The early APA bar is in the Aug build, but some of moves and taunts that work in the July build are broken in the Aug build for some reason.

Yeah those technicians have the worst requirements IMO. Also I realized from looking at the sliders there's a mechanic that makes our opponent weaker to submissions after finishers with 3 being the max so when I'm in a submission match with someone that doesn't have a submissions finisher I try to hit at least 2 before using a submission hold.

The thing is, it's not "technicians," it's just Tyler. I got both of Natty's upgrades in a week! 

 

Oh, and I messed up the list of new factions; Odd Squad has a red Ivy Nile, not a second purple Bayley.

I made the mistake of going down a MyFaction rabbit hole this weekend, and I worked through some of the early Proving Grounds stages and started to catch up on the Weekly Tower stuff. I have still yet to complete a Faction Wars run, so I might try to do that this week before getting consumed with EA College Football.

I tried the Blair Davenport live event and had zero luck with that. It's something that would probably take repeated rage inducing luck. I also tried the Manifestation event, and good God!

The ladies Enigma took me two tries because the men’s one misleads you on the ratings. I kept knocking Zoey off the apron to get Shayna defeated.  Nash birthday fell apart on me. I’ll make another attempt tomorrow.

The last of the Season 4 Fight Forever DLC came out today. I haven't seen much Jay White but I tried a few matches out and he seems pretty solid.  The tournament mode can have either 4 or 8 participants.  There is also a tag team option with 4 or 8 teams which I was pleasantly surprised to see.  For the singles tournament you can select different match types too but I haven't seen an option to have a tournament for a title.  Once I play around a bit more I'll let y'all know if I find any other fun stuff in there.

In MyFaction news, the Superstars Series II cards are now out which includes the Manbun and tracksuit Roman. There's a large reduction in price on the VC side for these cards now compared to the original set.

For example, a gold 66 rating AJ Styles card from the original set of cards is 13,500 VC while the Gold Nikkita Lyons card with same rating is 4,050 VC. Of course the MyFaction points (that you earn from matches) is still the same cost. Bigger impact is with the higher end cards, Amethyst cards are 27,000 VC including the Roman I had some VC from an issue with earlier rewards that the 2K service team added to my account so I got the Roman card and a few others to round out my ladies roster. Also got one of the Heat 2 packs and rolled an Amethyst Roxanne Perez. 

I wonder how that guy who spent like $300 on VC to get packs to get the cards needed to get the Manbun Roman a month and a half ago feels.

I envy you for getting that Roxy, the fact that I don't have a decent version of my current #1 is intensely annoying. I threw in the ten bucks for that Roman Persona card too, hoping it sends the signal that they'll do more personae that aren't crazy expensive. 

I finished all 150 missions from the original Proving Grounds set (have perfect cleared the first 2 blocks, hovering around 65-70 points for the other 3) and have moved into the post launch content, which so far is much less stressful than what came just before. I also finally got Tyler to Ruby (thanks for the tip on subs getting easier after 3 finishers, I ended up doing that first Last Man Standing match and just kept it going long enough to get 10 subs before I let the mime lie.)

I've not put an insane amount of time into it until the last couple of weeks, and it'll be probably my "I need a breather for EA College football" game for a bit, but I really hate the pack logic and the token market this year. I'm debating if opening packs is even worth it or if just getting enough MFP and buying from the market specific cards is just the better route. The live events being tied to pack luck also is just dumbly frustrating for me.

Yeah, a mode I genuinely loved and felt like I could get good fun out of without whaling in 22-23 feels much more money-hungry this year and I hate that I keep grinding. The decision to not guarantee a card from the booster set in each pack is just absolute bullshit.

2k are not doing any Twitter hype for the McAfee DLC, probably because they know it was a huge fuck up to give us these clowns instead of more NXT and legends. I don't mind Pat since he's part of Raw and trained. I don't love Post Malone but I've come to accept that whichever musician puts together the soundtrack gets to be playable.

He's plenty of fun to play; I got more use out of MGK in 22 and Bad Bunny in 23, but he's not bad at all (and part of why i played the others more is unrelated to the acfual character, but rather differences in Faction mode from year to year.) And, like I said, he's traditional so it doesn't chap my hide particularly in the same way that McAfee's 4-man entourage does. I genuinely believe that there is not a single person in America who would rather play as Boston Connor or Ty Schmidt than Kelani Jordan or Charlie Dempsey, save a close personal friend/family member/the men themselves. And with the DLC being more spaced out this year, we are not getting any new people who have worked a match other than McAfee himself for 3 solid months. Meanwhile, the pack with all the new and returning people (Dragon Lee, Lyra Valkyria, Jade Cargill, Kairi Sane, Carlito, Nia Jax) isn't put til September.

 

I REALLY hope they don't do something like this next year.

I assume it is a way to try and appeal to a different audience which... well I doubt it'll work but I also think the amount of people on the fence about picking up the game based on the presence of Charlie Dempsey is also rather miniscule so it is what it is.

The best defense I heard re: this DLC was someone saying that if they had a chance to be in a WWE game they'd also see if they could get their buds in as well, so tip of the hat to Pat for being a solid friend?

That's likely the issue I'm having--i wasn't thinking of it in terms of new players but as someone who buys the game every year regardless (the only question being "do i have some gift cards or points that will let me get it at launch or am I waiting for summer discounts?") and thus not really seeing any one character as a reason to buy, but one choice among hundreds. So "rather play as Dempsey" was meant more as "if you've already bought the game and the DLC before the McAfee gang were announced" frustration.

People who have played sports games know that some video game athletes are on another level: Bo Jackson or QB Eagles in Tecmo Super Bowl, Michael Vick in Madden 05, Steph Curry in NBA 2K14, etc. 

What is the wrestling game equivalent? My answer is Goldberg in WCW/nWo Revenge. He's the only guy who got that faux-MMA combo move, and it just KILLS opponents. He is a fucking BEAST in that game and so hard to reverse or block because of all the options he has out of the standing combos. He also has submissions that are good at positioning the opponent so they can't get to the ropes, especially that rear naked choke in his moveset.

Semi-related, I had a friend with a modded Saturn and we played the fuck out of Six Man Scramble.  Flair's critical was set by default to technician/scientific wrestler/whatever, which led to me critical'ing a guy with a small package.  I lol'd

But yeah, Vader was a force of nature in that game.  Nothing like critical-ing someone with repeated boxing forearms.

Beating someone with a critical roll-up was the ultimate 'fuck you' in Fire Pro.

Another one: Bradshaw in No Mercy was a goddamned beast.  He had that big hammer blow that would almost always stagger and knock someone back, and his front finisher was quick enough that you could hit it at least twice on a single special.

This week's Tower in 2k ends with what i think must be the stupidest possible match the game will allow you to book: a 5-minute Iron Man match with count outs and DQs as the only way to earn a point. It was almost trivially easy, but I got a good laugh out of it.

Stan Hansen, too. You can hit his running Western Lariat early in the match and it's basically all over after that.
