And people complain about no "hot moves" in Olympic wrestling.  Get ready to see this tried at your local indie show

I came home from the gym this morning and was delighted to see his match against Yabiku live.  That ended up being one Yabiku won who also did a pretty sweet powerslam on Garaei.  There were some pretty fun matches that happened after that to boot so it was a solid hour of Olympic wrestling.

Nineteen-year-old Keely Hodgkinson won a sensational 800m silver medal at the Olympic Games in a new British record of one minute 55.88 seconds as US teenager Athing Mu took gold.

Hodgkinson looked shocked by her achievement, saying "that is mental" in response to being told she was an Olympic silver medallist.

Great Britain came close to bronze too, but Jemma Reekie was edged out by American Raevyn Rogers by 0.09s.

Mu, also 19, finished in 1:55.21.

She became the first American to win the women's 800m since Madeline Manning in 1968, breaking the US record in the process.

"I am pretty speechless right now," Britain's Hodgkinson said after breaking a national record set by Kelly Holmes in 1995 and winning Team GB's first track medal of Tokyo 2020.

"Kelly Holmes is a legend and I looked up to her. I have been speaking to her for the past couple of days and she is a lovely person."

Congratulations! Great reaction as well, WTF?

Have there been any updates on the American BMX rider that completely wiped out the other day? Dude was bent up like Tom Segura on the ground and the whole thing looked nasty. I tried searching to see if he's ok, but the last thing I saw was that he was moved to a different hospital because he had a brain hemorrhage.

I was pretty sure Warholm would win it, but wasn't sure about WR. NEVER would have thought beneath 46 would be a thing. The times are just insane.

One of the most amazing things I've seen watching sport.

Apparently rock climbing is an Olympic sport as well.  Although it is called "Sports climbing"

What I don't like is that instead of having separate contests for all three pretty different disciplines (speed, bouldering and lead) that are all quite different regarding necessary skills, only the combined event is done (somewhat like only doing decathlon/heptathlon instead of 100 m/200 m, long jump, javelin ...). At least in Paris in 3 years, they will split it into a separate event for speed and a combined event for bouldering and lead.

Sky Brown won bronze in the women's park skateboarding final at the Tokyo Games as the 13-year-old became Great Britain's youngest Olympic medallist of all time.

Aged 13 years and 28 days, Brown finished second in qualifying and took bronze after scoring 56.47 in her final run, having fallen in her first two attempts.

Brown has broken Margery Hinton's 93-year-old record to become the youngest athlete to represent Team GB at a summer Games.

Congratulations, Sky!

Japan managed to make it past 20 gold medals thanks to Daiki Hashimoto winning a second gold medal in the horizontal bar, Sena Irie winning a boxing gold medal (go girl!), Sakura Yosozumi winning a women's skateboarding gold medal, and tonight Yukako Kawai winning a wrestling freestyle gold medal. The Kawai story is sweet since her older sister won gold in the same weight class in Rio and moved down a weight class to give her sister a chance of competing at the games.

New Zealand is also cranking it with 6 gold medals.

Respect to Katarina Johnson Thompson crossing on her own power despite injury. Reminds me of Derek Redmond with his Dad at Barcelona 1992:

That always gets me going including now.

The hosts will definitely surpass their record of 41 medals at Rio because they will be in the gold medal round for both baseball and the women's team table tennis event. Sport Climbing was interesting. SASUKE (i.e. original flavor Ninja Warrior) competitors on twitter compared watching the almost six hour event to being at a SASUKE taping. And even watching the lead part was like watching SASUKE third stage runs minus the water when people fall. Japan is still in medal contention for both the men's and women's events there.

All of the medalists in the women's skateboarding events are under 20 years old so we may be seeing the same faces in Paris..unless today's 3rd graders decide the step up their game.

I am not sure how I feel about kids in their early teens fighting for medals. There is a reason why an age limit of 14 was introduced for diving (and even that is on the low side to me). On the one hand, you are talking about not yet fully developed bodies, on the other hand about (potential) exploitation of kids.

You just sold me on watching the whole six hour replay.  Thankfully it's on the NBC Sports app so I'll start it up tomorrow.

And also since I barely pay attention to non-US results thanks to y'all for the updates throughout this thread.  Pretty nice to find out these things especially considering there's so damn much going on.

To be fair, I and those competitors are deep SASUKE nerds so not everyone will enjoy it quite as much. But during lead, any partisan country cheering kind of went out the window for me because it felt more like everyone trying to conquer the wall rather than beat each other.

The decathlon probably will be an easy win for Canadian Damian Warner as French world record holder Kevin Mayer does not seem to be in top condition in the track events. Warner opened with a 10.12 s over the 100 m, tying the "decathlon record" (best mark in a decathlon) already held by him and followed it with a 8.24 m long jump (only 4 cm behind (again) his decathlon record) - a mark that would have been good enough for the bronze medal in the long jump event of the specialists. There is a tiny chance that Warner might break the world record today (9126 point), but I guess a mark somewhere in the 8950 to 9050 range is more realistic (still one of the top 10 results of all time).

I'm watching the Bob Costas HBO Show and he's interviewing Aly Raisman, and she's talking about how USA Gymnastics and the USOC are still trying to protect the people who enabled Larry Nassar.  So I'm with you.  We don't need kids around this bullshit.  Seriously, this entire thing is fucking evil.  I like sports as much as anyone, but the culture around sports is really indefensible.

I learned today there is an upper age limit of 40 in Olympic boxing.

As someone who has been 40 for about a month, I can't think of anything less appealing to me right now than boxing for free.
