RIPPA

jodorowsky-tripytch

For our British friends: Alejandro Jodorowsky's mindblowing classics El Topo, The Holy Mountain, and Fando y Lis have all had 4K restorations and are screening... no that's not the right word... appearing... still no... ah! MATERIALIZING in theaters in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, Galway, Leicester, Worthing and Cardiff between January and February. Having seen the first two in the theater (RIP the Art) I advise you to forsake a limb if you have to in order to go see them. BluRay soon to follow so grab those too.

Started the year off with a showing of Cats. I regret nothing. Honestly, the weirdest thing for me were the pants and suspenders worn by the train conductor cat.

Definitely the horniest G rated movie I've ever seen, but also very boring. I did cry during Memory though, that song doesn't fuck around.

I don't think I have ever thought about a movie as much as I have seen Cats. The train conductor cat to me was maybe the 13th weirdest thing in the movie to me but yes it was so incredibly weird. And the pure boredom of Cats -- like, there is seriously no plot or action or anything interesting -- was also somehow insanely fascinating?

I regret nothing, either.

Man, I might have to go and see Holy Mountain at Home later this month.

Watched Cold Pursuit, a Liam Neeson revenge flick. Well, that’s what we thought it would be. It was that, but also something far weirder. Just a strange movie. Pretty funny too.

Native American gangsters go to hotel, and the lady tells them they need a reservation and they all get offended. “Do you know what I can do to you .... on Yelp?”

I liked it. But yeah, pretty weird.

BTW, Tammy and the T-Rex is on Showtime again and it is the R version. Gory as fuck!

And guess what? The rating listed has gone from PG-13 to NC-17. Yet the PG-13 I recorded earlier is definitely NC-17. Heads sawed open and brains exposed, heads smashed and destroyed and ripped off, people crushed under cars, a guy flattened and rolled up like a beach towel. This is pure Troma.

Saw that in the theater and thought it was the best comedy of the year.

I was watching Demolition Man again at work.  Damn it's still a lot of fun!  When Simon is at the museum breaking shit and the siren keeps going off for foul language and then he asks the guard "how much do you weigh?"  lol.

Sandra Bullock character with the "lick your asses"

Edit:  I never realized the ending is quite like the ending to Terminator 2

The highlight for me still is Stallone referring to sex as "the hunka chunka"

The best line in that scene is WHERE'S RADIO SHACK~?

Also the brief "Oh boy, that voice sounds familiar! Who is that?" before Simon immediately opens fire on John.

That museum scene from Demolition Man (1993) is one of my favourites. My favourite:

Wesley Snipes is so entertaining in Demolition Man. I bought Demolition Man a few weeks ago from work. I've also bought The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and Pulp Fiction (1994) from there.

Yeah, Uncut Gems was great. I don't think I need to see it a second time, at least so soon (sensory overload is right) but it was good. Down and dirty, even Eric Bogosian and Judd Hirsch looked beat up in this one. Says a lot about addiction from different points of view. Maybe it's my pitch-black sense of humor but I thought it was a lot funnier than anyone is saying; in a lot of ways it's a long Curb episode.

One more thing I just thought about: Did anyone catch the moment where Sandler went full Happy Gilmore in his voice when he yelled at someone? That was a really good call-back. He just slid it in like it was nothing and went back to his character. Guy's a pro.

Yeah Uncut Gems is so insane its amazing. I've got a friend who is a pro poker player who was incredibly disturbed during the movie because he knows that guy and has played against him all the time.

The Sadie's are so great at tension and showing how insane life can go...

I fucking gasped at what Sandler did immediately after KG left his office.

Also Garnett was great! Wow.

I've been thinking about it non-stop for a few days now. Damn.

That was one of several moments where I just buried my head in my hands in embarrassment and disgust.

Spoiler

The bit at the school play, how do you live that down? And your kid finding out about your mistress? You know that kid's gonna end up a gambler just like his pop too from the way he was acting about the games.

Probably the best twist aside from the ending (which really wan't a twist, it ended up exactly like it would in real life if you think about it) was the camera panning over to reveal Bogosian was his in-law at the dinner.

Oh and BTW, that Vegas pilot is a real person and was playing himself.

Overly tanned "cartoon" guy? He wasn't the pilot, just a VIP going to the casino. And yeah, hard to believe that is a real person.

I love Demolition Man.  I was watching a rip of it I have on an old hard drive and realized all the "Taco Bell" mentions were overdubbed with "Pizza Hut," so I realized I must have torrented the international version back in my less respectable days.

Our Robocop Remake

So, a bunch -- and I mean A BUNCH -- of people got together and did a shot-for-shot remake of Robocop with their own comic twists on the material. This is hilarious.

Note: this is completely so NSFW it isn't funny. Enjoy the exploding dicks scene.

Some sad news here at our cinemas of misfit films … one of the theaters is closed indefinitely for renovations. So with only two movie houses instead of three, does that mean the end of getting films that, well, get a cinema release here solely to fulfill a contractual agreement?

Nope.

REALITY QUEEN

There's no middle ground with mockumentaries. They're either laugh out loud funny or a steaming pile. When Denise Richards and Mike Tyson top the trailer, chances are it's the latter by a mile.

Aw c'mon, Denise Richards was in Drop Dead Gorgeous. Sure it was...jesus 20 years ago, but at least proves she's been in one good one.

Also, please never stop letting us know what is playing in your funky ass theatres.

She was in Wild Things as well, so that's two good ones.
