only without one iota of the charm of, say, "Teenage Dirtbag". But man that video hit enough nostalgia bits to fool me for a couple decades...
