TLDR: He gave every single employee $2,000... for EACH YEAR they'd been employed with the team. The longest tenured staffer got $70,000. Capital-A Amazing.

The Yankees have made a groundbreaking hire in their minor league ranks, as The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler (Twitter link) reports that Rachel Balkovec will manage the organization’s lower-A team in Tampa next season.  Balkovec will become the first woman to ever manage an affiliated minor league club.

This is the one funny joke I've seen about her hiring. It is dying a slow death from loneliness.

It's a semi-funny joke that ignores the reality that a lot of women have significant facial hair.

The Atlantic League will no longer be testing robo-umps or the extended pitcher's mound

Apparently they aren't gonna do robo-umps anymore because it is expected that MLB will expand testing it in lower levels of the minors so there is no reason for the Atlantic League to do so.

They will continue to keep using the bigger base (17 inches as opposed to the standard 15 inches), anti-shift rules and even more extreme rules to speed up extra innings (runners start at 1st and 2nd in the 10th, all other extra innings would start with bases loaded)

So much for lower levels - MLB will be using it in AAA this upcoming season

Not every park will use them.

MLB announced today that the AAA season will be expanded to 150 games

The 2022 season will run April 5 to Sept 28

Apparently the big reason is that MLB clubs wanted a place they could send players to rehab during September.

Did they change the rules surrounding the final lock on the roster?   I seem to remember it being if you weren't on the roster on 9/1, you weren't eligible for the playoffs.
