Carlos Delgado was "second" with 9 votes

Dale Murphy and Don Mattingly got 6 votes. All 3 get to be on the ballot again

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Gary Sheffield and Fernando Valenzuela got fewer than 5

Quote

Because they received less than five votes on this year’s ballot, Bonds, Clemens, Sheffield, and Valenzuela must be omitted from the next voting cycle, and can’t return to the Contemporary Players ballot until at least 2031.  If any of these four players then don’t receive at least five votes in 2031 or on any future ballot, they are no longer eligible for inclusion on any Contemporary Players ballot.

Ironic with all the talk about the importance of good character that they had a chance to induct someone in Dale Murphy who was as high character as it gets (and who absolutely belongs in for his play on the field) and they passed.

and the one inductee via the Veterans Committee is Jeff Kent

If you had to choose between Barry Bonds or Jeff Kent to do anything baseball related, is there a single skill you'd choose Kent over Bonds?  I mean, one's an outfielder and the other is an infielder, but Bonds was a far better defender than Kent.

Bonds throws lefty so he's not allowed to play second base, so..

Yeah, I love Murph as much as anybody but he doesn't belong. He just wasn't good enough in the years outside of his peak. But that peak was very good, to be sure.

I'm a little bit glad to see Utley where he is. I'm not sure he's a HOFer, but his injury history is 100% why I feel that way. When he was on, he was fucking great.

Sad that so many people only think of how he was on the wrong end of arguably the greatest most unhittable pitch in baseball history. Heard that the Mets plan on retiring his number either this season or next.

Thank God this year is over

If anyone wants a prime A example of why I hate baseball writers - see the way many of them acted this voting cycle

Andy Pettite - who admitted using steroids and whose best year came when he was an Astro with roid user Clemens - getting more votes than ARod and Manny makes no sense.

I mean, there's a theory that would involve making accusations towards some voters but..

A-Rod and Manny were bad character guys who were hard to deal with/pains in the ass while Pettite was not.

So long as you're not married to him, that is.

Lucky for him she doesn't have a HOF vote.

Andre Dawson is getting his HOF plaque changed from wearing the Expos hat to a blank hat, which was not an option when he was elected.

Cooperstown is gonna be pissed when no one gets elected in 2027.

None of the new crop, no, but it's Chase Utley's year to shine for sure.

Buster Posey is getting in first ballot

Whether he should or not is a different story conversation but the moment Joe Mauer got in his first year it was a lock Posey was getting in first ballot

Hah - I stared right at that graphic and never even saw Posey at all. Yes, he absolutely goes in.
